    It would be awesome if you had the system that allows us to see the keys being played highlighted at the bottom or top of the screen. Think that would greatly help us see and catch some of what you're doing and increase you subscriber count. Awesome stuff love it, if you add this in future it would be great if you came back and add that feature to these vids. Luv from a new subscriber

    idk if you play guitar, but it's a lot easier to see this concept on it bc you don't need to change your fingering every time you change chords. you can keep the same hand structure and slide up and down on guitar. i think this concept is harder to grasp on piano for sure cause u have to change all the time even tho ur playing same maj9 chord or min11 etc....

    1:08 - so Glasper does a 2 4 1 instead then? That’s probably the best way to see it...

    • @luisandrestafur3292
      @luisandrestafur3292 3 года назад

      its not really a 4, its just a non functional chord that is creating tension to go towards the 1. It really works because he is using the same quality of chord and voicing. The proper name for this specific movement its a constant structure part of 4 chords simetrically connected by minor thirds: Fm Abm Bm Dm. Its a non functional chord that replaces in this case the V. Its not a 4, neither a minor4.

    • @comet1618
      @comet1618 3 года назад

      He just uses his ears and heads outside the key whenever he feels like it. You can break everything down in theory but intuition is what brings that sound over time, God bless👊

    Hey, What is the thought process behind the first substitution? Ab-9 for the Bb7.

    • @JCleggy
      @JCleggy 3 года назад

      Just cause nobody answered, I’ll give it a shot. I think it’s modal interchange borrowing Ab-9. The 4 chord in Eb wouldn’t normally be minor. The creator picks the Ab-9 because it shares some common notes with Bb7, most importantly the Bb, which is the note we want to target to fulfill the V of our ii V I
      Someone correct me if I got it wrong.

    • @L3ver
      @L3ver 2 года назад

      If you want to analyse it as a V chord it’s a rootless Vsus7b9 chord. Or basically just swapping a 5-1 perfect cadence for a minor plagal cadence which is another time tested effective way to reach the tonic.

    • @NoahKellman

      Enrico-Jazz Pianist Hey Enrico- no specific reason. I just happened to create the progressions that way in this case as an example. You could start with just one tonality, like major or minor, and see how that sounds. Then, expand and include other types of chords. Make sense?

    the way you are playing those chords sound very Glaspery. sounds like u are hitting these passing / grace notes. just the timing of the voicing on the attack is very him, I wish you could get into what that is exactly. I think its as much of his sound as the chords. Nice video tho. thank you.
