    If you're going to do a worthwhile comparison you should probably have one guy do all the playing with the same mike setup and playing the same licks. I certainly would pick one over the other on the basis of this video but it was fun to watch.

    The Eastman E20OM is a Martin 000-28. It has the same Short scale but a Adirondack top and bracing.

    Great guys but even greater service to guitar seekers. Straightforward talk about the subject guitars and well-recorded strumming and fingerstyle soundings.

    This comparison makes the choice between the 2 as clear as mud! 2 different players, different licks, different mics, and different position/distance from the mics. Very nice boys!

    this is a tough one. I have been really digging eastmant guitars a lot. I u=just got a t486 and its just amazing. I really thinking about getting an eastman acoustic as well. You cant beat the quality and price 👍

  • @bobaldo2339
    @bobaldo2339 2 года назад +4

    The biggest differences are actually the scale lengths, the fretboard radius, the top wood, and the price. The Eastman has a shorter scale length - more like a triple 0, a rounder fretboard radius of 12", an Adirondack top, and a much, much lower price. These days it's hard to tell which guitar is made with better quality control.

      Certainly is Bob, those Eastmans have fantastic quality control, at least here in The Netherlands!

    Martin long scale - Eastman short scale... tough o compare. to keep it relative- would be good to go with the 000-28 no?

    I owned an e20om and found it lacking in some mid range clarity and tightness it just didn’t have that something special that I can hear in that Martin. I think the Eastman dreadnoughts are better and slope shoulder e20ss I own has very special tone. They are great value and here in Australia the Martins are very expensive. I also think Eastmans ate getting better.

    N. American acoustic makers alike has finally met it's match in the modern world. Eastman well.....really is the new modern Martin of the East along with Yamaha, Yairi etc. You cannot beat the price as well as the quality overall. It may not have the legacy, years the Martin/Gibson etc. had but at the end of the day we are after all headed to the future lol!

    Hi Guys, great idea those Guitar Battles! Not to forget, the Eastman is short scale! Martin long scale. Big difference! Maybe more so then the top. I would love a battle between the Sitka top Eastman OMs. E6OM vs E8OM. Coen, we have emailed about the OMs last couple of weeks, and I am very close to order an E8OM through you guys. Would love if you could present that one on your youtube channel. Maybe on the Demo Channel. Would appreciate it very much to hear it before ordering! Keep up the cool videos! Take care and stay safe. Regards from Switzerland

      Hi Michel, that's great to hear! And thanks for the tip, the scale length was indeed completely overlooked in the video... We'll make sure to make a demo of her next week, but I'd be happy to make a short clip with my mobile phone as well. Let us know! - Maarten

      The Fellowship of Acoustics hey Maarten, actually I wanted to also say I like how both of you play, it is nice to hear an OM/000 being strummed too, not just fingerpicked. Like your style. I am more of a strummer myself too. Would be cool if you could give the E8OM some playtime on your demo channel...maybe with the E10OM, d‘like to hear the diff sitka/rw and adi/hog. I would really like to hear what your take is on the E8OM. Coen thought it was awesome. Take care Michel

  • @RRStout
    @RRStout 4 года назад +18

    Really hard to determine when you're both playing different songs or different chord progressions. To get a true comparison, you both need to play exactly the same thing. Your last comparison video was much better than this one.

  • @nolanr7679
    @nolanr7679 4 года назад +5

    Martin takes the cake for me. The Eastman sounds super full, but not as much clarity. I just love the way Indian rosewood resonates. And I like sitka better than Adirondack. All that said the eastman is half the price.

      look at the mic placement.. it makes huge difference. This was a poor way of testing these 2 guitars.

  • @patricklundquist9869
    @patricklundquist9869 2 года назад +1

    Playing style and mic placement has introduced variables beyond just the guitars themselves. A true guitar battle requires using just a single mic and just one player playing both guitars.

    mic placement is drastically different. the eastman e20om lacks some mids and focus in every video i've seen of it. a bit too scooped for my taste. what strings does it ship with? i'd like to hear one with 013s.

    Not really a fair comparison. One guitarist playing the same thing on both guitars would be better. Or trade guitars between two players. Each player has his own touch and that can make a huge difference in how the guitars are perceived.

    I own the Martin and I USED to own the Eastman. The Eastman is fantastic for the money, but the OM28 is still gonna take it's lunch money. I wish Eastman made a full scale traditional OM (25.5"). I LOVE their dreads that are full scale

    East man is very personal a has sound of own.

  • @Me-fg1pp
    @Me-fg1pp 2 года назад +4

    The real difference is the Price, the Martin just way, way over priced.
    That being said, once you get used to that Martin sound it's hard to go back to another guitar company.
    However, I own an old Martin 000 spruce top, Mohogony B&S.
    Picked up an Art n Lutherie spruce top, cherry B &S.
    Guess what they play the same, and sound very very close. So you can never tell right! It's in the eye or ear 👂 of the beholder!

  • @lauriedepaurie

    If they are mixed identically, the Martin wins hands down.
    The weird thing (to me) is that the adirondack topped Eastman is much flatter in response than the Martin. Generally not my experience with adirondack tops....

    • @thefellowshipofacoustics
      @thefellowshipofacoustics  4 года назад +2

      Could be because it's a new guitar, Adirondack is usually much stiffer and needs some time to loosen up :)

  • @BreadLightPray_EWFMgtr
    @BreadLightPray_EWFMgtr Год назад +1

    ☑️ I've had a new Martin OOO-42 many years now and a recently acquired Eastman E40OM, and I have to admit the Eastman plays better and sounds marginally better than the Martin at about half the cost ; but the Martin is still quite a bit sexier axe of the two ‼️🤔🥸🤓😜🤑
    However the Martin in this video comparison clearly has better tone than the Eastman ‼️😊

  • @RealKennethChoi
    @RealKennethChoi 4 года назад +2

    It’s a little bit unfair bc the Martin is about 3-4 times the price of the eastmans. But hey, that could just be a compliment to the Eastman.

  • @Ravenscaller
    @Ravenscaller 2 года назад +4

    The Eastman was farther from the microphone and not being played directly into it. And nobody ever considers that they come with different strings which drastically alters the sound. The Martin costs more but it holds it's value. If you buy a new one and keep it long enough you might even make a profit. I suspect the Martin mystic will hold it's value even better and longer than Taylor. A Martin OM21 might be a better comparison at $700 or so less. Still the Martin isn't twice as good and an OM-28 costs twice as much as the Eastman.

    Eastman really has a stronghold on that $1k-$2k pricepoint.. great product for the space they are occupying (I just wish they weren't made in China). I'm probably gonna save for the Martin as I have a Gison and Taylor at home, but I would point anyone with a midrange budget toward Eastman.

    Another big difference, scale length Is shorter on the Eastman

  • @drothberg3
    @drothberg3 8 месяцев назад

    The Eastman is not a true OM. I wish they would stop calling them an OM, as it has the shorter scale length, so it's not a comparably spec'd guitar. Part of the difference we hear is the scale length which makes a huge difference in sound and feel. I wish the battle had been between a Martin 000-28 and the Eastman, which both have the 24.9 scale length. .
