    Make sure to Update Gravity! Newly added block list URLs do not start being used until you update Gravity by going to Tools / Update Gravity.

    Is there any good reason for not using unbound ?!

    If you don't update "gravity", the new list is not being used.
    That's why you still got only 180k blocked domains.

    Don’t forget to update gravity, otherwise your added lists won’t take effect.

    you'd better add unbound to pihole. :)

    Proxmox scripts! Absolutely the best.
    Am I wrong for thinking that Android devices have a way to bypass DNS? Because ad blocking doesn't seem to work as well.

    • @niro1960
      @niro1960 6 месяцев назад +3

      yep, that's why you have to do it system wide and then make exceptions for devices inside of pihole. here, tv...

      @@niro1960 I did. My openwrt has my two pihole servers setup as it's DNS servers. But I noticed some, particularly Google, apps seem to be able to bypass it.
      It's almost like they're using some kind of tunnel or other mechanism.

      @@hotrodhunk7389 The trick is to prohibit DNS for all devices except the device that is hosting pihole. DNS request have to use Port 53. A rule in your router that is only allowing pihole to use UDP and TCP port 53 does the job and I've never had problems with this solution. openwrt is perfect for that...

    • @zyghom
      @zyghom 6 месяцев назад

      you could use firewall rules and catch everything on port 53 and redirect to your IP of your DNS
      some apps don't use DNS - they use directly the IP of the target hosts however

    after adding new list you NEED to update "gravity" then you need to ( reconnect ) to the network again , that's why you see ads after what you did man !! i like Adgurd home more than pi-hole

    Very good stuff...how lightweight is the LXC container for Pi-Hole?
    I have a VM running Debian server with Pihole and Cloudflared to tunnel my requests out thru DoH, would a LXC container work better?

    • @hotrodhunk7389
      @hotrodhunk7389 6 месяцев назад +4

      Yes, absolutely yes! I just got done switching everything besides my Kali VM and windows VM to lxc. Great decision. CPU RAM and disk size went down a ton. Even have docker inside of containers. I really don't see any downside to it. They're super quick to do everything, small, and still have separation for each service.

      watch cpu/ram/disk usage, and reduce it,
      my adguard run on lxc and i have no problem

    i can pi-hole not recommend it is buggy and unstable i have it use over years on many systems self on the pi and the original img for pi-hole he died over a couple of times and must build him complet new only thing i did is a simple update, more not
    now i test Adguard over 6 months it have the same funktions as pi-hole and is until now not one time died, updates go esay over the web page with a mous klick i can make my dns forwarding and many more i can use the same list as pihole but not all of him and so forth
    i can say Adguard is the better dns filter he have the same functions as pi-hole have and a lot more stable worked by me

    Nice to see using "Advanced Mode" for container creation now allows for selecting a VLAN tag! Hand to fight with other build scripts for this in the past.

    Where should you utilize a word "utilize"?
    You don't utilize word "utilize", you utilize word "use" instead. It is the same thing, and you do not sound like a sell-person.
