Up until they added the option of using your SSN on a 4473, I had the same problem. I have one of the most common names in the USA. I was constantly delayed, even with military service. Even with an FFL, I was delayed by NICS. As soon as they added the option of using your SSN on a 4473, the delayed purchase stopped, even without me using my SSN.
Figure that out. I can't. I've had an FFL for close to 40 years now. My first was/is a C&R.
Now my background check takes less than a minute.

The supreme courts job is to translate interpret and explain the law but they have morphed into self appointed law makers who now spend their time advancing leftist agendas and lessening citizens constitutional rights There needs to be some changes made to the supreme court starting with removing the term for life and replacing it with a term limit of six years or less There must be more stringent requirements and a more thorough vetting process of applicants
And the Democrat Govenor is still sitting on a 72 hour waiting period bill that passed by 1 vote in the Senate by dubious means. This is a textbook example of 'never letting a tragedy go to waste."
I have made the decision to severely limit my business and purchasing from states that are not honoring Second Amendment Rights. NY, California, Illinois, etc, and now Maine. My company will no longer take contracts or purchase products in those states. I HIGHLY suggest other businesses do the same.

I have never voted for a democrat in my entire life. Twice I didn't even get to vote, because my State didn't have to send absentee ballots until 14 days prior to election day.
Those years I was on US Navy warship in the Arabian Gulf. I received the ballot two months late the first time and five months late the second time. Hell, I was still receiving Christmas cards in July.

Maine's southern urban areas and the coastal areas are highly populated with anti-gunner liberals. The sparsely populated rural areas are more conservative but are outnumbered by the liberal population. It's a small geographical area deciding on laws for the entire state.
My county is the size of Connecticut, and we have a grand total of two traffic lights in the entire county. People in my region of the state have long mused of splitting from the south end of the state and giving that territory back to Massachusetts
