The Germanic tribes were not primitive. They had skills and were artistic and so were the Asian tribes as well. I disagree with this lady saying there was no art during what many people call the dark ages.
+Geo Murch Jr. I'm with you that "uncivilized" (around 4 minute mark) is a relative term and is used poorly in this video. Still, the narrator doesn't say the people were "primitive" or that "there was no art", but rather that the art produced by these people was less technically advanced than art produced by the Romans - "quite primitive in comparison" I think is the exact phrasing.. All in all, I get what you're saying and agree the *ahem* Dark Ages gets portrayed in a negative light unfairly.
The term "Dark ages" is generally Eurocentric, meaning, it is centered around Europe. Therefore saying that "There was no art" is only applying to Europe.

This history, like most of the history I was exposed to in school, omits technology, commerce and language almost entirely as tho politics, religion and art were the sole underpinning factors of rebirth. Every thing has a history: wood, brick, metal, cloth, foods, medicine, domesticated plants and animals, and multiform tools - all of them were players.
Hi Angie, here are the answers with a brief explanation Part 1: 1. True, Italy was not unified during the Renaissance 2. False, the Dark Ages the first part of Medieval Era 3. False, the Renaissance did not begin in northern Spain. It began in northern Italy 4. False, Theology is the study of God(s) 5. True, Medieval art was flat and without perspective Part 2: 1. It is horribly judgemental, simplistic and biased particularly in the introduction parts on Antiquity, Dark Ages and High Middle Ages. Just an example - in the High Middle Ages the lack of "interest" for sciences other than theology was not because "people were focused on the spiritual" but rather because the Church was intentionally keeping everybody ignorant and was forbidding any "research" threatening its total supremacy. It was a time (in most of Western Europe) when societies were horribly unjust and the Church and the high aristocracy were ruling with fierce brutality over a generally miserable majority. Also in the Dark Ages the Church didn't so much preserve ancient wisdom as actively destroyed much of it and that's we have inherited so much of it through Arab translations. To simply state that "barbarians are primitive and stupid" is very far from educational. I think it creates much more harm than good by spreading simplistic stereotypes and narrow-mindedness.
+Atara Leah You know what, I actually don't. At 29:06 of the documentary, the credits list "sounddogs music", "flying hands music" and "Ben Davis" as composers. Try searching RUclips for "Middle Ages music" and I bet you'll come up with something similar. It sounds like pan flutes and harpsichords were used a lot in the compositions. Good luck :)

They wanted to get away from mystic and astrology during the renascence so they created humanism and I quote she said in this video " they started digging up all they could find on Greek and roam. " because they thought they were the closest to humanism. I could have sworn on Zeus grave that the Greek and Roma's practiced mystic and astrology that they got from a older civilization which I need not mention.
Another reason that the art of Rome and Greece was lost was Christianity. The ancient art was pagan, it centered around the naked human body, considered sinful by the church, The bible also teaches against false images icons,,so art was make basic and simple to avoid this prohibition.
Not true. In roman times and medieval times there were numerous pictures of naked jesus. Nudity was lost because People didn't know how to draw it. There are lots of pictures of medieval bathing, but they are not very well detailed, because of lack of skill.
