Thank you this was great. I watched the Park tool videos but they only show the basics. It's great seeing a more thorough demonstration, from someone experienced who can also mention a few pitfalls to watch out for. It gives so much more confidence that you've understood the process correctly. Much appreciated.
This is a great tool. I changed my chain in about 15 minutes using this tool to resize and the quick link to reconnect it. So far I've done 5 chain changes and the pin is still good on the tool. Highly recommend.
Nice video. If you inadvertently push the chain pin completely off the chain and are having a heck of a time getting the pin back in the chain, try this. Get a piece of plywood or other material (a piece about 1" by 4" should be fine) that is NOT as thick than the length of the chain pin. Drill a hole near the end of your plywood "stick" so that the pin fits in the hole snugly. With the pin securely in the plywood, hold the pin directly in line with the hole in the chain. Use the Park Chain tool (or whatever chain tool you're using) to push the pin back in the chain hole. You'll need a steady hand (or a helper with a steady hand!), but this should get the pin back in place in short order. Good luck!
Or just take another link out but properly this time just to keep you going till you can get a new chain
I will give this a try because the title for this video is misleading and a waste of time and I can buy a chain pin removal for A LOT LESS than what Park Tools charges for the same thing. I don't do this every day so I don't need a $40 tool for one small job. Unfortunately, well over half of the videos about bikes do not address the problem that they refer to in the vid. They pick something that anyone who knows one end of a screwdriver from the other has already encountered and fixed. You should do a vid and SHOW us how to replace a pin that got shoved through accidentally. Guaranteed audience.
Thanks, I just managed to implement this great tip. I have the park shop tool and locked the tool in my bench vise which freed up a hand.
thank you so much! Excactly what is was looking for. Most videos don't explain how to put the chain back together but you did an excellent job in explaining all these little tricks
This is my go to chain tool and I use it nearly every day. Great tool, great video!
Fantastic tip about not pushing the pin all the way through! Thank you so much seriously! I was trying for hours until I gave up and looked for a solution on RUclips. Found your video right away. Went right back to the chain and fixed it in 5 minutes.
dont waste ya money on overpriced parktool branded stuff , the chinese knockoffs are better for half price
Have you done a video to replace a chain pin that has popped out completely? I need to see this!
plsss dude i also need this
Used a chain tool that came with a multi tool I have on my ultegra 11sp chain a couple of weeks ago. Used too much force trying to open it and damaged the chain. Though I got it straightened out, but chain pinged apart going uphill this weekend. Expensive lesson. Now got this exact park tool.
I bought KMC's tool and it's awesome. It handles all chains too and it is sturdy.
Cheers showed just what I needed and saved my afternoon ride
You the best Mr. Bike man ,you help me in so many areas of bike repair ,thank you so much. Keep doing does good vedeo s!
Nice technique with bending the chain to get it to loosen up at the new pin insert! This bike man is for you!
If you push the pin too far and it falls out how do you put it back in?
Very very carefully, he mentioned it himself that it's a lot of work
Massive thank you for this video!! I only build a bike about every 5 years and I was struggling with my chain tool because I forgot that you aren't supposed to push the pin all the way out. Once I watched this video, I was good to go!
Tucker's DJ Mixtape Podcast exactly what I fucking did yesterday 🤦🏼♂️
What do I do if I do push it out all the way?
Thank you Bikeman, you're awesome! Now i know how to shorten chains. :)
Bikeman. Live show..Saturday. .,I was lost
On anything newer than a Chatsworth built mongoose. With motomags thanks again bike man...I love riding my ground up renovated. Modernized. Gt. Xcr. Used, shimano XTR . Xt. Lx 9x3 dual controls Fox air Dt Swiss loving it one less car..
Nice video and great chain tool. I have one. After 150,000+ miles and many individual rides over 100 miles each I have moved to master links and away from chain pins. I had to turn the ride around and head home once, which was one too many times, because a chain pin backed out. Not for me.
Helpful info, thanks for the great video.
Thank you BikemanforU, there are lessons to be learnt here i.e. I bought a cheapo one off eBay and after a couple of uses the darn thing is Kaput
p.s. you won't see a Plumber walking around without a decent Drop Forged Steel Spanner in his kit or an Electrician without something akin to a Fluke Multimeter.
sigh u live and u learn, already expecting mine to break
What if you accidentally took it completely out, how do you put it back in?
I had the same issue. I used needle nose pliers, hammer and 20 mins of patience to get it started again.
@@mathewnunley8433 this. Decided to youtube it cause their must be an easier way, sadly not....
Try using a vice, works far easier than trying to put the pin in with a hammer
Lol I've never been so let down by RUclips videos/instructionals. No body says to not remove the pin completely. And here it's 7 minutes into the video lol.
I also took mine all the way out and had to send my 7 year old son away since I was cussing so much. I eventually dropped the pin and no idea where it went in the shed. Time to figure out plan B
Kool bid and great attention to detail
Great detail Bikeman!
Man, I'm glad I found this channel. I cannot stand watching Park Tool in that old guys monotone voice turning a two minute thing into a x5 15 minute video serious
where's the part about replacing the pin? It's missing. obviously that would require you to take the pin all the way out.... I can't get it in for the life of me once it's all the way out.
You're not supposed to take it out, that's why.....this video is the correct way to do it
Yo bikeman, I got a new kmc k710 sl bike chain and I am trying to cut it to the right size for my bike but I can't get out the hollow rivets/pins.
Thanks, this is my fourth bike to put together... I like the tool also ;)
i would watch this man explain anything he is awesome
Hi,very cute man.park tool are very solid to me.. can you tell me,what the brand that beside park tool ... cost too.how well are they ?
Nice I always go to RUclips for these kind of stuff
I bought the screw one and after making sure the holder pin is on the cain pin a twist it and it pops out but i cant get it back in
My tools pin came wiggly

Thank you! Super helpful.
Great tips !!!!!!!!! Thank you
What about the park tool 3.3 ? Is that the same as the 3.2 ?
thanks fella,worked
Cheers for the info
0:00 The lady in the back is trying her best not to laugh
dead nutz in the middle LOL I LOST IT
Finally showing how to not use a stupid master link that’s gives me trouble
You’re awesome, but what is the put the pin back in show?
You can get the pin in more easily if you tap it with a tack hammer and use plyers to hold it straight. I promise that it is far more unlikely to break the pin or loose it using the tool to put it back into place. Hope I'm not upsetting your sponser...You definitely need one to get the pin out! :)
Everyone has the video of how to use and replace the same pin of the chain but how do you replace the pin with a brand new one? The new ones have a totally different shape.
Simple good video
Thank you
THANK YOU! ! ! !
hey man thanks for the video! is the 3.2 better than the 3.3? i got no experiences in that . i bought yesterday the 3.3 and i am just scared to break that shit by not proper usage.. i hope there is not many things to do something wrong to get it breaking
They’re basically the same except the 3.3 can fit the SRAM® AXS® 12-speed chain and the 3.2 cannot.
BikemanforU, Breaker of Chains
I have the oumers universal park tool.. similar to this tool in the video.sad enough I was not aware I wasnt supposed to remove the whole pin. now what can I do to pop the pin back in? I dont want to end up messing it up.
tweezers?
Depends on if the pin "Mushroomed" on the ends. If that is the case, you won't ever get it back in, and you'll have to go buy a starter pin based on your chain speed. If it isn't 'shroomed', you could possibly use a pair of pliers to force it in.
Not the best fix, but you can slightly round the edge on one side with sandpaper then tap it in slowly with a small hammer and finish it off with your SST. Make sure the pin taps in straight. Just did it on mine and it worked pretty well. Can't vouch for the longevity of the repair.
This dude is dead nuts on! Haha very cool video
galaxies and nebulas full of stars are made like that. thanks.
Thank you. My gosh everyother idiot on the internet just says to do things with out showing how to do it
thank you so much les go
Thank yku
IM IN THE UK ,WHERE CAN I BUY THIS TOOL , I NEED IT ASAP AND HOW MUCH IS IT PLEASE
Right here www.wiggle.com/park-tools-5-to-11-spd-and-singlespeed-chain-tool/ took me a few secs to find
Wow!!! NEEDY MUCH!! It's all about YOU isn't it! BOSS!
I have a size 40 chain how bout that
im not going ti spend 35 dollars in something i can buy for 3.50 online and its made of metal and is very strong
+faster4real well I have broken my chain and other people's chain about 15-18 times and it still is in good condition.
You may live to regret buying cheaply.I have made that mistake before, and it can mean a long walk home,if your chain breaks while out on a ride you want a reliable tool.
I was chained to my monitor during this video.
chain chaing ... er ... change.
Do people wonder If chain is chain, then why isn't change chaing? Better question: Why is there break for break and brake for brake, but neither one is braik?
Good video but doesn't show how to replace a pin as per title, only how to not need to replace it.
7speed cog rear 2cogFront what chain ?👀🚬
This video doesn't show replacement of the pin.
I thought you were going to say 12-speed chain, but you said single speed instead.
Ok, so I pushed a little too much and popped the pin all the way out. How the @$#! do I get it back in to the chain link?
did you ever figure out how in stuck
Ryan Armishaw I held the chain pin with needle pliers in front of the tool pin to where it could push it back in. its very time consuming and it took me 1000 tries but I was desperate
Good luck!
Why re-use the pin? I would not re-use them if you are a climber. Just push them out and put a new connecting pin.
My dumb ass got the pin completly out....and now I'm stuck.
oy i pulled the whole pin out... can't get it back in
@@lewisgrimshaw622 hm. I had a shop work on it ha. didn't wanna risk bending it or weakening. but hey now I know!
I had a chain reaction
give this man a beer
Hey
this isnt that helpul if you have a tool that only takes out the pin
Business in the front and a party in the back.
You didn't remove or replace the chain pin...
Should really take the pain out how the f*** am I supposed to get chain back on
I like pineapples
You can’t help laughing at 4,57 - that’s really not helpful 😥😥
You remind me of Gary Busey.. No matter how cheery you act, you still look miserable haha
Beeeeefffffffff
Remove and change the brain
Cringe
This dude can't by any more annoying. 3 minutes in and he's still jabbering. Had to go. ✌
Video doesn't even show how to replace a pin. FAIL
