    Enjoying your videos of your Australian holiday. My husband and I visited there about 16 years ago. Our first stop was Sydney and from there we went to Cairns and then on to Melbourne. While in Cairns we visited Karunda. We went up by the old fashioned train but came back via the Skyrail (what an experience). Definitely something I will never forget. Enjoy the rest of your holiday

    Hello! - greetings from a snowy Poland. It is Friday 17/11 at 21.08 and we are having our firsy snowfall of winter 23/24.
    Loved the video - roo and croc burgers - I would love try them.
    Gorgeous rain forest walks and visit to the koala park.

      Snow? Really? Wow that means it's round the corner for us back home in Scotland. The roo and croc were both good but I think I preferred the croc.

    Kangaroo meat is commonly available in the meat section in Aus big supermarket chains. It is a very lean meat, tastes a bit gamey but not as strong as deer. The roo’s are wild and from large pastoral stations not farmed or anything. Large numbers out there and the species isn’t harmed by the managed culling. Still only a small % of Aussies eat it.

    Far away crocodiles sound preferable to close up crocodiles to me! I spent 3 months in Australia in 2010 and absolutely loved it. Saw my first ever Atlas moth in the wild in Kuranda. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

I did mention in an earlier comment, my grandfather came over to Argentina from South Australia and my surname is Belcher!!!! I guess the name is just as common as Jones, Smith and many other surnames.... Keep safe and keep on sharing all the lovely things you see.....🤪

    I have held a koala - they have an oily coat and smell strongly of eucalyptus. They sleep about 20 hours a day so seeing them moving is very lucky. Just so you know, Australians only ever call them 'koalas' as they are not a species of bear. They are marsupials like kangaroos and pademelons. Their closest relative is the wombat. Enjoying your travels.

    • @FromTheGong
      @FromTheGong 11 месяцев назад +2

      If you're Australian you really should know how stressful and damaging it is to koalas to be constantly handled and passed around to different people. Most parks have now banned their handling by all except it's known carer.

      @MikeandTriciaOotnAboot  11 месяцев назад +1

      Agree we don't need to hold them, having seen what they go through it put us both completely off that. They say that croc will taste of what ever it has been eating, but that burger had so much spices it was difficult to tell.

    Kangaroo is very nice, but NOT overcooked.
    Regional Areas sell it but difficult to find in some eastern Cities.
    While you are in that Tropical Area, you must try the Asian influenced foods. Im sure you will be impressed even if its your first time.

    • @MikeandTriciaOotnAboot
      @MikeandTriciaOotnAboot  11 месяцев назад

      That probably was overcooked, it was mincemeat in the pie with spices. Will look out for some Asian spiced foods, love a good curry 👍

    Thanks for passing on holding a koala. Most parks have stopped this practice due to the known stress caused by constant handling by different people they are not familiar with. It's kind of selfish for the park to promote this purely for profit at the expense of animal welfare.

    Quite few years ago when we went to Australia my wife was desperate to see a Koala, we drove miles and mile along dirt tracks with Koala warning signs. Did we see a Koala in the wild, did we hell, eventually we found a wildlife park which had a Koala photo opportunity. It was the only way we could find for her to get up and close to a Koala. In the same park she got mugged by a Kangaroo, you could buy bags of food and feed the Kangaroos. Of course she wanted to do this and happily wandered off to feed them with her bag of Roo food in her hand thoroughly enjoying herself. Unfortunately one of them decided she was handing out the food quick enough and decided to stick its head in the bag and grab some. She ended up being pushed backwards and sprawling on a bench (fortunately) with the Kangaroo leaning on her with its head in the food bag. All I could do was laugh and take photos, she was not pleased with my lack of help!
