    I own 120 and will never exchange it for anything. It was purchase by accident. I was dreaming about Mesa as almost anyone in that days, found it on auction new for almost half of the price, tried one chord, payed instantly and run away before owner changed his mind ;) It's brutal indeed, but also extremely versatile, with very good clean channel. One of most underrated amps on market, if only Engl had marketing as strong as other brands...

    Savage is the best amp ive tried. Only in a store though, but there and then it was like - there it is, now it sounds like on the records. The other two that gave similar sensations were dual rectifier and peavey jsx. This is with active emgs - when i tried a LP with passives the magic immediately went away, i think that would have been remedied with a boost pedal though.

    I can’t trust someone that only gives positive feedback on everything. That’s just sales then. Plus I don’t trust a company that can’t deal with criticism. Not everything is going to be a hit with everyone. Never stop with the honest criticism Ola.

    • @Zwidawurzn
      @Zwidawurzn 4 года назад +1

      He got it donated^^
      I also have a Savage60 like this for a long time (i paid for it) and sound-wise there's nothing to complain. The amp has a few oddities like the Gain-Knob works for both channels while the Lead-Knob adds extra Gain only to the lead channel. It's still possible to have clean rythm and brutal lead sound but for metal i use only lead channel anyways.
      Another problem can be tube sockets, stock sockets are plastic and when they become too old like on my 1994 model it's expensive repair to swap them for ceramic sockets. But still, great sounding amp and certainly loud enough.

    Actually the Savage 60 has EL34 :) I have it and the Fireball 60 first version, but I seem to prefer the Fireball when playing at higher volumes. The EL34 get quite muddy, dark and muffled, while the 6L6 retains clarity and just works well.

    I have one like this and I LOVE this little beast! I have installed a set of KT77 in mine. btw, the midrange supressor for me is the most important knob in this amp. maxed all it almost sounds like a marshall, and set to zero cuts a lot of mids and high mids. it's a great tool to shape your tone and to compensate different cabs

    Had one myself (the earlier model without a standby switch). Fantastic amp. Pretty sure it uses EL34 out of the box, though.
    Sold mine, too, and got the somewhat related Engl E860 Rackhead instead (in that case the second version with the reverb), because I was and am a massive Necrophagist fanboy. When I heard that Engl was bringing back the Savage 60 I was excited because I liked the kinda stripped down approach of the 60 compared to the 120, or worse, the 120 Special Edition and SE. Sadly, they just gave it a smaller power amp. Here's to hoping they'll never discontinue the Ritchie Blackmore...
