Carl (and most people for that matter) just dont understand that drug addiction, especially heroin addiction is a complicated matter. You can't eat, sleep, move, without dope if you have a habit. Nobody wakes up wanting to be a junkie. I speak from experience too when you are dope sick you have a one track mind. I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. Unfortunately most people pull away from the addict which is not helpful but they usually have no choice. Addiction is the only disease that directly affects the people around the addict more than the addict. Its a terrible thing. The Libs without Pete just are not the same, go watch them do "I Get Along" on SNL without Pete just very unexciting. Pete's songwriting is a step above everybody elses of this generation. Nobody writes about literature, history, poetry the way Pete does. Some people try but he succeeds.
I don’t think this is necessarily a fair comment. What did you want the band to do? Pete wasn’t showing up for gigs he was always going to be kicked out. Carl barat struggled with his own addictions (to coke) and neither of them were innocent in the breaking up of the band. The band wouldn’t work with any of them not just Pete hence why they split up. But the bottom line is, Pete does need to take responsibility. Obviously the fact he was an addict is awful but others shouldn’t have to suffer for him as the rest of the band did. (Anyway I know you wrote this original comment years ago and so the chances of you replying to this are small but there we are)
I know your post was years ago but Carl had addictions too. And that is such an unfair description of heroin addiction. It wasn't just the heroin with Pete was it, its the crack is the killer. Plus he took dxm and ketamine and benzos. I worked and had a mortgage for 10 years and had a habit. Nobody would of believed it.
Yeah sincere comment and all that but Pete shifted more brown for the establishment than dorian grey did paintings. Look at him now. Fat and bloated and a proper full time junkie. True the libs captured a certain energy in London bottled it and gave it to the poor but there was many many casualties at the gates of Highgate. I wonder what the fuck good art really means and was it worth it. Good music, art, literature, conversation, rampages. Is there an eternal hangover for the albion gallion. Man over board....

I think the some people want carl to sort pete out but you can't put that on carl. pete has to sort out pete and I don't think that I forgive pete for what he did to carl but I'll be waiting for pete to stop acting like he was the one person carring the band. I'll be waiting until libertains are full operationail and if it doesn't happen it doesn't happen

both lads are amazing! i miss the libertines but both spinoffs were great... both pete's and carls!
Both are good on their own (pete great) but together they are better than the some of their parts
