Thank you Miss Britt for doing this video. I'm from Charleston SC and nobody has a barber practical for my state so I watched yours over and over for the past few days. I just want to say thank you if not for your video I would have not known what to be prepared for. I passed my Barber Pratical just 30 mins ago, with lots of help from your video, Thank you again for taking your time to help ppl. God Bless
ha, I'm from the charleston area as well and there aren't any locations that have a consistent curriculum specific for this in preparation. Once I get my Master Hair Care License, I intend to change that.
Passed my stateboard thanks to you in 2021! big ups. I am now a barber instructor as of february 2024 and I will use this for preparing my freshmen even though the practical is no longer required at stateboard. You are appreciated.
Hi Ms. Britt, I just finished watching your State Board Tutorial and I must say that it was EXCELLENT! I didn't realize it was over 3.5 hours long when I started it but you made the time fly by. I really enjoyed how you explained everything in detail so that viewers can get a clear understanding of what's expected of them when they go before the board. I'm in cosmo so our test is slightly different but everything else is the same. I'm also in Calif and I took my exam Dec 2 but I failed the practical portion because I wasn't prepared for it. I went on leave of absence last March during the first shut down and I had pre-applied for the test like 2-3 weeks before the shut down happened. Long story short after being away from school for 6 months I was forced back and within 1-week I get a letter from state board with a testing date that was less than 4-weeks away! I literally reached my 1600 hours about 4 days before my exam date. Here's some tips I like to offer other cosmo and barber students who are going to take the exam: DO NOT BRING A DOLL HEAD YOU HAVEN'T WORKED ON BEFORE. This is why I failed. I had ordered more heads on Amazon, but like a dummy I didn't press "submit order" so they sat in my cart. When I didn't get them by the Friday before my test I went on Amazon and discovered my mistake. I had one doll head that was not used, ironically it was the male doll head that I wanted to keep as is, which I got when I took a specialty hair cutting class at school. I didn't bother to test it out before hand and when I got there the first test was the Thermal curling. I did some mock state board classes about 3- 4 times before, so I knew some of the procedures and what to do, and I should've used that doll head because it curled and stayed in formation, on base, but I had cut it several times practicing the razor and shear cut and was afraid it was too short, which wouldn't have been an issue if I had gotten my new doll heads. Anyway, the way that the hair was rooted and the texture of it on the man doll, it was like fine silk that would do nothing; the curl would not hold and would fall immediately into his face. Oh it worked me the entire time! And I kept trying to get that first curl to stay but to no dice. And you know at that point I was panicking! That brings me to my next tip: DO NOT GET STUCK ON STEP ONE AND USE UP YOUR TIME. I was constantly getting stuck on the first procedure, which of course ate up my time, so many of the services I couldn't finish. They really take away chunks of points when you don't finish, which is why I failed. If you encounter the first part not going smoothly, unless the next part is dependent on the first part being correct (like creating a traveling guide for example, or sectioning for the chemical wave), move on and finish the steps and come back to the first part to fix it if time allows. You'll lose more points from not finishing than if you had one part of the service that wasn't successful. I'll be ready for round 2. I have already submitted my reapplication, and for those in CA who were wondering what happens if you fail part or all of the exam, you have to reapply within one year of the testing date and pay $75 (I don't know if you have to pay more if you fail both parts?). Thanks Ms. Britt again for the great lesson, I'll email you. I'm also sending this video to my friend at school who is in the Barbering Program and is about to graduate
I just want to say THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. I went to the worse school past year , DIDN’T Teach EVERYTHING About state Board test . With this video help me get 80% on the first try. Thank you 🥰🥰
Thank you for what you do. Although not all the stuff was the same in my state but watching your video you gave me some tips that helped me pass. I am now a master barber in Tennessee.
@@dirtmcgirt1643 yes blow dry perm color. I don't remember curling. Most cosmetology stuff that you had to do in barber school. Sorry just seen your reply 😭
@@JS-ip7mh I don't remember what's in the video that was 3 years ago lol. But for Tennessee you'll do the perm color and the majority of stuff you do in barber school that's cosmetology related. Then you'll do face shave no guard taper and the more barber related stuff. Just sanitize and be clean. Most state boards now you can do online through video chat and I'm sure that's a lot easier then them being right there watching you.
Thank you for doing this. I'm taking my practical in Missouri in a few days and I haven't been able to find anything helpful. I wasn't able to do mock boards at the barber school, so this was a life saver. I'm glad we don't have to do the blow dry stuff at the end.

This is hands down the key to the test. Well put together video. It is the reason i passed first go. I am a barber stylist as of 2 days ago in a state, (South Carolina) that arguably has the harshest practical exams, at least it seems so talking to other barbers.. In this video is all you need to pass. Watch it 10 times and you will pass. I was a ojt student and didn't learn a lot of chemical, but with this I passed. I was in the 2 out of 9 who passed in my exam room! Some of the others seemed very good but still didn't make it! Its all about client safety and disease infection control, dont rush to get done the service. If you dont get it done the points you lose are much less than if you skipped one safety item. Two of the people testing had been there 3 times already and still failed. I told some about this video and i think they will get it next time. Hit me up and i will help if i can as not many people helped me and it was frustrating. Yall got this!
Just passed my board exam yesterday and I credit it to this video! no idea why there are any thumbs down... this is the most thorough state board overview I have ever watched! if it wasn’t for this review I’m not sure I would have passed!!
