  • On my vacation in Madagascar I shot this film. It is about the trucking in Madagascar.
    You can also see how they repair trucks with minimal tools. And you see which trucking souvenirs I bought.

    The thing I remember about driving in Madagascar:as usual one tries to gain momentum going downhill to make it uphill after the valley.... but in the valley there usually is a bridge to cross a river.... the bridge’s ramps are dangerous if existant at all (in fact:like the bridge itself...) so going downhill you have to make sure you have no speed left at the bridge down there.... and climb the hill afterwards in 1’st or 2’nd gear....
    Worked there in ‘89-‘90.... beautiful country,great people,fantastic all over.... we were crying like little kids when leaving the place...
    MADAGASCAR YOU ARE IN MY HEART FOREVER!!!!

    The truck that was tipped over was a 1980s M.Benz NG ( the off road version of the SK there are many SK's in this video)
    The DAF 3200 1982 DAF 95 XF 1997 some nice old bullnose L1114 M.Benz 1960s great to see as there my favourites and there still alot working over in Chile just over the Fiherenana river was what looked like an old Fiat the short white one from the 1960s the Renault Premium first time round 1993 the one they were restoring was a M.Benz NG great to see them doing that!
    The one parked off the road with Geneve on it was a 1831 M.Benz Actors MK1 1996 the truck model are great i'd love to buy some for my model room and the bullnose in the traffic is a Volvo N12. Most people don't think of Madagascar of a place were you can see so many types of trucks it's the place for me.
    What made you make this video have you been into trucks like me from age 5 ? Keep the great videos coming...

    Very well made video, the shots of the truck in the grassland hills were beautiful.
    Like the mix of trucks from the late sixties up to relative modern ones, all having second or third life.
    Apart from European Mercedes I noticed the Brazilian made "rundhaubers".
    The Mercedes truck in the capture with the text heavy trucks, steep hills and small engines didn't have a small engine, actualy according to the sound its a V8, most likely an OM422, having 330-360hp which doesn't seem a lot of power today but was very decent in the early 1980s when these trucks were built.

    I love to see Africans working really hard despite lacking machines and modern tools to pick the trucks. That’s ingenuity at its finest. I like the weather there, the trees and its tropical climate in general. I think the government of Madagascar can make a real difference in the lives of its citizens by expanding the roads, put in place proper traffic signs, lights and regulations, especially in providing safe workshops for some of the roadside mechanics.

    At about 0:20 in the video traffic is British mode but later on all traffic on two way roads is North American mode ... I'm confused, which is correct?

    • @karlosbricks2413
      @karlosbricks2413 6 лет назад +1

      They drive on the right in Madagascar, the Napoleon side of the road.I think in the clip aroun 0:22 they are simply passing some parked trucks, at least where I live, sometimes places have parking where you cross opposing traffic to park because there is only parking on one side of the road.
