hold on why are protestants claiming patrick?
Because he never was catholic. Patrick's disciples were not originally Catholics. Plenty of documentation on this. In point of fact they were responsible for spreading primitive Christianity afar. In that way, they were not protestant. But they were never Catholic either.
The Celtic monks had a much different background and didn't have anything to do with the Catholic church
Sure they claimed all the churches and historical cathedrals in Ireland too. And drove the catholic Irish into exile in their own country. But in fact that st Patrick was a Roman Briton who was ordained a bishop. And was sent to Ireland by Pope Celestine in 432. In today’s money I’m sure that would make him a catholic.
