We carried FEHB into retirement. Ours actually went down in 2025. A Medicare Drug plan can't touch what we pay for drugs with FEHB. A Medicare Supplement and Drug plan would cost more than 2X what we're paying for FEHB, and all our drugs are covered.
My only issue with it is that it has gotten really expensive. The basic Blue Cross Blue Shield is over 7k a year now! I say drop it and apply for ACA. As long as your income is less that 76k a year you qualify for some subsidy. I don’t see the difference. If your pension is 36k and you pull from Roth TSP you would qualify for the full subsidy. That seems like a better deal to me and ACA has Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans.
You are right up to the point where you turn 65 and need to go on medicare. At that point, you'd generally have much better coverage using FEHB as a supplement to Medicare A and B as opposed to having to go out and purchase Medicare D and G.
Dallen. On the 5 year rule....can you move from one insurance company to another? Example....can you leave Blue Cross and go to Geha within the last 5 years before retirement and/or change after retirement during open season. Some think whatever company you are with the last five years is what you will have the rest of your life.
My spouse is retired military so I’ve used tricare over the years. I’m 3.5 years away from retirement eligible, does the 5 yr rule apply in my situation?
The premiums for self plus one (wife) are $10k a year. And the cost share and co payments have gone up and up. I hope between Tricare and VA from 60-65.
@ blue cross blue shield standard Its me and wife on it the plan # is 106, premium is $384.14 per pay period. Multiply this amount by 26 pay periods and total is $9987 per year.
@@CarlosRodriguez-ox3bg I have FEHB BCBS Basic but my wife has her own HSA plan through her company. Still pay under 200... I want to say around 180-ish a month (have to look to be sure the exact amount) but that will increase in January 2025 🤣

I'm here mainly for the insurance and the pension.
Nothing wrong with that

Merry Christmas Dallen! Great video as usual on point. Employees need to read the retirement plans from OPM etc….

But after everything is said and done, is ACA cheaper than FEHB? FEHB is also subsidized 75 percent of premiums...

Under Postponed retirement does my sick leave get added on at 60? Or do I lose it?
i use the VA
Merry Christmas! My question is, do we have to pay Medicare too and if so then how much they take out from social security
The more you make the higher you will pay so it depends on your retirement income. My mother pays $154 a month
@CarlosRodriguez-ox3bg wow that will be a lot. Because earning is going to be 170k by the time of retirement in 4 yrs
@CarlosRodriguez-ox3bg if your mom a federal retiree. ?
FEHB and VA Community care... The best of both worlds 😅

Which FEHB is almost $10k a year? Most are NOT that I know of.
