The one lap shootout is a bit more common here in the US. Ive seen it a handful of times in Indycar so I wasn't surprised that they went for it here. Also you missed Tony Kanaan doing a 230mph rally!
You Ur-Oh_Peons should lighten up on Ferrucci. He has not once had a phone is his car, hit his teammate on purpose, or hurled racial epithets toward his teammate and family since coming back to the US. And since they allow him to race with a flag over the entire car, instead of just the side pods. Since they forced him to remove them over there and caused him to make the not so funny joke that maybe he should run a MAGA sticker there instead. Which makes me wonder, could the issue not have been Ferrucci, but the Trident team itself? They were the source of him saying horrible things to Maini, they also leaked that he wanted that MAGA sticker, a request that is usually kept between FIA and the team. Then I remember Maini's rant after a race that Trident weren't giving him enough support, and the pieces all come together. All that and the fact that Europeans hate Americans (queue Clarkson doing a bad US English accent here) and the fact that fans, most drivers, even Bobby fucking Rahal love the guy here, and you gotta ask, what's wrong with you, Europe?

I was there, near the top of Section 20 (in the FF row) in Area H with my dad and his racing buddies. One of them, Jim, was saying this was the best conditions for racing with no caution flag in sight. Not 10 seconds after saying that, Stingray crashed into the wall, lol
You kidding right? Palou was absolutely dominant and imperious. From Qualifying and getting pole to leading the race before being taken out. Then going 30th to 4th. Absolute monster drive.
Dixon is the best all time among active drivers, Newgarden is probably the best driver right now. Josef Newgarden worse case scenario is going to win 2 races a season and finish top 5 in the points. I feel Alex Palou is probably in that same level where worse case scenario you're looking at what he did in 2022, win a race, 5th in points.

IndyCar showed the world how Motorsports should be done. What a great month of May. Great racing, stories, drama, tradition, danger, controversy, what more can a person want! The contrast with the blue blood F1 Monaco race was incredible.
Having competition from all over the world makes the race more exciting and more interesting. Add the drivers are so diverse and have personalities that draw you in. Good job Roger Penske you put on a great show
The last restart was a little controversial but the people claiming it was all conspiracy are the dumbest motorsport fans. It definitely is the closest thing IndyCar has had to Abu Dhabi 2021 but IndyCar never wants the 500 to end under yellow. Last year's was red flagged when JJ hit the wall for a green-white-checkered. The last 1 to finish under yellow was 2020 when a car hit the attenuator at the pit entrance and there was no way in hell they'd get that cleaned up faster than a normal wreck.
"Indy 500" and "Insane" go together like Coke and ice. Also- Sting Ray Robb was named by his parents after the Corvette Stingray. That's not a joke- I am dead serious about that. He's also one of the most incompetent IndyCar drivers ever with a lot more money than talent. He should go back to IndyCar NXT- he isn't ready for the big time.
somewhat proof that finishing 2nd in indy lights still doesn't make you ready for Indycar. though, tbf, some of his DNF's have been as results of being in shitty equipment (dale coyne should NOT have partnered with rick ware racing, this has only resulted in a really shitty second coyne car, and we don't talk about the third car that ran in 2021 for a few races which was effectively a spare car that just happened to have sponsoring). will agree though, he doesn't have a lot of talent, and probably should of have stayed in indy lights for another year or 2.
Fans in America for the most part aren't easily disturbed by occurrences similar to the 2021 Abu Dhabi Race. We would have wanted a Red flag in 2020 when the race ended after a crash with 5 laps to go, and Abu Dhabis happen in NASCAR all the time (seriously, between the three series, there will be at least three a month).
To be fair, a lot of the fans at the track might not have even thought anything was up with the finish anyways. Like there's 2 laps and they don't want to finish under yellow, only one way to do that.
I’m a F1 guy and a Indy guy, I love both for different reasons, speaking objectively the overall racing of Indy is wayyyy more compelling than F1. That race was simply put, perfect, it had everything.
One of the best races I’ve gone to yet! Definitely a controversial ending but I’m happy the track owner and most racers want the race to end under green and kept giving us reds
Not just 4 turns but 4 left turns. That's why so many drivers hit the wall, the urge to turn right just becomes too great for some. And that's how the Indy 500 is won... It's an endurance test of resisting the overwhelming urge to turn right for 500 miles.
One of the best Indy 500s in my time for sure. I wasn't able to see it live thanks to being dead asleep from illness, but seeing it through your lens was almost definitely far more entertaining than watching it as it happened. Also, I'm never going to stop boggling at how well Undertale music works for these reviews. Love it!
Roger Penske also owns the series to add an other layer to the controversy. Surprised you did not cover: 1) Pato's interview 2) How messed the field was on the last restart, passes under yellow 3) TK pass in the grass 4) Newgarden's crappy restart the second to last time I will say it is interesting hearing what foreigners think of the prerace and the racing in general after going for so many years
I know this video is little old but as a Hoosier who has been to 26 INDY 500’s the red flags created a lot of excitement for the fans. It was a crazy ending but we all had fun and I was 50ft from that loose wheel Southeast Vista that was sketchy for sure but all were safe. We can’t wait for 2024! Great video
Man, that was a really funny review. *Subbed* Sad for Pat O'Ward (or any of the Arrow boys for that matter) but it was still a hell of a fun watch. Glad it wasnt an Ad-pocolypse like the Daytona 500 as well. The Micheal Massi-esk ending definitely made my eyes roll though.
Great video! And I'm just wondering how F1 fans felt seeing all that weaving at the end of the race. As for the race itself, it's Indy, so it's always a bit of "this is going by quick....never mind" at work. As for the finish, given the rules in place, well that's that. Also honestly given the speed of the pace laps, it's not like they really warm the tires enough to matter. An extra lap to set up, is kind of a waste anyways in Indy cars. Also for those not familiar with the race and all the practice sessions, they used to get the entire month of May so it was two weeks of practice before qualifying started, which was 2 weeks before the race, and the weekend before the race. but not the days in between the weekends, that was just practice.
gonna say what i said after the race: this was the greatest finish to an oval race that should never be allowed to happen again. normally Indycar race control knows what there doing, but apparently they decided to celebrate memorial day early and throw all their brain cells out the window at the end of the race. the drivers weren't given enough time to warm the tires up for that 1-lap battle to the end. gutted for rosenqvist and canapino, who were my picks for race win and rookie of the year respectively, but then again, Indycar (especially the 500) is never predictable. still happy for newgarden, though, he's worked hard to try and win the 500 and he's finally achieved it.
Looking back at 2018, it's not surprising Ferrucci failed in Europe. He was 19, he was mostly alone when it came to his family, and he had one foot out the door, having taken some of his sponsor money to Indycar for a ride at Dale Coyne over the summer. This pissed off his Trident racing team. His actions at Silverstone that weekend were bad enough, having two racing incidents with his teammate, deliberately hitting his teammate out of frustration in the cooldown lap, and getting caught with a cell phone in his car while transporting it from the F2 paddock to the pits on the main stretch. Ferrucci had a drug test after the race, natch, and after that he wanted to catch a flight to the US to see a dying family member, which is when he told his Trident team to let the stewards know the situation, which of course never happened. But remember, Trident had a reason to be mad, they were out 500k Euros. It was their tweet that introduced the "racist" element to the story, and later leaking that he wanted to run a MAGA sticker on the car, something Ferrucci jokingly asked for after they took the US flags he had been running on the sidepods since he had started racing in Europe. That leak was the last straw for me, Trident had 500k reasons for Ferrucci not just to fail, but to be as bad as possible, and they set it up nicely. The European press ate it up, and are compliant in this as well. Ferrucci's first interview after coming back to the states was with long time Racer journalist Marshall Pruitt. That interview in 2018 showed me there may be more to Ferrucci bad weekend at Silverstone. Ferrucci is alone, as in no family, where Maini always had family with him. After the incident during the sprint race, there was an altercation in the pits between Ferrucci and Maini, in which Ferrucci states Maini was physical with him, shoving him. Main race, Ferrucci claims Maini hit him hard, putting him off the track in 4, which is reported as Ferrucci's fault. This damaged Ferrucci's steering, slowing his progress in the race. This caused him to be frustrated and clipping Maini during the cooldown lap. It was not the vehicular manslaughter some say it was, Marshall says it looked like misplaced frustration. The phone wasn't a texting and driving incident, but he does admit having it. He was getting ready for the race, doing physio. He was about to transport the car from the F2 paddock to the main pits, forgetting to give his phone to his Physio coach or team before they and him set off for the main pits. Instead of the phone possibly falling out of his pocket and jamming up the pedals, or falling into the seat, he fished it out of his pocket and held it until he got to the pits. Ferrucci on the racist accusations: 1. Me making fun of Arjun's Indian accent is funny, because he spent most of his life in Britain and has a British accent. 2. Ferrucci had to endure others making fun of him by doing a Texas accent all the time (again, queue Clarkson), which is funny since he's from Connecticut, far by distance and accent from Texas. He was called a Yankee and a Fucking American. His perception is that people in Europe hate Americans. And in that setting, he may be right. 3. His father never was in the paddock, he doesn't like it. While there were dinners out with the team, there were no racial slurs aimed at anyone. As for his father being a millionaire buying Santino's rides, his father is a farmer. He has an 18 acre farm. Santino grew up on that farm, driving his go-cart up and down the driveway as early as 5. He grew up driving. He was suspended from his junior year of high school, not for disciplinary issues, or grades as he was a straight A student. It was because he took a lot of time off from school to race, and he was bringing down their attendance averages. He finished high school remotely and a year early. I think Ferrucci's bad weekend at Silverstone needs revisiting. Many that hate him for it may not know the whole truth of the weekend. It's hard for Americans to make it in Europe, just ask Michael Andretti, who booted it after less than a year there, and just after he got his first podium. The fact that he calls his teammate, Ayrton Senna, as his only ally speaks volumes. The fact that Ferrucci was 19 and in that environment it's no wonder he was booting it back to the US even before getting fired as well. He's thrived here after coming back, and outside of the ironic feud he had with Carson Daly, who had issues with his father's racist comments from 30 years ago he's not pissing off the paddock like people keep saying. He's friends with Felix Rosenqvist for crying out loud. Rossi gets more love than Ferrucci in some circles, and Rossi admits he's probably the biggest dick in the paddock. Listen to the Marshall Pruitt interview. Look for a recent article by Gregg Doyle in the Indianapolis Star. The Ferrucci you think you know, is not really Santino Ferrucci. And I think he deserves a revisiting.

@@mypenishuge3499 I would've agree on that sentiment too, it's just finishing a race is not about it finish under green or yellow. It's all about how could we come home in one piece. Tethers have been on the cars a long time. Very unusual to have one shear. Yes, they practice a lot. It's a bit different driving at an average speeds of 220+ for 500 miles, and needs to be practiced. The Indy 500 is easily the best race on earth. They did not break any rules at the finish of the race.
I like how some people is like: Indy has the best drivers in the world. While Indy drivers spin in the pit Lane and can't race for 5 laps without a red flag
FYI, the turbo boost is turned up for qualifying. This, combined with differences in ideal setup for race and quali, is why they still have more practice afterwards. You could make some cracks about this next year. Oh, wait, they're probably not turning up the boost once they add in the 100 horsepower from the hybrids. FUCK!!!
Great race, great review, do feel this need to finish under green might get a bit silly tho, do we wait for a 6 hour rain delay for a one lap sprint?? All that and the fact that Europeans hate Americans (queue Clarkson doing a bad US English accent here) and the fact that fans, most drivers, even Bobby fucking Rahal love the guy here, and you gotta ask, what's wrong with you, Europe?

He's top 3 for sure. Palou, him, and Dixon (previous seasons) probably make up that list, in that order. 4-10 is a crapshoot.

Brilliant video😃 and btw Team Penske also won the coca cola 600 Nascar cup race, delayed to Monday.
It’s all one big conspiracy 👀😅😂
The last restart was a little controversial but the people claiming it was all conspiracy are the dumbest motorsport fans. It definitely is the closest thing IndyCar has had to Abu Dhabi 2021 but IndyCar never wants the 500 to end under yellow. Last year's was red flagged when JJ hit the wall for a green-white-checkered. The last 1 to finish under yellow was 2020 when a car hit the attenuator at the pit entrance and there was no way in hell they'd get that cleaned up faster than a normal wreck.
Thank you for covering the Pit Stop Challenge.
It's been a part of the 500 for decades at this point.
Love these videos! It has actually gave me an interest in Indy car now 😂 keep up the good content!!
Great to hear!!!
After I saw the race was crazy on twitter I was waiting for this video
I’m a F1 guy and a Indy guy, I love both for different reasons, speaking objectively the overall racing of Indy is wayyyy more compelling than F1. That race was simply put, perfect, it had everything.
One of the best races I’ve gone to yet! Definitely a controversial ending but I’m happy the track owner and most racers want the race to end under green and kept giving us reds
I was at the race it was my first 500 and wow what a great experience every race fan needs to go at least once
Not just 4 turns but 4 left turns. That's why so many drivers hit the wall, the urge to turn right just becomes too great for some. And that's how the Indy 500 is won... It's an endurance test of resisting the overwhelming urge to turn right for 500 miles.

I know this video is little old but as a Hoosier who has been to 26 INDY 500’s the red flags created a lot of excitement for the fans. Sad for Pat O'Ward (or any of the Arrow boys for that matter) but it was still a hell of a fun watch.
"As long as Santino Ferucci doesn't win, I'm fine" had me fucking weak
Awesome video. I’m a huge newgarden fan and was at the race!! Definitely subbing
Thanks dude!
gonna say what i said after the race: this was the greatest finish to an oval race that should never be allowed to happen again. normally Indycar race control knows what there doing, but apparently they decided to celebrate memorial day early and throw all their brain cells out the window at the end of the race. the drivers weren't given enough time to warm the tires up for that 1-lap battle to the end. gutted for rosenqvist and canapino, who were my picks for race win and rookie of the year respectively, but then again, Indycar (especially the 500) is never predictable. still happy for newgarden, though, he's worked hard to try and win the 500 and he's finally achieved it.
This is an excellent review!! The end had me flipping when you mentioned Michael Masi!!
This was the first Indy 500 I have ever seen and it's safe to say next year I will be watching again I loved it
Looking back at 2018, it's not surprising Ferrucci failed in Europe.
Ferrucci on the racist accusations:
