      There is a lot of factors here. But ddr 4 or 5 can be used for (for example) a 13600k.
      Based on a few benchmarking results from somewhat reliable yters, the difference between the top end of both is about 5-10%, depending on the task.
      So, you have to decide whether the difference in cost between the 2 is worth it for the performance.
      If you already HAVE solid ddr4, it probably isn't, unless you are buying a 13600 or better. Of course, if you are going all out and buying an i9...just drop the money for the better ram.
      If you are like me and the pc you are upgrading is MANY generations old, you need new ram anyway. I dropped around 1500 on pc parts. I grabbed a 14600k bundle and got 32gigs ddr5. Partially because I got a bundle that saved me money on the better ram. But even if I had to buy the parts by themselves... 32gb ddr4 40-60bucks, 32gb ddr5 80-120 bucks.
      $1500 x 10% is 150, 1500x5% is 75.
      So even if I only got the minimal uplift, its still worth as long as the price between the two is under 75 dollars difference. Which it is.
      If I get a 10% uplift, well, that's just gravy.
      Edit: since the price difference is 40-60 dollars (depending on quality) it makes sense to just go ahead and grab the better ram. Especially because I got it in a bundle and if you subtract out the parts cost if purchased individually (proc and mobo) I essentially got the ram for like 20 dollars. 😂

    Aight heres the thing you guys, ddr5 has higher speed but also higher cl wich means its kinda dogshit if u have like 6500mhz cl40, wich means it cyckles 5x40. With ddr4 u can get a pair of good ram sticks that have cl 14 and overclock them to 4400mhz for around $200 if u are on a budget u can get 4400mhz with cl 19 and try to lower the cl if possible to maybe 18-17. Remember there are ddr5 ram with 4800mhz with cl 30 etc and if u think about its its better having 4400mhz with cl14-19 then 30 with just 400 extra mhz speed.

    • @MsabResearch

    Great clarification especially with AMD CPU’s. I personally upgraded recently to a 13600k with DDR5 CL30 6000mhz, and have been loving the overall experience. Paired with a 6950XT.. this pairing has made my gaming experience buttery smooth compared to my last build. Feels like I can tell a difference between DDR4 (on my last platform) and DDR5, but that could also just be a bit of placebo AND the fact that I was intel-locked with having a 10400f… so no XMP.. a lot of these differences is possibly what’s coming together to make such a night and day experience for me. Although AM4 & AM5 platforms have better upgradeability over time, I chose LGA 1700 simply because if my 13600k isn’t enough, I’ll just go i7 or i9… but as it stands, both the i7 and i9 are complete overkill for just 1440p native gaming…. This 13600k is amazing

    one thing to add to this is since Cas latency on ddr5 is so high, fps can be unstable and it won't be a huge performance jump because you can get cl14 on 4000mhz ddr4 you aren't in any rush. I'd say wait 2 more years till you're missing out on serious fps

    • @Ι.Κουμ
      @Ι.Κουμ Год назад

      Its true that cas latency usually increases the faster your ddr5 ram is, but the higher mhz speeds make up for it. Probably the best speed to have balance is at 5600 mhz, still tho its true that it might be a bit unstable.

      It doesnt matter as much if its i7 or i9, what matters most BY FAR is the generation. A 13th gen i7 with ddr5 is better than a 12th gen i9 with ddr4. So keep that in mind.
