1:36 I bought a top-shelf Park CT-3.3. It took me weeks to figure out that the CT-3.3 *cannot* be used to *loosen* *stiff* *links* , which inevitably happens when installing a new pin. I had already loosened the stiff link with my old tiny chain tool that I didn't like. So now I have to keep two chain tools in my kit. I wish that I had not purchased the CT-3.3. The retailers should note that this is not a fully-featured chain removal tool in their catalogs.
Nice one Truman. I didn't know there was so many different versions of the chain tool. I have had mine for years and only had to replace the pin twice. You get what you pay for. Cheers guys.

Tried a couple of different extractors but no luck. Don't want pay 40 buck for a whole new tool.
You can buy parts for the tool. So a whole tool will not be needed. I suggest sending some images to tech@parktool.com so that we can get a better idea of what you are dealing with.

Crank the pin all the way back and epoxy the shelf into a higher position. Actually, I don't think that would work because the shelf probably cannot support the chain for driving the pin in or out. So, you have to buy a second tool to loosen the link.@@markfisher7962
The CTP-series spindle handles, when worn, have an uncomfortable ridge under the rubber moulding. I gave up using these as a shop tool because of this. Could you maybe revisit the design of the handle to eliminate this? Otherwise, they are great tools.
i dont understand the differences between ct.4, 4,3, ct11,etc... aint they alll the same if you want to remove a normal bike chain, i dont get it...do i need ct4.3 for example for 5,6,7,8,9 gears and the ct11 for 10,11,12 gears? please help
Are you working on a bicycle or a motorcycle? A #140 roller chain would be found on a motorycle and we do not make a compatible chain tool for those chains.
These are mostly sold to professional users who already own the correct wrench to install new pins. If we included a socket or wrench, the price would be higher and most people would not need it.
They are not cheap but you get what you pay for. Heavy duty quality and customer service to boot. When my pin didn't come out as described in the video, I asked 'now what?' (see my reply higher up somewhere). I was told to get in touch, I explained the issue and a new part is on its way. No warranty papers or receipts asked. Brilliant after sales service, try that with your cheap tools!
Why are there so many chain tools. Are there so many different types of chain. This is a real question. I wanted a new chain on my bike. Took it to halfords on my day off, in which my time is precious and fleeting between tasks. I was told there would be a waiting time of a month and that really id be better off buying a new bike. They just couldnt be bothered. So i want to do it myself. But i dont want to buy fifty different types of tool when one will do it all. So which park tool will do that?
As long as the chain is the right speed for the bike anything should do, Amazon will do a nice silver SRAM 10 speed for I dunno about £15, which typically have a master or quick link which makes taking the chain on and off super easy. Get some spare master links and some master link pliers though eh. I have a multitool with the rivet pusher and a cheapo larger rivet pusher in my tool box. I suppose perhaps depending on how worn out our old your bike is, perhaps Halfords were figuring to replace the cassette and front sprockets which they felt unable to do. I've been quite lucky with our local Halfords though, but I do a lot of things myself
As 'nad sim' suggested the CT-5 is a great option for someone who is not going to be replacing alot of chains. The more you will use it or the more comfortable you want your hands to be the more you will want to look into something like the CT-3.3 or the CT-4.3.
@@ollieb9875 sounds great yeah the cassette and front cogs with rear derailleur. The derailleur is £8 pounds. Ill just get like for like. I hate waste and throw away culture. Obviously most on this page do too or wouldnt be buying tools. Cheers

I recently bought a CT-3.3, and it’s the nicest chain tool i’ve every used.
I agree , any part that's gonna bend or break is replaceable . Park are genius .

Can tools like the CT-3.2 with the floating plate be used to loosen stiff chain links like the CT-5 with the 2 fixed plates?

All current chain manufacturers do not recommend loosening with the tool. Which is the biggest reason we went to the floating shelf.

If you want to cheapest but still great, go for the ct5 which will work for almost any chain.
