I think the song is a little out of y’all depth. The goal was to validate a region's version of what hip hop is. That west coast bounce in the beat, the mixture of Drakeo/E-40 flow. You’re not going to get a lot of double and triple entendre on this one. The bars are more straightforward for a target audience that listens to this sound. If you listen to Kendrick’s body of work throughout this battle you are getting a broad range of what hip hop looks like. The “culture” means something different to the listener that likes 6:16 than it does to the Not Like Us listener. But Kendrick is treating all of the culture with respect because he is of it and has successfully presented Drake as a guest (colonizer) who leans on other people in and of it to validate him.

Exactly! What actually is Canadas sound in hip hop?! Drake has never used THAT sound, he’s always using a sound from another region.

"Out of y'all depth" is a WILD take when what you said was literally mentioned in the segment. But OK. 😅

@@BringingDownTheBand Fair enough. I fw the channel. I haven't actually finished the video. But listening to you guys try to decipher every line in the way that you would other songs inspired my comment. No beef though. You got it.

Also with the "Sweet Chin Music" Shawn Michaels reference, as as an old school wrestling fan something I'm ashamed of missing is that Shawn Michaels' main rival was Bret 'Hitman' Hart who was CANADIAN... 😬

Or it could be exactly what they said. But good call on DeRozan. That def makes sense. We're Midwest. D Rose is Chicago around these parts.

@@BringingDownTheBand Naaaaw fam , it's 100% DeMar. Remember that he was the best player but when he left , Toronto fans ran their mouths. So it's the "...y'all didn't deserve him "

@@Zitolos Not arguing against it being DeRozan. Just saying it sounded like D Rose and we're from the Midwest where D Rose is Derrick Rose. So we didn't hear the reference until someone pointed out it he was saying DeRozan - which makes perfect sense.

Oofff....They Not Like Us is just about the culture. Kdot's entire beef storyline thesis has been an argument of how Drake isn't authentically of hip hop black culture...he's not embracing it, he's extrapolating from it. It's not about region, or country, or race - it's about pushing against industry plants.
