What’s happening in America is an EVIL too great to easily harness. It has gone too far and ignored for to long. We need to get everybody out there to vote blue and hope our candidates will do their job and are not there for the perks.
I do believe that the republican party of to takes the lead on this, however, because of their needs for power and money - some democrats are guilty also. No legislation introduced to stop their (and their family's) ability to trade stocks. These politicians are in this for the money and power, but the democrats do appear to had more compassion for people, whereas the Republicans seem to only care about corporations, their investment portfolios, and the power and control they weild over the American peoples lives.
The people of the GOP, not necessarily the elected officials because they are just puppets, the people are their strings & their media platforms like Fox are the puppet masters.
Well, i'm fairly certain that at least two of them might have been a name for the US in the 1930ies. It's not a coincidence and not an aberration that Nazi ideology went down well with some US citizens, and the US isn't the only nation in which that happened.
When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

My mom in the early 70's was reluctant and resistant to allowing Grandma Rose to tell me about Auschwitz and how she survived WW-2 as a small child...
After weeks of discussion, mom finally gave in. For the next 3 years, I would sit with Grandma Rose, and she told me of the things she witnessed and endured.... and she often said, "It's when we forget these things, that's when they will happen again".
Hate has no mission other than destruction... and the focus of the destruction is to take our minds off of our own responsibility... It's easier to hate than to love, it's easier to destroy than to build, it's easier to burn, than to grow... Hate only cares about destruction...

You’re so lucky you had a grandparent who wanted to pass this knowledge and history along, although I’m sure that was painful for you both. I’m sure you gave her so much hope.
To hate means you have the feeling, the energy, the negative destructiveness of hate within you; like the saying "It's like drinking poison and hoping someone else will die". Father has woven laws of "nature" into our existence and the energy of karma is very real. Humanity will have to evolve or implode, life as we know it cannot survive our current actions but the earth will continue spinning long after we're gone. People will have to evolve or go the way of the dodos.

What we need to guard against is allowing any group of people to be "othered," made to be a scapegoat for "all our problems," and that persecuting and hating them is what will make things better. We instead need to realize we are all of the human race, all of humanity is worthy of respect and that to address any problems, we need to look for solutions that benefit everyone. For those who are incapable of doing that, we need to drown out their voices with truth. There will always be some who are easily led by wannabe authoritarians, but they can be out voiced if we don't stay silent. Silence must never be tolerated in the face of authoritarianism.

Because it would make the president look bad because he was wrong. The virus didn't disappear like magic and the hurricane didn't change course just because Trump said so.

America has a very long history of doing morally questionable dealings.
Why would it surprise you? On another channel, I have been pushing against antisemitism, in an honest question about the hatred for Jewish people. Because being Jewish can be cultural, ethnic, or religious, it’s hard to pin the haters down. So much of it sounds like pure envy surrounding financial success of people who identify, for any combination of the above reasons, as Jewish. When you add to antisemitism the Christian Nationalist movement it gets really murky. These racist identify as Christian, but can’t define Christianity. If you are having a discussion with a catholic, and ask about Mormons, they fall silent. If you are talking to a Baptist, and ask about Catholics, they go silent. If you ask about people who have changed their religious identity, they fall silent.
American Businessmen sided with and backed Hitler.
A lot of alternate histories point to different people having positions of power in an Axis-victory timeline, and a lot of these people either had, or were accused of, Nazi sympathies in the "real world". Charles Lindbergh is a good example; he was a major spokesman of the America First Committee, which basically advocated no American involvement in WWII at all, especially to prop up the British. (Pearl Harbor changed THAT tune.) He believed that Germany's military might would be necessary to protect the white race from "Asians" (which included the Soviets, as he was also an anticommunist - a popular thing to be, then and now), made excuses for Hitler's conquests prior to the outbreak of the war in Europe, used phrases like "Jewish problem", and a bunch of other things that could have come right out of the Nazis' playbook - and his speeches were actually quoted in Germany. Some alternate histories have him as a fascist POTUS, or ambassador to a victorious Nazi Germany.
There's also Father Charles Coughlin, someone that Rachel has mentioned before - the "Radio Priest" whose addresses could have been written by Goebbels and his spin doctors.
In UK too- Lord Rothermere, Lord Londonderry, Oswald Mosley and many of British establishment who admired Hitler's economic achievements and saw him as a bulwark against communism
Let’s not forget Republican Rick Scott (& Ron Johnson, etc.) telling seniors that his first priority is dismantling Social Security and Medicare. He (and his buddies) think that seniors should work until they drop dead on their employer’s floor! If any of these guy had ever done any “real physical labor” they would find out, that for many seniors, working is physically impossible! FYI, Rick Scott stole millions from Medicare during his years as a hospital administrator. Oh, and Republican Senators up for re-election should ask Mr. Scott what happened to all the Republican funds?
Money and power is all they want, no matter how many dead bodies they leave behind.

I read last night that the RNC was throwing big money into the final weeks of the campaign. But it had been reported a month or two ago that the RNC was financially in dire straights (which is when they brought up the question of Rick Scott's handling of the funds). So where has the sudden money glut come from. I understand some deep pockets probably loosened up, and a lot of money is coming from the PACs, but if the RNC is distributing funds, where did they come from?

Not sure what to title what you do Rachel but you're absolutely the best journalist ... How you pick a current or relevant topic and bring threads from seemingly nowhere with your research and weave them into a coherent and fascinating insight into the topic is absolutely amazing .... Unfortunately it goes way over the heads of people who should listen and heed the warnings of history to prevent us all going over the precipice .... Keep it up Rachel!

What I enjoy is her historical background she provides for current day news. Although I was aware of the fact that there were many nazi sympathizers in the U.S. before we entered the war (I'm old and learned about that years ago), I appreciate that she brought that fact to light as many voters alive today most likely are unaware. Her segments are almost as good as a civics history class. Wish more people would listen to her. Her research is flawless.

I'm glad Rachel is taking the time she wants to do these deep dives. I miss seeing her 5 days a week but I appreciate she's more than a news anchor. She's a journalist and historian and we need her research and her very accessible perspective (I bought her book Bag Man about Spiro Agnew and devoured it in 2 days. Grateful I live in Canada when the pandemic hit. Watching the chaos south of us. Was heart breaking. I never really pay attention to American politics, but when Trump had his daily press releases during the pandemic. I was horrified!!!! My far right brother-in-law, a huge T**** supporter, is boiling mad at the CDC for its Covid response. Well, now I can tell him he needs to switch that rage to where it belongs. There's an excellent movie from 1947 called "Gentlemen's Agreement" about this very issue. Gregory Peck starred. It was an important enough issue to risk the reputations of a studio and producer (and Gregory Peck's career) to tackle an unpopular topic. It won Best Picture.

From Canada, Maddow and O'Donnell are my favourites too. They are excellent broadcasters.
As an American, I check her and Brian Tyler Cohen, a few extreme radical Reich pages to balance my world.
But the Hitleresc guy we fired last election, so sadly won't go away. He thinks it's all his. I can't wait for that clear fact check that only a prison commissary is the only thing that's his.

It was used by research teams in every university across the country as a source of standardized, reliable, contemporaneous health statistics.
The MMWR was corrupted starting around January 2020.

More reporters obsessed with Trump? Isn't that most of msnbc? The man has not made a decision that has affected our country in over 18 months, yet this she and this network cover him every week. We have serious problems going on in our country right now. Please cover the problems and leave him alone. Even Obama is trying to tell most of you to do the same.
I think the big issue is that the right has seen a mentality shift whereby the politics aren't rooted in "respecting conservative principles, standing up for the constitution, striving for a more moral America" and a willingness to look across the aisle to work together, but instead about "owning the libs, defiling the constitution if it stands in the way of power, and being outright bigoted and racist because free speech means it's okay"...
Unfortunately, many of the Republicans who said that they were for those ideals the GOP was built upon, and perhaps dignity in the Republican party died with John McCain.. I reckon there are some who behind closed doors don't like what the party's become but they're hopeful that it's a phase that'll pass if the party gains power because somehow that'll allow them to fix the issues from within

Progressive is equal inclusion for all.
I know he had some major issues. He had a romanticized impression of war for example. I start with that because people always have to point out his flaws to me when I post that he is my favorite president. He was exceptional in many ways. He could have lived an easy life rather than a life of service. Even his relatives didn't understand why he didn't hold their entitled views. Why care about the masses of unwashed ruffians. We need more empathy and vision in D.C. like his. Instead, it's full of smart people who don't care and morons who care about imagined conspiracies. I'm pessimistic.

I'm confused by Rachel's calculus that she's more productive doing a podcast than delivering this, her excellent reporting nightly on national television. In a 24 hour news cycle, it's incredibly difficult for the average American who works a steady job every day to pay attention to every single headline. She really is the only person on TV who can report on the news in this way and give you a history lesson at the same time, explaining notable patterns and tell us how and why the subject is important and NOT bore me to tears. She often reports on things that most media does not. And she researches things so well and always provides historical CONTEXT. I wish MSNBC would woo her back and at least give her a deal that would have her in the studio for maybe 2 or 3 days weekly. One day isnt enough.
You do realize that there is an entire writing team producing the same time slot, right? Listen to Alex Wagner and you will hear a lot of Rachel's language coming out of her mouth. The 24-hour news cycle is produced a lot like entertainment, the talking head is less important than the writers and indeed directors.
Rachel Maddow is/was part of the writing team, which boosted her credibility and her authenticity. But only a small but important part has changed.
also provides her own personal spin on “history.” if you ask 6 different people their opinion on an event that occurred most likely the perceptions will be varied and most likely opinions will be varied as well. perception doesn’t equal the truth.

@Troy Talks. Rachel herself explained, in a different video, that her health was deteriorating because she threw herself so intensely into her job. She mentioned crawling under a desk to plug-in something, and before she could get out, seven discs in her spine had ruptured. She had not been taking care of herself physically. That is when she knew she had to cut back. She has been undergoing rigorous physical therapy since then. So please cut her some slack.

I guess you missed Rachel’s reporting that Congress passed legislation requiring the FDA to create a category of over-the-counter hearing aids in 2017, but the Trump administration FAILED to fully implement the law. So, the FDA did not deprive 30 million people of vital hearing services for 5 years, it was the Trump people in the government who did. (This reporting starts just after mark 16:05 in the video.)
This is what we get after three or four decades of systemically dumming down Americans. Reading, writing, history, geography....all of it is and has been wanting for decades. Civics, for one, is a grossly neglected topic. And this greatly saddens me. Because our young people are our future and we have been consistently failing them. We have a lot of catching up to do! It must start in our schools. An example: gender identity is a topic that is pushed and pushed. I do not know a single person that has an issue with a young person trying to find their place and their own identity. But I know many people that have an issue with young peoples' heads being filled with a lot of confusing blabla. Young people will find their way and come into their own if we only give them enough time to grow up! Meanwhile, let us use that time instead to teach them the fundamentals to help them navigate the world they live in. It is the only way to end the tribalism, the division and the rise of antisemitism, fascism!

See, you get it. I was born in 1962. Only 5 or 6 tv channels. At times you would read a book or a magazine cause laurence welk was on. From 50 to 80 americans k -12 were always in the top 2 or 3 in all subjects. Then with cable tv. In 80s it started. In 20 years we fell out of top ten in all subjects. Internet sped things up in 2010 american kids are not in top 20 of anything. Tech has ruined kids for thinking on their own.

And... maybe ask how Trump's son-in-law, Kushner, (who worked in the White House) got a 2 billion dollar loan from the Saudi's as Trump's term ended. Everyone talks about giving oil companies more leases, but they aren't using the leases they have. Here's another question to ask. Where does all that oil they pump go? It goes on the world market to the highest bidder. So, we are being drained of resources so someone can get rich. Here's another question. How did the government get so far in debt under Trump? Sure some of it could have been the covid bailout. But, by ending and drastically reducing taxes on corporations and the super rich, Trump put us trillions in the hole. Then Trump and his appointees used government funds as their personal bank account. In one trip to Mara Lago, the secret service spent 600,000 dollars renting golf carts to follow Trump and his guest around on the golf course. That is just one example. One entire year of Trump's presidency was spent on the golf course. We paid his salary, expenses, and health care for that year not to mention the salaries, fees charged by his resort, and other expenses for Trump's family, the secret service, other politicians, appointees, and cohorts he took to Mara Lago. We are just beginning to get an assessment of those expenditures. But we do know there are many ways in which Trump, his family, and many cohorts grifted from the government funds. Trump even rerouted airforce planes to his resort in Ireland to refuel and stay at his resort (government expense, of course) because the resort was struggling. The list is much longer but you get the point. Republicans were willing to rob the government blind for Trump (a supposed billionaire) but want to do nothing to help students overwhelmed with school loans at high interest rates. Republicans claim it is a tax payer bailout for students. It isn't. Our taxes have nothing to do with it. But, the same Republicans will jump at the chance to give bailouts or tax breaks to large corporations they own stock in or who donate to their campaigns. Covid itself cost the country billions because Trump disbanded the pandemic program designed to give us early warning and preparation for the inevitable pandemic. Then he put a stooge over the NIH to thwart reports and research from the medical professionals so Trump wouldn't "look bad." Over 200,000 people died so Trump wouldn't "look bad."
We are healing as a nation, jobs are up, there's money for infrastructure, trade is resuming, government is starting to function. If we can get the Feds to realize that corporate greed is fueling inflation instead of interest, we'll be in even better shape. As long as we work together and vote for people who will honor their oath of office we'll be ok.

" Fascism " has an expanded meaning today. It has come to include all corporatist thinking. It is generally any type of blending or fusion of corporate and government power. Fascism was the particularly odious form of Corporatism practiced by Mussolini in Italy and by Hitler's Nazis in Germany.
There are other, more liberal, forms though. The corporate Democrats have been pushing their Straussian corporate pseudo-democracy, or Bipartisanship as they brand it, as taught at the University of Chicago ( Obama's alma mater, he 'tweren't no liberal). The woman who was my boss when Reagan was first elected had a sister who was a researcher at the FDA. When Reagan came into office, the memo went around that, in essence, you get to keep your job, but don't do any work.
