Oregon Trail ride in Frontierland. So you ride in a big wagon and a wheel breaks and you stop for awhile. While the wheel is getting fixed, you "hunt" for food with light guns or something. I can only speak for myself, but... My sister got me into MLP when I was twelve. I have pretty severe anxiety/depression, but for me, the show was just the kind of comfort and nostalgia I needed to get through my teenage years. It also helped my come to grips with the fact that I am a sensitive guy (a textbook INFP) who likes Disney, musical theatre, and the like. Not that I ever denied it, but still. It's not my absolute favorite show or anything (A:TLA, Clone Wars, Ducktales 2017, Phineas and Ferb...), but it's special in a way that I can't quite put into words. And it managed to do a lot of good for me. The show ended during my first semester of college. Pretty symbolic, in a way. Also, I used to watch the heck out of Friendship is Witchcraft. It's been great watching Jenny rise through the ranks. She deserves it.
Putt-Putt and Freddi Fish, but no love for Spy Fox or Pajama Sam? Y'all need to dig deep on your Humongous Entertainment lore. Seriously though, HE has a really cool story to it. Company was founded by the original designer of maniac mansion, the first ever point and click adventure game, who wanted to keep making light-hearted kid friendly entertainment at a time where video games were getting a particularly bad rap. He ended up setting the standard for edutainment for years to come.
I got really excited over the idea of Spy Fox more than the other guys. I don't know why I like Spy Fox the most. I love all the Humongous Entertainment characters though.
My new attraction would be the "Watcher in The Woods Adventure," at one of the Disney parks. It's placed between at least two popular attractions, it's not a ride, and it's not advertised... it's just a trail through a wooded area with signs indicating it's an alternate path to the other attraction. BUT there are a lot of side paths, so if anyone wanders off the correct path, they run into a blind-folded girl and a woman made up as a 72 year-old Bette Davis, and the two scare the ever-loving shit out of anyone that loses their way, until they either collapse from the trauma or flee back toward the correct path. Alternately, there's the "Something Wicked This Way Comes Experience." You can only get in if you're at least 35, and it's just Jonathan Pryce, in a library, wearing his Mr. Dark costume, and ripping pages out of a book while he reminds you that you're getting older and have utterly wasted your life. But the queue does move through a beautiful, if non-functional, carousel.
Incidentally, if you haven't seen The Watcher In The Woods (and Something Wicked, for that matter), it's interesting even solely in the historical sense. This was back before Disney had the Touchstone label for movies that were too 'mature' to put their name on (Daryl Hannah's not so little and not so clothed mermaid was the inaugural run for Disney's Touchstone). I'm sure a lot of people went to see The Watcher In The Woods with their wee little kids because, "It's Disney, how scary could it be?" For adults? Not so much. For toddlers expecting Mary Poppins or the like to come out from behind those trees... I'm sure there were a few tears spilled in the popcorn.
This podcast distinctly reminds me of some of my favorite youtube pairings. The insane back and forth of absolutely ludicrous ideas between two hilarious people never fails to get me smiling, and this had me giggling the whole way through. The closest comparison I can make is to Monster Factory and Drawfee, which has nothing to do whatsoever with Defunctland. Regardless, top notch podcast.
The thing about Peanuts you don't understand until you're an adult and you see some of those "classic" strips is that this wasn't a funny strip for kids, it was a morose strip for adults who were bitter, joyless, and sad because they had horrible jobs, dreadful memories of World War II, and post-war malaise, looking back on a childhood full of lies. And later on, Snoopy and Woodstock were the least objectionable "innocent" character you could market with, so you saw them everywhere.

I almost cried when Jenny bought up Banjo-Kazooie as a cheap to acquire franchise, but she's not wrong. She also offhandedly bought up Popeye, but that actually already has a ride in Universal Islands of Adventure.
The Tom Sawyer to Muppet Treasure Island idea was inspired. A low footprint ride for the island would be a swing ride. Themed "In the rigging", it would mimic the "Sailing for Adventure" sequence in the movie. In the cue, an animatronic Sam the Eagle would caution guests to, "Board safely now, we wouldn't want to get sloppy just because we are on vacation!" the ride could rise up over the island before swinging out to avoid taking up space. As the guests leave they would again hear from Sam, warning them about leaky life boats used on other attractions (an obvious dig at PoC).

The Cereals of Disneyworld. As someone who does not like theme parks due to sensory issues and is only hear 'cause Jenny, this is very surreal. But very wholesome and amusing and charming. And what I need right now in the midst of disease and violence. Thanks, Algorithmic Overlord!
For SeaWorld I'd do a ride based on The Cove. It starts out as a nice river ride where you're surrounded by beautiful scenery and animatronic dolphins, but then things get dark and scary and you see fishing boats, the water turns red and there are "dead" and "dying" dolphins floating in the water. Live (animatronic) dolphins are being rounded up for the aquarium trade. Regarding Free Willy: pneumonia is an infection with multiple causes, and it's a pretty common cause of death in captive orca. Not sure about wild but I doubt it's too rare there. Also, he didn't starve, they started feeding him again and they continued to work to try and get him to survive in the wild, but of course he died of pneumonia. Really, I think the whole thing went as well as anyone could have reasonably hoped. Releasing an orca that had been captive for so long had never been attempted before. And what's more, his family pod was never located. With the project, he got human care while also getting to live in the ocean and interact with other orcas. I think he was much better off there than if he had stayed in the tank.
Replace It's a Small World at Disneyland with an Into the Woods themed dark ride, and get Sondheim to pick which portions if songs to be sung during the ride. And have Russel Crowe sing all the parts.
@@kwh000 based on literally nothing, I’d make up a guess that it’s because Jenny’s channel is personality-driven and not topic-driven, so not every Defunctland subscriber would be into every Defunctland video but Jenny Nicholson subscribers will watch a video about anything
Bulldoze seven dwarfs mine train, and put in a black cauldron ride. It can be a roller coaster/dark ride hybrid. As you ride through the land of Prydain, you see a lowly pig herder named Taran dreaming of becoming a gallant knight. Young Taran receives his heroic calling when the evil Horned King kidnaps Hen-Wren, a prophesying pig that had been entrusted to Taran. Now, with help from his furry sidekick Gurgi and Princess Eilonwy, Taran must locate the magical black cauldron before the Horned King is able to use its mystical powers to summon an army of the undead. At the end of the ride you dive into the black cauldron and fire blasts up around you like a universal ride. Beat that, why don’t you?
my national treasure attraction isnt so much a ride/show as it is a park wide interactive activity a la wilderness explorers, in which you go looking for ""clues"" in the american themed places around magic kingdom (like liberty square, main street usa, frontierland) and if you find all the clues or whatever you get like a special national treasure themed coin (or like a trading pin that you cant get through the shops unless you trade it off someone it can only come from this activity) and thats your treasure. and you get your first clue when you enter the park and then there will be clues leading you to like a certain restaurant or store or area and an employee (if asked) will give you the next clue,, and to prevent ppl from just posting the whole process online and ruining the ~experience~ you can change the clues every couple months or something idk (i came up with this when i was like ten while watching national treasure and have just been expanding on it for years)

I clicked for Paul Blart
untapped theme park potential: the magic school bus
YES
I love the dynamic between these two! Best theme park duo
I don’t usually listen to podcasts but I was hungry for quality content and Miss Jenny always delivers
Please have Jenny on and play this game again...
In fact, you should livestream the next recording of this, and allow the chat to participate with their own ideas.
Also, thanks for including a solid two minutes of just a MLP screen. Really nice to have on my screen while sitting with family...
So weird to think I’ve been subbed to both of y’all for this long. Really happy for both of your success :)
The Cereals of Disneyworld. As someone who does not like theme parks due to sensory issues and is only hear 'cause Jenny, this is very surreal. But very wholesome and amusing and charming. And what I need right now in the midst of disease and violence. Thanks, Algorithmic Overlord!
I've been following both of these channels for years. How is this the FIRST I've seen of this?!
SaintHaHaLOLZ you figured out how to make me crazy
Really fun, you guys have so much chemistry
Funny to see Defunctland surpassing Jenny's channel after so long.
he may have surpassed subs but her engagement per video still eats him
@@kwh000 based on literally nothing, I’d make up a guess that it’s because Jenny’s channel is personality-driven and not topic-driven, so not every Defunctland subscriber would be into every Defunctland video but Jenny Nicholson subscribers will watch a video about anything
32:35 Foreshadowing.
"I don't know much about that"
Oh sweet summer child 😂
I KNEW in the back of my mind that this mentioned at least in passing here
Idk why but i have listened to this podcast twice during quarantine
youtube algorithm??? 5 years ago???
This is so entertaining, I could listen to you guys talk about parks for hours
oh shit Defunctland passed Jenny Nicholson in subs since this happened. That's pretty wild tbh.
I would love to ride this.
might as well make an aristocats ride. sadly there's only like 20 of us left that love the black cauldron
@joh joh i’m proud to be part of that 20 😔
Idk what it is, but I would watch a podcast with just these too, they sound so comfortable talking together
How did I go 5 years without seeing this???
This is great and Kevin, your real voice is perfect!👍
My favourite defunctland podcast yet! Two of my favs collided together
my national treasure attraction isnt so much a ride/show as it is a park wide interactive activity a la wilderness explorers, in which you go looking for ""clues"" in the american themed places around magic kingdom (like liberty square, main street usa, frontierland) and if you find all the clues or whatever you get like a special national treasure themed coin (or like a trading pin that you cant get through the shops unless you trade it off someone it can only come from this activity) and thats your treasure. and you get your first clue when you enter the park and then there will be clues leading you to like a certain restaurant or store or area and an employee (if asked) will give you the next clue,, and to prevent ppl from just posting the whole process online and ruining the ~experience~ you can change the clues every couple months or something idk (i came up with this when i was like ten while watching national treasure and have just been expanding on it for years)
i can't believe two of my favorite channels made a video together and i never REALIZED
August: Osage County Bear Jamboree. The three hour drama is played out entirely with animatronic bears
Muppet Treasure Island is an underrated masterpiece, thank you for spreading the good word.
