The words in German are a translation from Psalm 46, puts Jesus Christ into the OLD TESTAMENT. However, the melody is not by Luther despite what your hymnbook tells you. It is by Johann Walther as documented in the letters of Luther. Time to do some real scholarship or go back to school!
