    The words in German are a translation from Psalm 46, puts Jesus Christ into the OLD TESTAMENT. However, the melody is not by Luther despite what your hymnbook tells you. It is by Johann Walther as documented in the letters of Luther. Time to do some real scholarship or go back to school!

      @@charlesbaer8681 Thank you for your comment, and for pointing out my error. it does appear that Johann Walther composed this tune. I had collected my information from hymnary.org, and did not think to look further.
