Nono Freudian slip, though from my perspective I think it depends on the characters and their factions
I'd expect Shu to be more modest but poor
Wei to be more Regal and less modest
and Wu to be more mixed
      Nanman should be extreamely unmodest
Dong Zhuo's women should be extremely sensually dressed
Yellow Turban should be only wearing cloth
Jin should be slightly more regal but less modest than Wei
others should be mixed based on circumstances and positions of the map they occupy

@KoeiKollection I feel that one of the things that, ‘scratch that itch in pir brains from 3, which is what I grew up on as well then moved to 4-II, is the overall ancient Japan aesthetic. HOT TAKE: I think luffy from pirate warriors should get his own anime series

  • @miguelguzman80
    @miguelguzman80 5 месяцев назад +28

I think the handling of female characters in samurai warriors is better because being a japanese studio they have an edge when telling the history of the warring states, since they are japanese they have a better handling and more indepth knowledge of that story. I also think that all the mistakes they make with the storytelling on the dynasty warriors comes from a worst understanding of that historic era so they end up introducing all these fictional characters and anime tropes on the series because of that lack of understanding, but i do think they have gotten better with the years and my hot take is dw9 actually has a very interesting story when its not being held back by all the jank, the terrible gameplay and sugarcoating of historical events it may be the most accurate depiction and also the most creative one in the entire series some cutscenes really hit hard and make you think, but then the actual gameplay hits and it kills the story for u.

Sun Shangxiang got done dirty. In the PS2 era, she was a strong-willed tomboy. But in the next games and their attempt to give more personality to characters, she became another Liu Bei simp.

Yeah, it gets me as well. I love SSX in DW3. But later on, she just head over heels for Liu Bei. That completely changes the character. From a pretty unique character to become just another Liu Bei simp. But I love her stomp Musou in later games. So it kinda meh for me.
BTW in history, she did not love Liu Bei in anyway. Her marriage is just a political marriage. And she even tries taking Liu Bei's son to Wu.

    • @フランス人の熊さん
      @フランス人の熊さん 3 месяца назад

@annhoc incomplete, she tried to assassinate Liu Bei but we're talking about both history and the Romance, and the fact that Lady Sun marriage was a plot from Sun Ce and Sun Quan to get him murdered. What you obviously cut because of your dislike about Liu Bei simping is that Lady Sun finally loved Liu Bei and gave herself death few after Yiling battle. Don't cut off full story because of hatred, that's lame and give Musou fan a bad picture from the outside...

    • @annhoc
      @annhoc 3 месяца назад

@@フランス人の熊さん huh, I cut it huh? I not saying it cause I only need to provide the point is that she now simping for Liu Bei in history. And of course it is a plot by Wu. That is why I said it political marriage. After kid nap Liu Bei's son she returns to Wu. There is no romance at all in history. The way they make her simp for Liu Bei too much after 3 just makes her lose her unique personality. It just like the same for everyone on Shu side.
Edit: and btw she did not suicide after the Yiling battle. The version that she kills herself after Yiling's battle is in novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

The only thing i like about DW 6 is the Special Attack mechanic. The fact you can set up fire in the base, using Rockfall on elevated ground to make a rockslide and calling Volley of Arrow(i usually use it on narrow places) really make me feel like a Warrior & Strategist rather than just go around and try to kill every enemy as fast as i can.

  • @tyrongkojy

14:40 For me, the departure began in Dy 6 with how armies were presented. The game franchise has been described as "1 v 1000", but truthfully in those earlier titles it was rather hard to get 1000 kills. After 6 it became SUPER easy. What's more, up to 5 the grunts were presented in units. Three or four privates, and a lieutenant or sergeant. Hell, in 5, kill the sergeant, and the grunts retreat. They were also seemingly arranged, ie spawned, on the battlefield in a somewhat "realistic" manner, compared to the newer random mass of bodies. Couple that with the hallways the maps have become, as opposed to the illusion (yes, I know they've always had the hallway issue, but they hid it MUCH better before) of wide open battlefields in prior titles and it just feels more mindless and less impressive. And yes, I know 9 had a literal wide open battlefield, but that's a great example of why one needs the ILLUSION of open fields, and not ACTUAL open fields.
Also why the fear of cavalry!? They used to spawn everywhere in titles prior to Dy 6 and Sam 3! Now you'll have like ONE level with ONE group of cavalry! Bowmen also don't spawn on watch towers anymore, it seems. like, the towers are still there, but... why? I can climb them usually, but nobody's up there. They don't do anything anymore. So much is just a relic of prior titles, but is unutilized. We even still have the base system that started in Dy5, but they're just worse and more generic in every way.
Another point I just thought of. After Dy6 the games basically began to be a "beeline for the officer and move on" kind of style. The base enemies are such a non threat, even at low levels. Yes, the older titles BECAME that, but at low levels it was HIGHLY unwise to ignore the armies. Now, who cares? Unless they have archers who can stun you, they don't do any real damage to you. Your horse barrels through them like they're nothing. Basically, you start TOO powerful. Hell, even generic officers have just become what the old grunt soldiers were in the older titles. I guess this ties into what Is aid about the 1 v 1000 thing up there, but it bleeds into the officers, as well.

  • @ShinOrashi
    @ShinOrashi 5 месяцев назад +7

HOT TAKE: I think the switch to the "1 vs. 1000" formula introduced in the PS3 era was a net negative for the series. . .
I understand that due to hardware limitation of the PS2/XBOX, you couldn't have many NPCs on screen at once, to justify a lot of the power fantasy shenanigans we're familiar with in the current warriors titles (like doing a musou attack that nukes the screen), but it forced KOEI to innovate on it's gameplay by focusing on more fluid combat, and more responsive AI, instead of being surrounded by large hordes of enemies that can 2 shot you
I also loved how in early warriors titles you're encouraged to fight alongside allies early on, until you've strengthened your character a bit, but even then, things can be difficult if you go into a situation thinking you can just mindlessly button mash, or spam musou attacks that kill hundreds of NPCs in one shot, with zero effort
You can call me nostalgic if you want, but after recently playing DW8 Empires, and the PS2 Warriors titles, I definitely prefer a gameplay loop where I feel like a character out of a wu xia martial arts film, than a shonen protagonist

  • @Josephll64
    @Josephll64 5 месяцев назад +15

I absolutely love Sun Shangxiang as a character and I rather enjoy her single target stomp musou. Most targeted musou just feel more useful in later entries as peons have stopped mattering. That, and the range on even normal attacks are rather large. DW2 is almost an entirely different game that's hard to compare with the others as its designed with you needing to push with your forces rather than striking out on your own.
I still disagree with Kunoichi in the Samurai Warriors series. She has been kind of a crutch for Yukimura that wouldn't feel needed if we weren't used to her being there, and if they instead fleshed out Yukimura's relationships with those around him at an earlier point in time. I guess I don't mind with DW as much since those're multiple steps removed from history being loosely based on a novel which played fast and loose with history, politics, and mythology to begin with.

    • @KoeiKollection
      @KoeiKollection  5 месяцев назад +6

Totally get the Kunoichi part, tbh I think most people either fall in one camp or the other with her haha

Lu Bu is a wild animal who just does whatever the heck he likes and goes crazy just simply to appease himself by testing his might against the strongest fighters, loyalty and strategy mean nothing to him, Keiji is kinda like him in a way, Tadakatsu is more on the hardened and very disciplined side of things, dedicates himself to training and mastering the “Way of the Warrior”, kind of like Yu Jin’s character personality in his DW8 introduction but not exactly to that degree, he won’t fight without meaning.
I wouldn’t say Tadakatsu has no personality he still is scary to face but he just doesn’t go around bragging with the “I’m the strongest” in your face vibe.

I feel like Oichi is quite a complex character in the first three games because I felt like she was used wayyy more in those games rather than in 4 and 5 plus she had more screen time in the first 3 to tell her story whereas now I sometimes feel like I’m not seeing more personality from her but I think it’s because the rosters so large now and they try to show off the new characters but it sucks because I really love the OG characters like Oichi, I feel like the first two games told every characters story the best.

Well, if we look at the period they're based on, The Three Kingdoms, or rather Three States since each of them claimed the title of 皇帝: _Huangdi_ (Emperor), from 185-280 AD after the Jin Dynasty's short-lived Unification, there are so many important figures Involved in this period. I guess it's kinda difficult to focused on certain characters without neglecting the other ones.
I'm not sure what novel or book the Sengoku Period of Japan is based on, just as how Dynasty Warriors is based on the historical novel ROTK. Interestingly, the novel itself was written during near the end of the Mongol-ruled Yuan Dynasty, and the start of the Ming.,which was the same dynasty, Toyotomi tried to conquer, but we don't talk about it, not even in the game, for obvious reason.

I didn't like Zhuge Liang, his movement wasn't as exciting, his voice lines was mostly him praising himself or how it was in his plan all along, and above all, and he was mentioned in practically every single Shu campaign, 'if only Zhuge liang was here', or 'its all thanks to Zhuge liang.' They did tone it down in the later series when they introduce more tacticians, but the earlier games were bad.

Not a hot take but seemingly an irony. Nobunaga's Ambition series, a game intended to only encapsulate the world of Nobunaga's clan/court manages to fill in stories from other daimyos wherever and whenever possible. On the contrary, from SW4 II onwards ( currently at this point in time SW5 ), the storyline and the world was utterly reduced to merely revolves around Oda and Tokugawa retainers for the most part. What a time we live in.

Hot take 1: in musou modes, historical characters should be limited to battles they actually took part in, or at *least* battles they were alive for.
Hot take 2: Lu Bu at Hu Lao gate should be an absolute nightmare. I'm talking 1-3 hits to kill you and he has seventeen health bars kind of stuff. As it stands he varies from "okay I shouldn't be here" to "oh you're sort of just a slightly strong officer, neat"
3: I'd be okay with historical figures taking on more aspects of their historical depiction. I know Zhang He's campy nature is basically part of DW's DNA at this point, but I also can't help but picture the dude spinning in his grave at his posthumous depictions 😂.
Tepid take: if Koei releases musou games without English voice acting, we should stop buying them. It's the bare minimum and allows for so much more immersion because you don't have to constantly scan text popping up on the screen mid-battle. I can remember someone saying "officer x is at base y" far easier than I can recall it being one of thirty text prompts constantly scrolling by.

Bit of Nostalgia here, but two things I miss from the musou games (both SW and DW franchise) - 1. create a warrior, I know the Empire spin offs are the new home for this, and have it expanded like DW8 Empires you could even make your own horse. But to me that isn't as satisfying as playing your character through the scenario battles. 2. This may be a hot take but I miss the DW4 Duels. With a small cutscene and a QTE you'd enter a 1v1 battle that allowed you to swiftly deal with an enemy officer to story wise capture or kill them off. Sure, it was a bit jarring to be taken out of the main map, and you could fight a buffed version of the officer. It was hard, and occasionally unfair, but the resulting cutscene that accompanied your victory satisfying for me. Especially slaying Lu Bu. That man was a monster in DW4, and having the satisfaction of watching him give up the ghost after a hard grueling fight is unparalleled for me.
The hotter take that I have is, in DW7 I like the inclusion of the Jin kingdom. Its story gave the franchise a bit of grounding and finality that wasn't there in the previous entries. The Age of Heroes that the other three are based in had to come to an end, and Jin witnesses it. It's there to complete the story of the Three Kingdoms. It felt like a nice change to have a "real" ending in the DW franchise.

Hot take? We need a combination of a mainline Dynasty Warriors game with the Strikeforce hyper mode system. If we throw in materials and bonuses, etc. pull that from Hyrule Warriors. So stats, items, weapons and leveling from classic series, hyper mode from Strikeforce, materials for skill tree from Hyrule Warriors (as an example) and tack on 1,000 KO grants another item slot like 5 Empires.

Maybe it's just me but i really like the difficulty in dynasty warriors 2, sure it's unfair to some point and the maps can be like 1 hour long each, doesn't help that you play them in repeat because of how short the individuals campaigns are and the fact that you have select saves instead of just been able to free saving any time you want. But to me, i feel it really makes you feel like you are fighting a gruesome war, each battle is just a fight to move ahead our troops and the enemy peons having an actually good ia incentives you to reorganize your strategy and retreat more often. You are not a One man killing machine, you are just a strong piece in the strategy board and you should know when to fall back in order to keep fighting back. im really loving it, it has aged decently well

DW2: KT getting their feet into a console game with Jack and slash, was good
DW3: the OG of them all imo, great story & good characters all around from troops, rat packs, difficulty, sub officers and designs..it’s an instant classic now imo in the PS2 era
DW4: love the new added characters and the new stages and storyline, but the weapon leveling kinda threw me off instead of earning it by beating stages and completing missions like in DW3 which was more fulfilling; also love how they added the costume sets for characters instead of just having 1 outfit, also made it easier to find sub officers on the map details and the orb items
DW5: 5 was almost the same as DW4 but with some more added characters and some new stages. Some new designs and all but nothing particular big change outside of a few character edition
DW6: I hate it, total revamp of everything which was so dumb imo, they literally just mix and match characters to new weapons without any thought into it and ran away with it, skill tree was okay imo but the revamped made it weird
DW7&DW8: imo was a rehaul to mix old school DW with new school DW a combination of DW5& DW6 ish to make DW7&DW8
DW8CE: this game imo was literally nothing but easy hack and slash and was all about kills and no difficulty..like the maps was literally confusing to look at and it was just 1v1000 troops skirmish were so weak, barely anyone hitting each other and the rat packs weren’t even there to oppose you
DW9: I don’t want to talk about it, but it was just a huge map with so many empty things..tired of collecting items/plants & tired of hunting & so tired of exploring the maps and the waypoints..couldn’t even play as my character and had to use Sun Jian to start then transition to Sun Quan then played Zhou Tai; once I played up to the point where they wouldn’t let my place as Zhou Tai anymore I literally just did nothing but waypoints and hunting tigers and bears and wolves & explore the maps riding into jungles forests and deserts
DWO: I mean they dropped an announcement like yesterday or the other day and it’s coming out in 2025 but idk, it looks good but I’ll have to actually see more info to make a real comment about it, because it’s like another DW9E reskinned hehe

I've only recently gotten into the Muso genre, and even then specifically through Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors. Of those, there are two glaring issues with FE Muso that I've noticed.
The first is the Fire Emblem weapon triangle, which is a fair enough inclusion considering the material being adapted. To those unfamiliar, the concept is lite Rock-Paper-Scissors where picking the correct weapon (Sword>Axe>Spear>Sword) will give you an advantage (mostly in damage dealt and how easily the Stun Gauge appears). The issue is that the game loads your roster to the brim with sword users to pick from (13 out of a cast of 32), but even by purchasing all the DLC you only have access to merely 4 axe users, one of which is a clone of another, and there are bonus missions which explicitly dictate "axes only" which, by the way, all missions have a maximum deployment cap of 4 units.
The other issue, and one that seems to be not the case in other games going by your videos, is that common troops seem worthless in FE Muso. Generic enemy commanders might give you some trouble, but your own troops don't do much of anything. Any progress, keep or outpost captured will have to be done by your heroes. It was a (pleasant) surprise to see the common troops hold the line and even complete objectives without my assistance when I started playing Hyrule Warriors.

    Hot Takes:
Shu & Wei is too overrated in the DW series due to the ROTK story
Shu is seen as a benevolence kingdom because they were led by a Han Chinese (Liu Bei) to restore the Han Dynasty
Wei seen as the overpowered kingdom who fights to keep everyone in check while they try to become king (Cao Cao)
    &
Wu a small meddling kingdom who tries to backstab Shu & Wei only because they make Wu sound so dumb who doesn’t have any conscience of their own, Battle of Chi Bi (Red Cliff) happened only because Shu convinced them to join them, Fan Castle (Wei was gonna attack Guan Yu yet Wu eliminated Guan Yu, then Shu hates Wu for killing Guan Yu when Wei was the reason why Guan Yu flee)
I get that it’s about ROTK story, but it would be nice to have some fictional scenarios to expand the stories, like the XL type game modes

The characters from Samurai Warriors feel more fleshed out and their unique personalities shine through - heck, the characters have conversations with the opposing factions while they are on the battlefield. In Dynasty Warriors, that privilege is only afforded to certain characters while the rest are relegated to support characters who barely say anything on the battlefield other than "enemy officer defeated".

Sun shang Xiang is the best character in the series simply for the fact that her move set is consistent in almost every single game and she is in every dw game, she should be the poster child of the series at this point

fate extella link is better than both samurai warriors and dynasty warriors games, better gameplay, flashier combat, unique mechanics and yet so simple
sw empire games are better than dw empire ones

I think Zhao Yun is pretty much the perfect candidate for poster boy. He’s been there since the beginning too, and he’s always had his defining spear. He also has enough information (in the story) known to stretch out and make a cool (even if a little boring) character. On the flip side, he isn’t super defined like someone like Guan Yu where he can only really be one thing. He is in a large part of the entire Rotk story and has the status of one of shu’s five tiger generals. He has (only really one) hero moment where he saves Liu Shan in Changban that’s really dramatic.
Sun Shangxiang unfortunately has fallen into the same problem as other female characters in dw, that the majority of their role and screen time is to be a cheerleader for their husband. I don’t remember her always being like this, but she felt like she was in 8 at least. There was also that time she had a bow, although 6 had a lot of weird choices with movesets. Ma Chao with a great sword, Xiahou Dun with the spiked club, etc. Some were good, like Zhou Yu with his staff, but a lot of them kinda sucked.

@@erurice1797 of course Zhao Yun is an og character but only because he has a spear doesn't mean he stayed the same, his move sets have changed almost 5 time if I'm not mistaken compare with Sun Shang Xiang whose move sets only changed 2.5 times, my point was never about the weapons, it was about move sets
but I completely agree with you on anything else, Zhao Yun being some where between famous and not famous enough is really helpful for his image as the poster boy
and sadly you are right about Sun Shang Xiang as well, the only times that she was remotely interesting was in dw5 and dw6 and kinda wo1
and yeah her bow sucks in dw6 and stike force, almost everyone sucked in that game

Dynasty Warriors 6 still has the best AI, at least on the PC, that's the only version I've played
AI generals in 6 actually duel on horseback for a bit until one gets knock off, then the other will jump down and continue the fight on foot. After the fight end, they'll call their horse and ride on to the next fight. Recent games, they just forget their horse even existed after getting knock off. And the soldiers actually try to hit you, a lot.
Another thing is the bases and siege. The bases have some strategic play like burning it to lower enemy health. And the siege feels like actual siege with ladder, boulder guys, archer towers, ram.

    1) there's one particular female character with the "protector" mindset that I absolutely love and I think it suits her the best, and it's Lianshi. She just has those "you mess with my family - I put a bolt into your face" hardcore vibes which also tend to align very well with the close-knit familial bonds in Wu. For me, it just works, which is funny, because I don't like Wu characters all that much (the exceptions are Lianshi, Gan Ning and Zhou Tai).
    2) Speaking of Gan Ning, I get that people are nostalgic about his old sword, and haters gonna hate, but I think his design and moveset peaked in 6, with twin daggers. The fast swings, the bells ringing, the flips and the frantic unpredictable movement were just top notch.

I'm genuinely surprised that DW6 was so poorly recieved and a lot of the character changes were mostly washed away. I understand that the change was a bit strange as well as cut content based on how many characters you can play. But it was cool and fun and I was excited for new content and new graphics. I've been playing again recently and somethings do feel clunky but it still holds up and has so much style. I wish you could switch weapons with some of these changes back and forth in newer titles

Alright I've got a couple of these character hot takes.
    Dynasty Warriors-
Hate Xu Zhu: I've never liked Xu Zhu, he's never been fun to play and he's never relevant to the story, the only thing he does is knock Ma Chao off his horse but I don't think it's worth having an entire character for that. Plus the whole big dumb and stupid character archetype is really dated and kinda offensive these days.
Love Wang Yi: I think a character who's sort of a foil to Ma Chao is really cool, in his quest for revenge against Cao Cao he kills her Wang Yi's family, sending her on a quest for revenge, shows off that cycle of hate thing. Just sucks they don't do much with her.
    Samurai Warriors-
Hate Naotora Li: I only have two SW characters I hate so I'm going with this one here. This character is SO COOL, in history, her historical record is filled with amazing exploits and she was a really cool character to read about. But then in game? "Oh no I'm so sorry I'm very shy *boobs jiggle like crazy*" it's demeaning honestly to take such a cool historical figure and reduce her to the "shy girl" object.
Love Ranmaru Mori: I love Ranmaru, he does the bodyguard thing very well (not as good as Dian Wei but that's a high bar) I like that he's feminine looking, and I think it's a shame that he's getting replaced alot by Yasuke these days, I like Yasuke, but why can't we have both? A cute one and a badass one?
    Warriors Orochi-
Love Shuten Doji: Not sure how people actually feel about him so that's why he's my hot take here. He's just so hot, he's got this casual swagger that I love, heterochromatic eyes, the Demon horns, all of it. Cool mini character Arc of not knowing who or what he is and proving he's not like Orochi after finding out his origins.
Hate Himiko: Himiko feels hella pointless in these games, in WO2 she was needed to revive Orochi but, why? They never explain why she's needed for that, and the only other thing she ever does is follow Da Ji around, so like what's the point?

    1. I demand a Dynasty Tactics 3. 1&2 were so freaking good and KOEI's ROTK series just doesnt hit the same.
    2. My favorite Sun Ce design and weapon were in DW6. Something about the Greek/Roman design and short spear just seems cooler than "guy with sticks".
    3. I really dislike the amount of silly weapon types Warriors games have added over the years. There's always been some but I feel like it's getting out of hand. We have boats, benches, brushes, lacrosse sticks, siege spear and arm cannons? to name a few. I know know im kind of alone in this but i like it feeling more...realistic. Which admittedly doesnt make a lot of sense for these series.

Here's a spicy take but i feel once elaborated on it might not me.
The take: Dynasty Warriors would benefit from being a games as a service game.
The Elaboration: With the announcement of Dynasty Warriors Origins. One can safely assume that the bloat that comes with creating a new mainline DW game without cutting anything out has come to bit Omega Force in the but. Cutting corners in all aspects end up happening because of this. With how SW5 was handled, on paper focusing on a portion of Sengoku Era was a good idea (the overall execute not so much). My point is let's say the next mainline DW after Origins was games as a sevice similar to use Destiny 2, where comparing Destiny 2 at launch vs it now is night and day because of the continued releasing of batches for that game without making a new Destiny. This could benefit Dynasty Warriors since the story ROTK can most definitely be fleshed out far better than we ever have if we focused heavily on portions at a time releasing new large batches that come with characters and stages. Like Destiny 2 as well it could have a competitive mode (10v10?) and also coop (4 player) adding to all these as new batches come out.

Hot takes, to me a Warriors games were never about its combat or the 1 vs 1000, but rather the level design. While good combat is important, it always more fun to balance it while doing objectives and side objectives. Having the map ever moving as you do things. How maps change and dialogue different depending on what you do and who you use. Where characters on the map have a purpose being on the map than just an enemy there to fight.
It's the primary reason I don't like Gundam Warriors 3, Fate Extella, or Pirate Warriors 1 Free Mode. Or don't enjoy Senran Kagura games despite having Warriors combat.

Hyrule Warriors builds off of Dynasty Warriors 8, and is much better for it. Pirate Warriors builds off of Samurai Warriors, and becomes more dynamic and varied because of it.
Consistently it's been the main series's job to create ideas, but never does the main series get to flesh out those ideas. I wouldn't be surprised if the next spinoff warriors game builds off of ideas in DW9.

Diao Chan, Zhen Ji, Sun Shang Xiang and Yue Ying are pretty much the only relevant female DW characters then the rest are more or less filler content/eye candy.
Then Samurai Warriors has Oichi, Ina, Okuni (she's funny) and Gracia who have much more diverse reasons for being drawn into battle.
. . . To be honest. I don't like a lot of the extra female characters (Lu Lingqi's a cool edition though) because of how they visually clash with the more authentic original cast and tend act like stereotypes of Japanese Idols and Anime characters. If they just gave them "good stories", more era accurate clothing/armour and maybe a bit more body diversity (they all look like twigs/models) then maybe I wouldn't find them so jarring.

In SW5, the young Ieyasu also looks kinda… trap to me 😅

I remember a similar "battle" happening in Pokémon Conquest (Nobunaga's ambition x Pokémon game), all the female warriors had taken center stage to find out who was the prettiest or something like that, and luck would have it that Ranmaru Mori was dragged into it somehow.

I only played the first two samurai warriors games and first three orochi ones but for me Ginchiyo Tachibana is a top character for me female or not between both series. And while I'm definitely one of the people who prefer older warriors games like dw 4 and 5 I think Xing Cai for the dynasty warriors games was way better in the newer games. Always hated the fork glad they gave her a sword. Samurai Warrioes 2 empires definitely is an amazing game. I do prefer the older designs as well mostly. Some new ones are better but definitely overall prefer older. I only know sw 3 through warrior orochi 3 though and didn't play dw9 but did like some characters better in dw8 like Lu Meng. I think he looks way cooler in newer games but still cool in old at the same time.

I agree that SW female characters had more depths than in DW, but how about the design wise ??

Let me give my hottest take- Samurai Warriors 1 has the most interesting and memorable voicework in the series. You can identify every character by voice alone. The voicework since then has felt incredibly standard and average- I miss SW1's Mitsuhide in particular.

    I got three hot takes:
    - I think most of the character redesigns in Dynasty Warriors 6-onwards were done poorly and ruined the characters and their personalities, especially Yuan Shao.
    - The weapon deadlock mecchanic should have never been removed in later games (Samurai Warriors 4 and its spin offs, Samurai Warriors 5 and Dynasty Warriors 9). For how annoying the mecchanic may be, it is still tradition to the series.
    - The duel system from Dynasty Warriors 4 should have returned in the sequels, but reworked in a better way.

I think the Warriors Orochi ultimate 3 was the best game Koei has to date

Lu Bu is such a nothing burger. I get the original story doesn't allow them much wiggle room. But he is so boring. If he was such a powerful warriors why was he killed so easily?

Dude's the epitome of "won the battle, lost the war". As an individual warrior he's OP, but that's about all he's got going for him.

I don't have much to say for SW, I do however have some complains for DW and that is DW roster is not that good, especially for Shu. It's literally just the whole Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei trio all over again, that and trivial female figures are waste of character slot, like the more interesting and actually prominent figure remained to appear as a generic officer

SW doesn’t have 1 thing tho apart from SW1 that DW has….a cute Loli (xiao qiao) I love playing xiao qiao in my fave DW or orochi games she brings the fun to the battlefield and I’m sad SW doesn’t have a Loli…..
Bao sanniang 8 outfit and naotora li are peak female designs from their perspective games tho for sure~ XD
I’m rlly sad SW5 got rid of naotora li :(

What about Oichi in SW1 and Lady Hayakawa in SW4? They're both the closest character to be cute Loli and Oichi in SW1 has a same voice actor who also voices Da Qiao where she was cute in that game.

@@HungNgo-ir7eq I mentioned SW1 tho ig I worded it badly I LOVE OICHI in SW1 my fave version of Oichi!!! Became boring in SW2 and onwards AND YES I TOTALLY FORGOT about hayakawa I didn’t remember her being used that much in the story so I totally forgot about her tho I still would say hayakawa doesn’t hav the energy of xiao qiao BUT Oichi in SW1 does and she’s my absolute fave in SW1 it’s a shame they didn’t keep her like that or made another Loli match her personality like she was in SW1 especially since that weapon is no longer usable it be perfect for another Loli character
But yh hayakawa is cute I feel bad forgetting about her…… maybe it’s me loving xiao qiao sm and I want a Loli character like her in SW

Koei should not throw away DW9 open-world map but use it as DW10 expansion like XL. keep adding it each installment.

I agree that Samurai Warriors has better female characters than Dynasty Warriors. My favorite female characters from Samurai Warriors are Ginchiyo Tachibana, Nene/Kunoichi, and Ina.

I think Dong Zhuo is one of the best, if not the best DW character. Unlike many of the other warlords who are a tangled up knot of selfish desires and holier than thou motivations, Dong Zhuo fully embraces who he is and what he wants. When the big man takes a step, the whole of China shakes and it takes a coalition of the most powerful warlords at the time to even try to stop him, and they still ultimately fail. In the end, Dong Zhuo's own greed, which proved to be his greatest strength, is what sealed his fate. He's a straight forward, contemptible villain and sometimes a mustache twirler is the absolute best.
