The main thing I look for in a dog fight sim is the damage model. I personally think that the more realistic the damage is, the more it feels to being closer to real life. That is why I love 1946. The damage model for that time is amazing. I hate that in some Sim, you have a health bar. If you are flying a mission andtakinge rounds and some lucky bullet hits the right part of the engine or wing and somehow disables your plane, that is probably what would happen in real life. This also means that even if you play the same mission over, it won't be the same game play.
WOW! This is incredible. I'm finally back to flight/combat sims just recently drinking from the fire hose with DCS and IL-2. Found Enigma and many other YT channels that have been super helpful and entertaining. Thanks for this!
We at the DCS black sheep squadron will be watching this with great anticipation. All sounds good and exciting. If the fidelity is on par close with DCS, and we can create our own servers and missions. This will be a great success.
It’s a ww2 plane, I don’t think it needs fidelity. Unless you are interacting with mfds, medium fidelity, like in lots of community mods is perfect. Leave the study simming to the (yawn) hornet players
@@catfunt5583 fidelity for us is in engine management ,navigation as well as the challenging flight model and situations that combine all of these. If you can fly one of these aircraft wide open till it runs out of gas at no consequence that’s a failure to do these era aircraft justice. Has nothing to do with mdfs.
@@Virtual-VMF-214-Black-Sheep "fidelity for us is in engine management" yes, that's also important for WW2, but IL 2 isn't that "FF" either, but you can still have full control of a P-47 engine just like in DCS, only you have to assign keys in IL2
@@HobelDcs yea. That’s fc3. I’ll bind axis’s to controls but if it’s clickable in cockpit it’s far better in these birds. But there needs to be a happy mix or option. Dcs has game mode… but I don’t know a single server that uses it or allows it. I’m completely fine with some aspects not being modeled so we have more aircraft to fly but key functions must be modeled. But this is just me. Some folks like arcade flying.
Awesome interview ! Everything that was discussed was right on point and makes for a very exciting future ! This new pacific sim is exactly what the genre needs ! Well done 👏 🙏
I don't have any emotional connection to the Pacific, but one thing that can make it more appealing is if they capture the beauty of the region and the beauty of flying there. Find a good artist who knows their colors and send them to Hawaii for research. No tech is a replacement for good taste.
Just came across this tonight, somehow completely missed it till now. How exciting! Thank you so much Enigma and Jason for sharing this with the world. I'll hope for the best for Combat Pilot and will happily back it as soon as you'll let us.
I will be more than happy to fly again Wildcat and Zeke as I did in Microprose 1942 The Pacific Air War 30 years ago! Still long way ahead for release day. Till that day DCS and IL2 Sturmovik is a way to go for me.
Last combat flight sim in the theater I played was Aces of the Pacific. I only recently returned to flight sims with DCS. This would be a blast if it happened.
Well asked questions Enigma. And great answers from Jason. Appreciate his willingness to share their ambitions without making promises. Can't wait to see what this turns into
The question of vibe at 17:00 was a really important one, and IMO didn't get a very thorough answer. I'd hesitate to say it was "dodged," but the basic structure of what combat pilot is trying to *do* should still be answerable relatively early. Given Jason's experience and portfolio, I'd expect something similar to Il-2, but that's a pretty wide range of possible products. I'd be very interested to hear more concrete details on what to expect. EDIT: The follow-up at ~35 mins was reassuring, the balance between fidelity and scale can be quite delicate to strike properly and I'm hopeful entropy aero will nail it :)
I didn't try to dodge anything, but saying today, what we will for sure have months and years from now is a fool's errand. If we fail to bring something, will just be called a liar and thief. Been there done that before even when promised things from long time employees who had never failed me before only to face the wrath of upset customers when something didn't pan out. I'm just being realistic and a little careful.
I’ve been waiting for this MS Combat flight sim 2 has been the only flight sim that has been dedicated to the pacific MSCFS2 is over 20yrs old. IL 2 Sturmovic was very good but it was not dedicated to the history. Have levels of difficulty to satisfy the realists, but don’t forget others may just want to fly First then as they improve move on to higher levels of difficulty/realism. Hearing you speak as I write this I have faith you’ll get the visuals and flight physics right. So Dedicate yourselves to the history and brutality of air war. I CANT WAIT TO SEE THIS. I’m so glad someone is doing this. Thank you.
Aces High mentioned, satiation. The island hopping with carrier groups in that game is probably my fondest MP gaming memory. This comment is for engagement purposes only Sent from my iPhone 3
I see the same problem. That can be easily solved in single player, but in multiplayer it will lead to unhistoric missions. However both can be fun anyhow.
Having grown up climbing over war wrecks in Guadalcanal in the 1970's as a kid and then working throughout PNG, I am always looking for a great sim based in the area. IL2-Pacific fighters/1946 was the best to date. I am more than happy to pay for a decent sim. I think Jason has done well in the past and has a passion for this, which is very important. I sincerely hope you develop it for VR. It's the only way to fly................. Best of luck guys and I will be keeping a keen eye out for a release.
Ok first I'm super exited for this sim. I sounds like the dev and i think alike when it comes to the perfect sim. I'm poor but if this can give IL2-1946 carrier battles with a true Falcon 4.0 dynamic campaign with IL2-GB fidelity, damage model and graphics; then I'll happily throw as much money at this sim as I can.
Look, what I am looking for in a flight sim to feel like I was transported to a parallel world where I’m a fighter pilot and it really FEELS like I’m flying and fighting a warbird or a jet. That means it should feel alive I.E. there is activity on the ground, ATC is talking to me, there are other flights, ships sailing around. Etc etc. full fidelity inside the cockpit is nice, but not end all be all
great interview...what missing today sims is the vibe and the feeling that 90s sims had....know days everything is study sims and nothing more...dcs lacks soul...everything is great but sterlite...i dont know...we need music , pictures of briefing rooms, how to live in a carrier...a mess hall things that youl feel that you living in a flatop
Thanks for taking time making this interview and of course Jason for giving as much info as he could. Just a note on graphical things. I really hope the graphics are not tied to any propertiary technology making some users being "left out" because their hardware does not support them or perform worse. Namely it goes down to nVidia and it's technologies. Or should devs go straight Vulkan API? Anyway, waiting a lot for this new sim.
Modern gaming in general has a problem with optimization. I won't be surprised if it requires the latest/most powerful hardware to run. I hope they put serious effort into optimizing the game, as not everyone has new powerful hardware. If anything, better optimization may allow for normal "non-gaming" laptops and portable handheld gaming PCs (like the Steam Deck) to run the game.
Thanks you very much Jason and Enigma. I have high hopes for this, but I have to say, I'm not getting my hopes up too high. Lots of times sims/games I have been waiting for took forever to get to market. Some examples are Duke Nukem Forever, Return to Krondor, and currently Star Citizen. That said, I do have high hopes and I think that the WW2 Pacific theater is the best possible theater for a flight sim. I'm going to make a video about this soon.
I want a combat flightsim were u can be a pilot, walk and go through briefing room and then walk to your airplane and do all your rutine check before flight.
Great interview. Can't wait to even just try flying and doing TOLs on carriers. Please don't forget the USAAF in SW Pacific. (B25 strafers, P38s, etc,....)
For me it's simple. As a former pilot that has flown real aircraft from that era, I want to be in a cockpit that is as close to real as possible, within the limits of sim design of course. Then create an environment designed to the same degree. In short I want to be there. Something close to a "holodeck" would be desirable. If only I could climb out the the cockpit and walk over to the club for a post mission drink. If you can get anywhere close to that, then I would say, "mission accomplished." Before the advent of VR, I quit flying sims because I finally got tired of sitting a room looking at a screen. VR opened a whole new dimension of flight for me as it put me back in those cockpits I remembered. I would rate the HMD as the greatest technical advance to date in the world of flight sims. It's the only way I fly. I tell you what would really make a sim come to life are the unique odors peculiar to the aircraft of that era. Scarred, corroding, aluminum, zinc chromate primer, nitrate/butyrate dope, oiled wood, vulcanized rubber, worn leather, quilted padding, 80-150 octane avgas, mil-spec 5606 hydraulic fluid, 60-90 wt burnt lubricating oil and grease. These odors bring back memories to those who have been there and would add a unique perspective and another level of realism to those trying it out for the first time. Climb into any WWII aircraft and those odors are still there. Not sure how this could be programmed into a sim, but if it could be bottled . . .
We need fresh sim., pacific, good optimalization with newer engines, and most importantly MP fun. I am very excited about news and how high fidelity and also scale they are planning to do. just thought of taking of from carrier with friends to cover bombers going to attack island or carrier group is so exciting.
Truth about the Pacific. I still remember when Pacific Fighters dropped, and then the merge patch a year later. Absolutely unstoppable as a game, and I played it until just this last year, having started IL2 all the way back to Ace Expansion Pack. I turned my back in IL2 Great Battles the instant they said they weren't doing it due to lack of documentation for Japanese aircraft. Their original mission statement was to be as 1946 was: Global. They won't get another cent out of me until they do. I am very excited about Combat Flight Sim, the Pacific was the end of the battleship mindset and seated carrier warfare.
Honestly I missed this. I was aware he left 1C but that this new sim was announced went somewhat past me. Sounds like an interesting project with huge potential. Then again it also is according to this interview 4 to 5 years away. Anyway bookmarked the website and wish you guys the best of skill/luck with this project.
Just looking at the screenshots I’d say you’re on the right track. I’m licking my chops. Here’s some suggestions. There’s a lot of history in the Pacific Theater. Make several campaigns get the history right! Keep adding them after you’ve put them on the market. Listening to you talk while I’m writing this I can tell you understand the nature of this part of the war. Stay true to the history in the campaign mod and you can’t go wrong.
There’s a guy called CH who shows his models on the Grim Reapers channel. His models are next level and he has really researched and knows his stuff. I bet he would be a great researcher but also great at modelling
I just watched your MiG 23 video and I hope it comes out soon I think Cold War can youse a few more aircraft i think there was someone making a English electric lightning module but the last update was 2 years ago I would find it cool if someone made like an f102 delta dagger , f106 delta dart or a weaponized boulton Paul p.111
F-8J Crusader, F-104(A?), A-7(E?) Corsair II, Su-17, MiG-17F, and A-6(E?) are ALL also confirmed to be in development. It's gonna be a long time before all (or even most) of those are in DCS, but lots more cold war content is in the pipelines of various developers
The goal is to have parts of it well before then, but massive fully realized product takes time. Other sims have been worked on continuously for well over a decade.
The first Il2 demo blew my mind. Just flying the P39 and FW190 blew my mind. Oleg Maddox revolutionized WW2 flight swimming. Looking forward to Combat Pilot. The 1C has lost their way with the consumer and have no clue what their market wants. VR and motion platform support should be there from the start.
Because it is Brother! MSCFS2 touched on it. Flight sims since that delved isn’t the pacific didn’t really get into the history and campaigns. That’s what’s been missing.
Focus on the most accurate unbiased development of flight modeling and associated physics modelling of all that pertains to combat fight simming. The advanced graphics are a given.
I am actually a fan of a subscription model. With that said, the fact that this is being planned as a 10 year project with a new engine from day 1 is really good. The current sims, at no fault of their own, sort of stumbled into what they are today and have a lot of baggage from their engines. Not a developer but just my general sense of being a player.
@@Enigma89 well we will see what happens with this game cuz it could easily fall into the same situation, its barely a game at this point so im not getting too excited yet and like he said, the MP aspect isnt gonna be a priority until year 3 of development so currently theres really no reason to get hyped up about it, its kinda like being excited for your birthday tahts still 11 months away, kinda pointless.
It really depends on what he means by subscription. If its for completely optional perks (like cosmetics or earlier access) or added content like a battlepass or whatever, fine. If its "you can't access this game unless you pay X amount per month", I'm out, regardless of how good the final product is.
If you build it they will come. If you add a first person shooter element or ground vehicle element. You would open up too a wider audience. Might not be a gamble as much. Also what people want is options. When I get tired of one thing I can do something different.
All flight sims to date are missing one thing - LEGS ! U got to be able to walk around - watch the crew strap the bombs, load the ammo and the maintenance be performed, climbing in to the cockpit and strapping in - all animated in 3d world. Crew has to be life like, the airports highly detailed - mission brief area - and all the other important details such as refueling, tires, propeller swap and engine maintenance, all rendered in 3d world - with crew actually performing these tasks after each mission if needed. This is what is missing from combat sims, its never been done correctly to date. Players have to be able to wake up from their bunk bed, walk outside have a smoke and go for a walk just to look at the war angel sitting in the hangar - being able to run ur hand on it - sort of speak !
Since getting into cold war on Enigma's server i've been hooked. I've never tried this era's focus but to start on a brand new game would be good for me i think, super interested. One to watch for sure. Good interview Enigma.
Prop planes are really fun, for me even more fun than jet combat. Additionally the Wildcat and Zero is a very classic match up and bombing ships is really fun
@@Enigma89 The ship attacks would be hella fun, also there are some cool aircraft. Maybe i should check out this type of thing but i've no idea where to start, thats why a new game is so interesting for someone new to that, like me.
I don’t know, WW2 feels over saturated and yet for Cold War, early jets, it’s just DCS and that is it. Would love early jets like the F-15A, etc . DCS has shown how popular it is
They should be the ones to make the main engine for all new combat flight sims. I would love to them team up with Drydock to make it possible to enter aircraft in Task Force Admiral.
Great interview. I assume we are looking at at least five years before we get a truly viable, fully baked single player & multiplayer sim. That combined with Falcon 5 probably taking a similar amount of time saddens me that we are probably stuck with simming status quo for the next half decade.. but it is what it is.
Using Unreal engine 5.3+ is a no-brainer, hopefully the physics will keep up with the much improved graphics (not only aircraft physics, but most objects in the world should be physicalized as well to greatly increase both immersion and replayability factor).
And zero optimization for anyone who is stuck with older/weaker systems... less accessibility will hurt the simming community. One of the reasons why Worse Torture (War Thunder) is so popular, is because it actually has a somewhat decent level of optimization while still offering good enough graphics. It's just a shame Gayjin does nothing good with it, instead choosing to milk players for maximum "profit".
What I want from a game: First person, survival mode like DayZ, giant world procedually and satellite image generated like microsoft flightsim, ground combat with infantry and vehicles, naval combat with ships, subs and air combat with helos and planes, a giant combined arms sandbox that can feel like dcs(sim), dayz(survival), battefield/arma(seamless combined arms), eve online(economics), warthunder(tanks) and truck driver simulator(logistics) all mixed in one masterclass game/sim with *zero* artificial balancing.

@@Virtual-VMF-214-Black-SheepHear hear! Still waiting for an intertwined thermal/engine/damage model to even approach CloD's in a more modern package
@@Virtual-VMF-214-Black-Sheep "fidelity for us is in engine management"
yes, that's also important for WW2, but IL 2 isn't that "FF" either, but you can still have full control of a P-47 engine just like in DCS, only you have to assign keys in IL2
Cool!
I bought IL-2 and LOMAC at a store. Pretty sure I got WW2OL in a box too. Ahh, the old days!!!
really excited for this project, as a history enthusiast I've always wanted to do the pacific theater in a realistic sim with VR
Combat flight simulator 2 was amazing and I spent many hours playing that. A pacific theater is a real good choice.
Oh yes Have been waiting for this for years, count me in :)
Awesome interview ! Everything that was discussed was right on point and makes for a very exciting future ! This new pacific sim is exactly what the genre needs ! Well done 👏 🙏
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
Ive been wanting a Pacific flight sim. +1 customer
I don't have any emotional connection to the Pacific, but one thing that can make it more appealing is if they capture the beauty of the region and the beauty of flying there. Find a good artist who knows their colors and send them to Hawaii for research. No tech is a replacement for good taste.
Really good interview from both sides, Q&A on spot...exceeded my expetations!
Like listening new Jason when no 1C on his back.
To hear the business model discussion, I’m happy to hear the positivity.
Last combat flight sim in the theater I played was Aces of the Pacific. I only recently returned to flight sims with DCS. This would be a blast if it happened.
My first flight sim ever, and it did a great job making you feel grounded in the war despite low fidelity graphics!
Also, my first flight sim ever and the campaign was so satisfying for the early 90s
Thank you for setting up this interview, this was very informative
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beyond excited
Thanks for making this happen, I can’t wait
The fact that Jason is looking 15 years out sounds extremely promising!
I know I'm late but wow, what a great interview! Eagerly awaiting this game.
Well asked questions Enigma. And great answers from Jason. Appreciate his willingness to share their ambitions without making promises. Can't wait to see what this turns into
Clean slate, plus core competency, plus cta goh devs is a very exciting combination.
Thanks for the interview Enigma! Can’t wait to see this come to fruition (knock on wood)
Great interview! Thanks Enigma!
I remember playing Microsoft combat flight simulator 2 ww2 Pacific theater and holy shit was that fun. I'm really hoping this comes to fruition.
I got that impression too he was dodgy about a question that was essentially asking about a roadmap lol
This comment is for engagement purposes only

My fear is the looooong flights. Pacific stuff always seemed to have long flights to get to something. Flying 100 mi for a 5 min attack on a carrier.
Carrier takeoffs and landings would be cool though
I see the same problem. That can be easily solved in single player, but in multiplayer it will lead to unhistoric missions. However both can be fun anyhow.
Definitely need some "warp" or time acceleration features.
Enigma you are a gem in this space our interest align perfectly. Thanks for this interview I thouroughly enjoyed it
Having grown up climbing over war wrecks in Guadalcanal in the 1970's as a kid and then working throughout PNG, I am always looking for a great sim based in the area.
From a businessman point of view, he seems to have done his homework very well.
I am actually quite excited for this now.
Agreed! CFS 2 did really well with that
Thanks for taking time making this interview and of course Jason for giving as much info as he could.
YOOO GET HYPE!!!!
NEW COMBAT FLIGHT SIM!!!!!
NOT A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!
WW2!!!!!!!!
PACIFIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks enigma
Neat, nice to hear from a new sim.
Looking forward to the video.
This sounds so cool. A shame we'll have to wait a while, but it sounds like it'll be worth it.
I can't see the gamble not paying off. The market is hungry for something new. Build it and the people will come.
From war thunder to il2. Il2 to DCS recently. I'm committed to trying combat pilot. 💪✌️
Amazing interview with great questions and amazing answers!
Combat Pilot seems like it will be a big one...
This could finally mean we get a flyable a6m zero, literally my biggest want.
Heartwarming news :D
For me it's simple. As a former pilot that has flown real aircraft from that era, I want to be in a cockpit that is as close to real as possible, within the limits of sim design of course. Then create an environment designed to the same degree. In short I want to be there. Something close to a "holodeck" would be desirable. If only I could climb out the the cockpit and walk over to the club for a post mission drink. If you can get anywhere close to that, then I would say, "mission accomplished."
Before the advent of VR, I quit flying sims because I finally got tired of sitting a room looking at a screen.
Not sure how this could be programmed into a sim, but if it could be bottled . . .
Excited to have discovered this project.
Awesome, thank you! Also barbed wire has me hooked on Ostfront. So this is a great combination of people
Been waiting 9 years for il-2 GB Pacific theater. There's NO indication that'll ever happen. Ditto for DCS.
Hell I was just waiting for the damn Burma theater. European Devs gonna Europe I guess.
Awesome interview. Can't wait to try it.
Gates of Hell Liberation is going to be a day one purchase for sure.
We need fresh sim., pacific, good optimalization with newer engines, and most importantly MP fun. I am very excited about news and how high fidelity and also scale they are planning to do. just thought of taking of from carrier with friends to cover bombers going to attack island or carrier group is so exciting.
I would pay $60 for 1946 with full vr support.
Great stuff enigma! Ty
There’s a guy called CH who shows his models on the Grim Reapers channel. His models are next level and he has really researched and knows his stuff. I bet he would be a great researcher but also great at modelling
Since IL-2 has still not gone into the PAC theater I think this is great news.
you had me at pacific
The big P word
Well we now know it will be within 5 years that we get this sim. Cool
The goal is to have parts of it well before then, but massive fully realized product takes time. Other sims have been worked on continuously for well over a decade.
Years ago, I had bought the game Pacific Fighters. This was a good game for its time.
Very excited for this...interesting re scale vs fidelity etc...
I hope it’ll be possible to pilot the strike aircraft as well as the fighters, I would love to pilot a Dauntless dive bomber.
Oh, hell yes. I can't wait! Take my money!
I can't wait for CP to come out so that the community can find reasons to nitpick it, it's gonna be hype
Yes will be a blast.
if this game has a subscription style model im not touching it witha 10 foot pole, im very skeptical
If quality is there, why not. I'd rather pay and have a good platform instead of waiting 10 years for ED to catch up with 1998 Falcon 4.0
Looked at how subscription base has helped WWII online right Enigma. All that money and pretty much still the same ole shit
Players have to be able to wake up from their bunk bed, walk outside have a smoke and go for a walk just to look at the war angel sitting in the hangar - being able to run ur hand on it - sort of speak !
nice interview
Thank you kindly
DCS has shown how popular it is
@@HighAspect "early jets" >F-15
They should be the ones to make the main engine for all new combat flight sims. I would love to them team up with Drydock to make it possible to enter aircraft in Task Force Admiral.
Great interview.
I assume we are looking at at least five years before we get a truly viable, fully baked single player & multiplayer sim. That combined with Falcon 5 probably taking a similar amount of time saddens me that we are probably stuck with simming status quo for the next half decade.. but it is what it is.
I am in Jason you go!!
What I want from a game: First person, survival mode like DayZ, giant world procedually and satellite image generated like microsoft flightsim, ground combat with infantry and vehicles, naval combat with ships, subs and air combat with helos and planes, a giant combined arms sandbox that can feel like dcs(sim), dayz(survival), battefield/arma(seamless combined arms), eve online(economics), warthunder(tanks) and truck driver simulator(logistics) all mixed in one masterclass game/sim with *zero* artificial balancing.
kunos did a really good job creating a racing sim with unreal, really looking forward to seeing what a high fidelity flight sim can look like in unreal
It doesn’t perform that great tho
I hope there are low fidelity options I have both in dcs and actually prefer low fidelity aircraft
