I honestly think people are generally too hard on Scream 3, and I'm kinda sad it's considered the low point of the series. The opening sequence was amazing imo. Killing Cotton at the beginning was a good way to begin the film, and it was interesting to have a male character as the main intro victim for once. As for the rest of it, I thought it was quite cool! I enjoyed the "Scooby-doo" investigation, the Hollywood setting that allowed even more meta stuff, Jennifer Jolie who was a really funny character, the Maureen Prescott backstory, and the whole "trilogy rules" thing. I appreciate they really tried to do something different. My biggest question to Scream 3 haters would be the following : how would you have done it ? How would YOU have made Scream 3 a interesting movie that would bring something to the table ? This is for sure not the best neo slasher flick, but I really think it did its job fine. I have as much fun watching it as watching the other three, tbh.
I think 3 was great. If I had a complaint though. Neve Campbell is not in the movie enough. I know it’s because she was busy with other films but it was really noticeable.
the movie had a lot of potential but realisation was not at its best. Nothing is wrong with its story but it felt like they could have tell the same story better. For me, it's really just a matter of presentation. I, too, think it's the low point of the 4 movies but still like it a lot.
@iGoH Summ3rs wouldnt of done a full circle tho to end as a trilogy. Although this is fab and i believe this is a possible idea they are talking about now for scream 5.
Glad you enjoyed it Antoine. I remember really enjoying it when I saw it in theaters. It does have some fun parts...and I do actually enjoy the 3rd to some degree.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews I like scream 3, I thought the fake gale was really funny and her death was funny and had tension. sure its not as good as the first 3, but when I think of many ending to trilogies...better than spiderman 3 or x men 3. lol
I really liked Scream 3. When Sydney goes back to Woodsboro (the set) it gave me chills. Parker Posey and Courtney Cox were great as a double act (duo) and I really liked Patrick Dempsey’s character

omg, I'm dying for a Monster after seeing the beginning of the video. Great review Lee, I don't think I've seen Scream 3. Thanks for the review and the little nugget of H20 trivia!
Yo Drumdums, I don't mean to preach and that intro was funny af. But I feel I must share an experience I had with Monster Energy. We all know they're not the best for you ofcourse, but once I was at the doctor's office early in the morning and I had a can of Monster with me. The doc asked me how many of those I drink per day, and I said only one if I really need it because I haven't slept properly or whatever. He said one can of monster is the same as 6x cans of coke in terms of sugar content, and we all know how much sugar is in a can of coke (20x teaspoons apparently). Thus 6 x 20 = 120 teaspoons of sugar in a can of monster. Like I said I don't mean to preach but most people don't know just how brutal they are! More horrifying than any horror flick. Just sharing because I care about you and anyone else who reads this! Great review and keep up the good work.
I really loved this one!!! It's probably in my top 3 favorite. I've probably watched it like 6 or 7 times since it came out. I just love the story and i thought the cast was really good
One of the things part 3 has going for it, imo, is that it's very funny -- probably the funniest of the 4 movies. That alone makes it very entertaining and fun to watch. The kills are definitely weak (and strangely rushed), but the humor makes up for it. I also thought circling back to the main plot point of part 1 and adding a new twist to it with the brother was satisfying and did not cheat. I like it.
Parker Posey is what saves this movie for me. Not Neve. Neve is great but she is so over it at this point and the only great scenes with her is the climax when she’s fighting her brother the killer. Parker Posey is GOLD!!!
It was a messed up situation because Matthew Lillard was suppose to comeback as the orchestrator of the killings. He was part of the original idea so Stu was planning the attacks from prison taking in high school students who were fans of him and Billy. The 3rd act would be the reveal of Stu. And yeah it was changed because of columbine. It was really a shame because scream 3 is far fetched and I actually think Stu coming back would have made much more sense.
I liked what you said about the scooby doo feel and how there wasn't any emotional connection to any of the kills. When I first saw it I had thought they actually killed Sidney finally.
I think my favorite part in the movie was the playoff between Sydney and Detective Kincaid. Also their self referential discussions in the movie toned it down in contrast to the rest of the meta content. It wasn’t goofy like the rest. It was dark and thought provoking. Kincaid worked as a red herring but also as someone you didn’t want to be the killer. Speaking of the killer, I find it interesting that besides their two big confrontations and phone calls, neither Sydney or the killer had any contact at all in the movie in person and out of costume until the reveal. While the clues the killer left were suggesting their relation to Sydney, the audience still had to guess who was the identity of her kin. Much like in the movie, Valentine, you know the killer’s name, but after 13 years, it’s not that easy anymore. It’s still a who done it.
Williamson did write a toned script that went through several rewrites. It was interesting I learned on the wham channel Williamson ended up using the ending he wanted for this on the tv show he worked on.
Good review, Drumdums. This movie is an okay movie, but Scream 3 definitely has a lot of problems, but overall I don't think it's terrible, but it is a pretty disappointing entry in the saga. I give Scream 3 a Redbox Rental. Can't wait for your review of Scream 4.
I used to really like this movie. It was my favorite of the sequels I re-watched it recently for the first time in years and I dont hate it but i dont like it anymore either.
and i also love Emily Mortimer she did a great job in this movie and she is so beautiful and gorgeous and she is great in this movie i forgot to mention her in my last comment but i figure put her name on here since i did enjoyed her in this movie
Watching this got me SO PUMPED FOR THE UPCOMING SEQUEL.......I predict Kirby will be shifting into the main protagonist and they better have some strong sub-plots for our surviving trio - PRESCOTT, WEATHERS, AND RILEY!!! So bummed Robert Rodriguez won't be directing 5CREAM(?)
I quite enjoyed this movie and I think Scott Foley did a really good job as Roman Bridger and I found the twist very enjoyable. Note: my wife and I were thinking of naming our son Roman but it was too popular so we chose Scott instead lol not even based on this guy, strange coincidence.
I actually used to like this movie. Not so much anymore. There are some good things like the showdown, the mom's ghost, Carrie Fisher's cameo, and the soundtrack. I also liked the black guy.
great review I actually have a soft spot for the movie in my opinion I thought it was better than 4 but I thought this movie was entertaining and love the concept and this ghostface was the strongest of them all
It's so crazy. That is the same house. It's not even like they tried to hide it. The scene where Michael falls after being stabbed by Jamie lee is almost identical to the scene in the clip you showed. Weren't both those movies done by dimension ?
For me it's weird, because Scream 3 is my least favorite film of the franchise, but it has my favorite Ghostface. Lol. (SPOILER ALERT) I really like Roman, not just as Ghostface, but also the mastermind behind the events essentially of the entire franchise. Roman gives off an intelligent, mastermind type vibe so I thought it was fairly fitting. For this movie, I usually just watch the opening scene with Cotton and his girlfriend and then skip to the part where they're all at the house for the third act.
Wow, I didn't realize I'd actually forgotten what this one was about lol. You're spot on apparently it is forgettable haha. This does bring an interesting thought for you though.. With the resurgence in your top 5/10s videos, how about one for third movies of a franchise? Maybe just a top 5 haha I'm not sure there are a lot of good ones. Great review lee!
For me this is a watchable film. Like I don't really wanna watch it but if I have to if I'm marathoning them all this is such a bump in the road I don't mind it. But in my opinion that underused Syd and she's the best actress in the whole damn thing
Hey Lee, have you seen clips of the Assembly Cut? I honestly think that version was a lot darker and felt more in tone with the original. All of Sidney’s scenes are really good in it! The opening with Cotton in this version is more similar to Casey Beckers as well.
In traditional terms, Scream 3 is not the level of quality of Scream and Scream 2. Perhaps it's because of the extreme sense of characterisation on display, and because of the amount of screen time said characterisation uses. However, in an odd sense Scream 3 is just as powerful as the previous two movies (helped in large part by an astounding turn by Neve Campbell); the twist isn't as fun as Scream 2, but the emotional conviction from Roman really works (and that's the other thing: the annoying behaviour of Roman for most of the film actually pays off as a contrast to his serious and emotional behaviour at the end).. In all, Scream 3 wasn't either a bad or good follow-up to Scream 2 and yet Scream 4 not being good or bad either makes Scream 3 look better.. What I think makes Scream 3 actually fascinating is that to value the movie is to ignore what makes Scream and Scream 2 valuable: by this what I mean is that Scream 3's entertainment derives from its sense of Hollywood life, specifically in how it projects the sense that Hollywood life is something positive. And that's a problem for the franchise, because the first Scream's value can derive from a perceived spirituality, and the second has the same aspect but to a lesser degree. Scream 3 on the other hand is about the idea that Hollywood life is a virtue unto itself, and therefore it's probably the case that to value Scream 3 is to basically ignore the previous two movies (of course, I think that Scream 2 is a great film, and so I would never consider Scream 3 a great film).
Love your comments man. I can' tell you're passionate and knowledgeable...especially about horror. Scream 3 has quite the juxtaposition over the other entries. Some parts are terrible while others are completely enthralling (last act). And yes, Neve Campbell might be her best in this entry.
For a movie that was being written on the fly, it was good. The whole step brother plot was kind of cliche’ but it was interesting nonetheless. Sydneys moms ghost and shit was kind of unnerving and unnecessary, we could have gotten the info on her without seeing Sydney have these mental conflicts that aren’t stopping her from being the badass she continues to be. This wasn’t as dark as its predecessors (Scream 2 was light as well but had its moments) but a decent installment that was saved by Scream 4.
I agree this film has major, major problems. I just find it interesting that you think this film is so bad, but you enjoyed Texas Chainsaw 3D. To each their own, but that is just kind of puzzling. Scream 3 while riddled with problems, is more competently made then chainsaw 3D.
I'm just such trash for these films that I still love scream3. Roman is one of my fave Scream killers tbh. But there is still so much going on in this film, like too many back stories for everyone.
I've been doing a Scream marathon and upon seeing this film again, it just fell flat for me. You hit it on the head with the words "uninteresting" & "wasted". Outside of the returning cast, none of the new characters were that appealing let alone Parker Posey. I was very disappointed with Lance Henriksen's role as he was one of the selling points for me and to see him being wasted in a film like this was pointless. Even an appearance by Jay & Silent Bob didn't help.
Damn lee u truly didn't enjoy this movie for the most part! this would be my review for scream 4 hahah I didn't like that one at all! but it's cool to hear the background on this film that I didn't know of and the problems behind it! very cool! but it's been awhile since I've seen this!
I really liked the whole thing with Sidney's Mother because she was a character I was always curious about. I think it would be really cool if there's a prequel where is about Sid's mother and the moment of her death.
I was like "noooo! Not Emily Mortimer!" when she got the ax. And it happened way too easily considering she was the one who was supposed to be playing the resourceful and badass Sydney Prescott in the movie ... within the movie.
Scream 2 goes down the hill after a great opening scene, it's kinda betrayed itself by killing Randy Meeks who is a movie buff. wouthout Randy Meeks Scream 2 was just another teen slasher. It was a mistake. This is why they had to bring him back in Scream 3. Sidney Prescott is a boring the girl next door. Without other goofy characters Scream franchise would be unwatchable.
I'm surprised you disliked it as much as you did. I agree that it is weaker than the first two, but for a third installment things could have been much wose. I'm looking forward to seeing if you prefer part 3 or 4.
You're right on that one. Things could have gotten MUCH worse haha. I used to really like this one when it first came out, but after watching the others...it isn't as good.
i like scream 3 and i love the cast in this movie especially Courteney Cox and Jenny McCarthy and of course Neve Campbell i think they did a great job in this movie and it was supposed to be the last scream movie but you know how that goes there nothing final when it comes to that word the final chapter there nothing never final so 11 years later they decided to make a another scream movie which it the fourth one and then we got the fifth one coming out in January 14, 2022 and i'm gonna give Scream 3 2000 a 10/10 stars it not my favorite scream movie but i still enjoyed it though for what it was
I like your review. But with some of the things you complain about, that was kind of the idea they were going for. The whole point was they were satirizing trilogies. Where usually in a third installment they get kinda ridiculous and go back and retcon something huge from one of the previous movies. It’s what happens when there’s that many sequels. So when the film feels like it’s reaching a bit, that was kind of the point. It basically throws the kitchen sink at you, like said in the movie. All bets are off with third installments. I still think it’s the weakest of the four, but it’s still very good. There’s not a bad movie in the Scream franchise to me.
Drumdums I’m almost thinking the characters were bad on purpose too. Maybe the characters were supposed to represent the fact that in sequels the characters are usually just cookie cutter versions of pre-existing characters. I do agree that the series was starting to show fatigue by the third one though. I get a lot of the criticisms for it. Oh and I did notice when I rewatched 3 the other day that Neve Campbell is barely in it for most of the movie. They would show her for a couple minutes then go back to the other characters again. Felt more like Dewey and Gale were the main characters. But I still like a lot of things about 3.
I really can't understand the people saying they actually like this movie better out of the other 3.. the scene where the actor playing dewey gets blown up to hell inside the house was just enough for scream 3 to be an absoloute joke.. seriously? This goes far from bashing other peoples tastes, Id really like to know what is it that makes this movie worth a rewatch? The opening is the weakest out of the first 2, the ending is also the weakest, the whole randy video tape thing was so cringy and stupid, straigh outta disney channel.. Courtneys performance was the worst as well for Arquette's, the killings are dull and robotic, the soundtrack is boring, a lot of people running and screaming and no one actually thinks to outnumber the killer, the voice changer was really too much and stupid, plus it gave it away to soon that Roman was the killer, too many unecessary characters that it wasnt that hard to figure out. I can keep going on why this movie is the worst of all, but Id like to know why would this be someones favorite?
Definitely my least favorite entry of the series. It had great moments but over all it was average. Gale looked crazy in them red leather pants lol. The movie would be completely forgettable if it wasn't for Neve Campbell. Funny her bf was a killer, her friend, and her brother and her cousin. The only one left is her father and mother lol, I dunno could be interesting.. The kills are terrible in scream 3 and are very uncreative. I like 1 & 4 the best.. Off topic but Did u happen to review the Fly yet? Just watched it again and man does it have some great scenes... Awesome review as always Bro. Thanx for taking the time to do these reviews, I always enjoy your reviews and your opinions. Your kewl as chitt bro lol ;)

I understand why people can not love the third, but storywise i loved it!
Great Video... love this scream franchise review :)
Thank you!
No Problem :)
I just knew that had to be the H20 house! I actually enjoy Scream 3 and think it crushes Scream 2.
It didn't age well.
great review I actually have a soft spot for the movie in my opinion I thought it was better than 4 but I thought this movie was entertaining and love the concept and this ghostface was the strongest of them all
Glad you like it man. You're profile pic is awesome btw!
thanks
That's actually a really cool idea! There are so many variables for that category haha.
+Drumdums yeah there's quite a few haha. But I think you like a challenge every so often. :D
True haha.
The funny thing is this use to be my favorite but now 2 is
For me this is a watchable film. Like I don't really wanna watch it but if I have to if I'm marathoning them all this is such a bump in the road I don't mind it. But in my opinion that underused Syd and she's the best actress in the whole damn thing
Agreed. I can enjoy this one if I'm in the right mood for it.
This movie could've probably been better if it had the same writer from the first two films.
Jeremy Jahns even brought up how that plot point about Maureen Prescott is eerily similar to Harvey Weinstein’s crimes
Very true!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews precisely
Hey Lee, have you seen clips of the Assembly Cut? I honestly think that version was a lot darker and felt more in tone with the original. All of Sidney’s scenes are really good in it! The opening with Cotton in this version is more similar to Casey Beckers as well.
No but I'd be curious to check it out.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews it’s hard to find. I know some people have the complete version on a hard drive and are sharing copies.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews several of the scenes have been uploaded on Twitter and RUclips. They are really worth a watch
Love your face in the thumbnail, Lee!! I love this movie, but it's my least fave of the 4. I did enjoy your review, handsome guy. :)
Haha thanks Zach. I do enjoy a few aspects of this one...and at the end of the day, it's a slasher film. So you could do a lot worse.
Scream 3 is not bad.
I do like the last act. I will say that.
Can u guys please talk about Wolf Creek? 😊
Really I loved this movie
It did have some really cool things going for it. Sidney was awesome as usual.
Drumdums whoa I never expected you to reply. I love your reviews. Can you review Edgar writes corneto trilogy
Thanks man. Yes I love those too. I'll add them to my list...and thank you for watching!
Tenth Doctor i did too i loved it
For a movie that was being written on the fly, it was good.
I like Scream 3. Way better than the 2nd and 4th.
Biggest sin of this movie is giving Hayden Panitierre the hairstyle of a 55 year old Wall Street executive. The hell?
She was in 4, not 3.
All im saying is that your series is pretty damn good when scream 3 is considered the worse.
As a comedy it's great.
I agree this film has major, major problems. I just find it interesting that you think this film is so bad, but you enjoyed Texas Chainsaw 3D. To each their own, but that is just kind of puzzling. Scream 3 while riddled with problems, is more competently made then chainsaw 3D.
The side characters weren't that bad, Tyson Fox (Deon Richmond) was funny as hell
I just didn't think they were anywhere near the level of the first 2.
But that Carrie Fisher cameo is pretty damn sweet
Yes it is. I really enjoyed that scene.
Haha I might have been too hard on it. I actually enjoy all the Scream movies...I just like this one the least.
Jennifer was a good character too, the actress did a phenomenal job.
I really liked the whole thing with Sidney's Mother because she was a character I was always curious about. I think it would be really cool if there's a prequel where is about Sid's mother and the moment of her death.
I agree. I think maybe they should have been a bit more elusive and mysterious with it though.
Yeah, the whole mystery about her though really reminded me of a The Black Dahila murder case,
I like all scream movies
I was like "noooo! Not Emily Mortimer!" when she got the ax. And it happened way too easily considering she was the one who was supposed to be playing the resourceful and badass Sydney Prescott in the movie ... within the movie.
Yeah that was a shock!
Roman as the killer was IMO so good at first I'm like okay it's way too obvious to be Kincaid I really thought it would be A female
I’ve been avoiding it but I might watch it next week because it’s half term
Rating: 2 Hours Lost
nice review i subbed!!
Thank you!
I kind of hated it at the time... Watching it now, 20 years later, and I'm kind of enjoying it. Go figure...
That happens to me sometimes.
i like scream 3 and i love the cast in this movie especially Courteney Cox and Jenny McCarthy and of course Neve Campbell i think they did a great job in this movie and it was supposed to be the last scream movie but you know how that goes there nothing final when it comes to that word the final chapter there nothing never final so 11 years later they decided to make a another scream movie which it the fourth one and then we got the fifth one coming out in January 14, 2022 and i'm gonna give Scream 3 2000 a 10/10 stars it not my favorite scream movie but i still enjoyed it though for what it was
Who do you ship sid with?Billy, randy, derek or Mark
*in ghostface voice* Hello, Drumdums.....
Haha that voice is classic!
"The kills are really lifeless" hahaha, I see what you did there, Lee.
Oh I agree with you and get where they were going with this one. Just didn't like most of the characters. Thanks for watching!
I can keep going on why this movie is the worst of all, but Id like to know why would this be someones favorite?
and can you do the first 2 I know what you did last summer's? leave out the 3rd cause has nothing to do with it and sucks
S.M.S Productions Yes those are definitely on my to-do list!
Great point with columbine
Leia!
Would have been better if parker posey lived... I actually thought she was the only interesting side character.
I have always had an issue with her. Constantly find her annoying haha.
you know can understand that too lol, but for this film I actually found her a highlight after her initial annoyance.
Thanks so much man. I really love talking to fellow movie lovers...especially horror ones. And I'm really enjoying doing these reviews.
Every time gale is on screen I can't take my eyes off those shitty bangs! I don't care what year it is, that's just terrible
It’s my least favourite but I love all of them.
I think the scenes with Maureen are really creepy like with her voice
I thought Parker posey was extremely funny In it and I agree with pros as well
She did have her moments.
