THE JUDGES ARE NEVER WRONG! In this arena Valdesi is the best for a reason...its what the judges want and they are never wrong. Its the basis for all point scoring sports. Don't whine or complain just accept and compete or go someplace else that is looking for something more traditional. I am traditional Shotokan and understand the differences and respect all these great athletes from the founders to the current stars.
its like writing ... a good kata is like calligraphy , his kata is like scribbling but very very very fast , you can understand it but its not as it should
I wouldn't say bad, just incorrect, Valdesi just needs to spend some time training with good traditional instructors, like kagawa, check out 'Kanku Dai - Ohta Sensei' to see a correct execution of the kata, look especially at the shutos, osu
@engela2 i drink to that. for every hater, they should have a video response to every kata shown on here. pretty sure that would shut alot of people up.
funny how kung fu and karate come from one another but karate can become robotic sometime according to how is taught, but most kung fu styles are always strong but still flowing beautifully.
if the guy would calm down , respect the tempo and well ... do it right he would be an incredible karateka ... i dont know where he gets these things , wasnt Sensei Miura based in Italy ?
I like luca form i actually study his stuff to some etend but im bruce lee with it at the same time, i take from it what i can use because i realize that he is cutting some of his stances and moves in half to get more speed and snap. Whether its wrong or not i always think of in terms of being able to defend mself if it works when you need it in order to defend yourself or love one then cool, but i realize what he is doing is like a short cut and sorry luca there are no shortcuts.
His speed makes him do the stances wrong and obscure...... Should clear out the stances. otherwise a good performance with an extraordinary power..... Super powerful performance...
@KARATEbyJesse When Karateka are judged by judges who "don't know how a correct technique should be excuted"and they are looking for ROBOTICS this eventually has undesireable backfire on Karate-Do and that's a shame!
well i find sometimes he pauses really long then hits as hard as he can without really focusing on technique... but this performance was a bit better than most. a bit.
@enta3omry293, there is definite truth in what you say. The judges are full of shit if this guy keeps winning with the rapid movements and dramatic pauses. This is NOT good kata and anyone who says otherwise, doesn't know what kata is all about.
A rien !
+engela2 True. I have also noticed that in every Karate video I watched where the performer is not a Japanese, there will be 3 groups of people commenting: (1) Those who say good or excellent with an OSS and sometimes a request for more videos for other KATA as well. (2) Those who say otherwise, often with language which are intended to insult and sneer. (3) Those who comment in a constructive, albeit arguable, manner who believe that a certain technique should be done differently. Those in (2) and (3) could be instructors who teach their students to do it differently, or students who have been taught to do it differently. Karate seems to be an art which is very divisive. After Gichin Funakoshi, Japanese masters have broken away to form their own associations and though it is said that they had differences, it is not known what those differences were, exactly. Was it a case of a group of them feeling that the head of the other group lacked leadership qualities? Or was it a case of them not thinking he had a good enough KATA performance to qualify to lead the association, and that someone else could do it "more right"? Or?
I like Luca Valdesi and I respect him very much..but in that video its not the best kata that I have seen and he has many mistakes in his legs and his stances but he plays and punch like a bullet and I think that's the reason of his winning every time that he depends on his power and speed only not the technique
I like Luca Valdesi's performance but I have to say that this is not the best Kanku Dai I have seen. And though I am not at his level yet, I must say that I have seen some mistakes in this kata. He makes extra movements that are useless. Lot of kime though.

Just goes to show you that you don't need Hikite to get through to a final.

why does no wkf practitioners turning around on their heel when they have to...

hay muchas partes que se come movimientos
If you slow it down, you'd slow extra movements all over the place that are just plain wrong.
jeezz i don't see what's so bad about his katas. just at 1:45 didn't look like an elbow strike, but like he slapped his arm.
Mama mia
Like watching a headless chicken frantically flapping it's wings.

WKF nonsense. You want to see how this kata was meant to look, then search for the Osaka Sensei version.
iki bagus tenan, ora iso koe ngikutin

I like Luca Valdesi's performance but I have to say that this is not the best Kanku Dai I have seen.
