    To me, the chorus sounds like many men singing like many voices together, as if it's his entire air wing or country singing to him.

    I feel like the low vocals fit the story perfectly. The story behind this song is really sad, so in my mind it fits very well.

    • @whatitdodave
      @whatitdodave  2 года назад +9

      I get more aggressive, angry vibes rather than sad in my opinion.

      @@whatitdodave well it's a sad story that makes you angry. You will understand when you watch the Sabaton History video

      @@greaper1976 I watched it and read up on it as well but I still feel the same way. It’s alright tho. That’s the thing about music. People get different things from it and that’s alright.

    I totally agree that in this song the chorus is a little bit “worse” than other sabaton’s songs but the meaning of it is just so powerful “we mourn the day that you died so be our guide Czechoslovakia’s pride”.

      I think it's a good contrast though for the verses which imo absolutely steal the show in this song...that riff is so good and you just can't not bop your head with the rythm, for me personally it's instinctively moving in motion of the infinity sign

    Coming from this song, I recommend Aces In Exile, it's about all of the foreign pilots who served in the RAF during the battle of Britain, and is one of my personal favourites

  • @Raptor577
    @Raptor577 2 года назад +7

    For me, the lower register chorus gives of a respectful, somber, yet powerful, anthem-like, vibe. It's also very catchy. I couldn't get it out my ear for several weeks.

    Sabaton's frontman is half Czech to start with. He is so proud of his heritage. This afro bloke can definitely comment on melody, instruments after a spliff or two, but knows fuck all about RAF, battle of England and personality of Dr. Karel Janousek.

  • @Jan-jc4rx

    After he returned to his homeland, Karel found out that his wife had died in Auschwitz. Also due to Czechoslovakia being occupied by Soviet Union, they imprisoned him after he tried to escape to America.

    About the sound in space thing:
    You're right, because sound is just vibrations moving from one air molecule to another, and as such, no molecules (or rather a REAAAAALLY smol amount of them), no sound.

    I learned about him thanks to the band Sabaton. And I became more interested in history. Unfortunately, nothing is written about him in the history textbook. Which is a shame that as a nation we forget the history we have. So thank you for the interesting video and I wish you much success from the Czech Republic

    I feel that the chorus is placed lower in terms of pitch and notes, as to represent the quite tragic tale of which it tells. Although that is not to say, I don't understand where you're coming from, I simply experience it as a bit more epic, yet dark. Otherwise: fantastic video, loved it as always, keep 'em coming!!!:)

    I respect your opinion. It's more worth to hear once in a while "I didn't like it" than just blind praising of everything the band does just because you like them.

    I understand what you mean when you say that you were expecting an uplifting chorus because of the aces. But what I believe is that this song is more builded to be listened as an tribute/homage to the marshal
    Also, if you want to say his last name correctly, read it as Yanoshek!😁

    Chorus took me a few times with the lyric video to understand what was being said. After that I was good to go. Then this one hits me harder than most Sabaton songs.
    But think about it. Band from Sweden.
    And this case doing a English language song. About a badass Czechoslovakian. Whose name you have to get into the song somehow.
    Trying to get the wording right at time is hard. Cause it's a mix of so multiple languages.

    The term dogfight or dog fighting derives from well dogs fighting, it’s savage, up close and brutal, where it’s all about tearing into to your opponent and unloading as much rounds into the poor bastard as humanly possible, however due to the advancements of technology and warfare, dogfights tend to be extremely rare if not obsolete due to long range air to air missiles and the only last time a true dog fight happened was during the Vietnam war where missiles weren’t as accurate as they are today where they only had a rang of two to three kilometers or less and would more often than not, miss their targets and so pilots would simply shoot at each other, and very few actual dogfights happened after that and other than a few dogfights during the war for Iraq other than a few missiles the last official gun kill via a fighter was late 1972s five or take

    I feel the grunts is a represents those that fought with him and those that knew all he did for Czechoslovkia releasing their anger against treatment the Soviets did to him in stripping all of his honors, rank, and imprisoning him. He might have lost it all. But to those people he will always remain the true pride of Czechoslovkia and its guide in hard times.

    If you are not in some sort of cloud in space, there shouldn't be any sound.
    Also the 'Czecolovakias pride' bit I have always heard it 'an an army of flies' before seeing the lyrics.

    That's an interesting take, personally I feel the opposite about this song. I like the chorus the most because it feels very different but it's still undeniably Sabaton, while the verses are just ok to me. Regardless I like the reaction and I thought your input was interesting. Thank you for the great reaction.
