You definitely want a compressor which has a option to regulate pressure other things you can try is change your thinner to paint recipe, you should be able to draw crisp clean and thin lines if your psi settings are correct. I also found tamiya paints work pretty well with a 1:1 ratio paint/thinner.
Yeah once I decide to go full fledged airbrush setup, I might have to adjust the workflow. I'm still on the fence, because the compressor is so noisy. Maybe you have recommendation for a quiet one?
@@GiantRobolove I don't mind the background noise so you'll have to dive into some reviews yourself, my current one is a Sparmax AC-501. And if you're going with a new airbrush I'd definitely recommend getting a dual action trigger. You want that fine tuned control over your airflow.

I'd really love a video like that from you, simply sharing your experience over the years of trial and error. I feel like in theory this is a simple topic but some how it gets so complicated, maybe it's because you could ruin a kit or perhaps it's simple a case of decision fatigue as you weight all the options and opinions. You have a good clear and engaging teaching style and I'd love to see you tackle this sometime.

Stynylrez is my favorite water based primer. Needs a bit of extra prep, but is super forgiving when you overload it a bit. Adherence is strong, and dries level. Give a bottle a try.
Hey, thanks for the tip. I have never heard of this brand, but will take a look at it now. I'm still hoping to switch to waterbased colors exclusively for the colder winter days when I can't go outside for painting, because they are not as toxic as other kinds of paints.

I think it turned out great! If you don't like the tone of the wash, you could have used a lighter colour like sand to give more contrast to the chips👍
I find with decals on warhammer just paint on top of it. I haven’t used a single water decal on a gunpla but I’ve put together plenty of gunpla kits. and techniques are very similar stippling word to blend decals
Yeah, some people here also recommended the lacquer thinner over Tamiya thinner. I'll give it a shot. Do you happen to know at what psi your rechargable abirbrush works? Thanks for the headsup 👍
hey giantrobo love can i make a suggestion some of the best gunpla customizers say the same thing.....forget thinning ratios add your thinner at slow small ammounts and continue mixing until your paint is the consistency of milk when you take a stir stick and pull some paint along the sides of your mixing cup there should be trails of color that stick while the paint slowly drips down

Vallejo black primer is AMAZING through an airbrush. Imo... the cordless USB thing is any number of issue. It oculd be the nozzle, the needle being not well fabbed, the pressure... or all of them! Haha. I'd say look into the Harder and Steinbeck Ultra 2024, super cool and it's $100 ish depending where you are. A nice cheap knockoff compressor also costs about $100-140 with a tank! Tankless can be cheaper, but ehhh. ALternatively youc an save a lot of money witht he knockoff H&S Infinity clone called a "Neoco." It's pretty good and comes in a complete kit with hose, water trap, reamers etc for $30-40 on sale.
I have never managed to get Vallejo paint (the Model Air line) to work with the cordless airbrush. It just wouldn't atomize any of the paint at all and just stays in the compartment. I tried a combination of the flow improver, thinner, retarder and whatnot, but never found a good consitency. It either comes out too thin or not at all. I'll look into your recommendations, thanks a bunch for that. There will come a day when I will switch to a full setup. So any input helps.
@@GiantRobolove Retarder actually makes it harder to put through an airbrush, as it's very gummy/gel-like. So if you don't have much pressure, it'll be a detriment! But yeah my guess would be that probably gets 18psi... vallejo and most acryllics prefer to be around 22-25psi evenwhen thinned down. You can get away with lower PSI but yeah... start running into pigment issues.

Yeah, you can put on a layer of topcoat, if you desire so. I have chosen not to do so just yet, because I will probably add some more weathering once I'm about to place this kit into a diorama.
Idk if the balls were cheap or what but i used a bottle that already had them in it and the vallejo mecha varnish made them rust. No other paints in the other bottles did that.
Oh snap, I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe it was just this particular type of varnish? I'm using them with Mr. Color Gloss varnish and had no problems with it.
Don't use the tamiya thinner. Use standard lacquer thinner and thin it the same way you would thin regular lacquer paints. 1 part paint to 2 parts thinner. I do this all the time and never have any problems. The coverage is always perfect. You can even mix tamiya paints with other lacquer brands. I do this all the time and have never had a problem. This is why Tamiya paints are so popular. They are a acrylic/lacquer hybrid and are compatible with any lacquer thinner and lacquer paint.

Yeah true, I've seen a bunch of Warhammer videos and recognize some of the techniques which are very similiar.
Try MLT with the tamiya paints. I also use a rechargable airbrush, and MLT seems to work a lot better than X-20a in a lot of instances.

Use chipping medium or liquid mask in joints and connectors, to keep them from being excessively tight.

Maybe somebody realized calling a 50 ton armored vehicle a "sniper" was dumb. It's a self propelled artillery platform.
