IDK it's called "risk management" - how not to get sued. If you knew how much our education costs plus liability insurance it's easily 1XXXXXX over a career. You might think twice before saying this
Well, this was very useful. When I was 14 my dentist asked me if I wanted my permanent retainer removed in exchange for a removable retainter and of course as a teenager who clearly didn't have a formed opinion about it I said yes. If I had seen this video at that age (I'm 22 now) I would have stuck to the permanent one. No one explained to me that the removable retainer would break after a few years with the consequent payment of a new one. At least they told me that if i didn't use it every night my teeth will bunch up, so that's on me.
Hello, could you please explain what was your case for wearing braces? And did your teeth go back to their original position after not wearing your retainer?
Hello, I just wanted to ask a question if you don’t mind. I have a permanent retainer holding my gaps together after having braces but I feel very uncomfortable with it on and it makes me feel anxious at times as I suffer with anxiety. The thought of it not being thoroughly clean or even the thought of it breaking doesn’t leave my head. I just wanted to know, if I was to get it removed would the gaps come out straight away or would I be able to get my teeth moulded and get a new retainer to keep the gaps closed? Please advise me. Thank you
I understand your concern. It's not for everyone. I would find a dentist who can make a removable retainer same day for you as the bonded one is removed that way you won't have to worry about that risk of gaps opening up
Does a teen have to get a parents consent to get a permanent retainer on top? I set my daughter up an appt to get a consult with her previous ortho. She went in and they done a permanent retainer on top without discussing it or asking me if it was ok. When the ortho went to check he ask why it was being done and the technician said upon request (which was cleary not what communicated when setting up the appt) I was waiting for her to finish outside and she text and informed me that they had placed a bonded retainer. The appt was supposed to be to inform if she should get it or if she should just get a new removable one.
Very much a grey area. Usually your cosnet that you did at the beginning of ortho covers everything including the retainers but for ME I never do bonded without talking to the parents first. I had a bonded placed on me at age 18 and I was SO MAD!! Sounds like you need to have a calm meeting with the doctor and office manager and ask nicely for them to remove it and place a removable instead at no charge. It seems reasonable to me because there was a "miscommunication" (ahem)
@@Straightsmilesolutions thank you for the feedback. What is your take on permanent bonds on the top row of teeth? She had a retainer before but misplaced it and when she finally found it her teeth had slightly shifted and that was why we were inquiring about a permanent one before making a final decision which resulted in a permanent one being placed when she went for the consult appt.
@@carolinalady1 I only do those in cases with anterior openbites or where the patient has a frenectomy but that's just me. Otherwise no need in my humble opinion
The orthodontic industry… all about making money!

I am sorry to hear that but thank you for your insight!
