      The term ’learning disability’ is used in different contexts with different meanings.
      According to the latest DSM-5 (American Psychiatric Association) criteria, the term ’disability’ is not used. It's Specific learning disorder.
      According to ICD-11(International classification of diseases), it's developmental learning disorder.
      But according to Government of India’s RPWD Act(Right of persons with learning disabilities Act), the term learning disability is used.
      In the educational sector also, generally, the term learning disability is used.
      The term depends entirely according to the place and needs for identification.

      The term ’slow learners’ is used very broadly in the Indian context.
      It refers to children who have difficulty to learn necessary academic skills at the same pace as others.
      It is not a diagnostic category but a general term used in Schools.

      @@dr.v.s.gayathri are people that are remedial disabled?

    • @dr.v.s.gayathri
      @dr.v.s.gayathri  9 месяцев назад

      Each person is unique, and some may need a longer time, but there is no one specific as remedial disabled unless there are other comorbidities.
      Our brains are neuroplastic, and changes will happen. The approaches have to be varied according to the person.

      @@dr.v.s.gayathri I would like to know more about theory or how to design a remedial course for EFL students

    • @dr.v.s.gayathri
      @dr.v.s.gayathri  11 месяцев назад

      Hello.
      Since EFL students often have limited exposure to English, the remediation process should begin with building fundamental language skills, which include:
      Vocabulary - Teaching essential words and phrases to establish a core vocabulary.
      Grammar - Introducing essential grammar rules and sentence structures.
      Pronunciation-Focusing on clear pronunciation.
      The next essential thing is students should engage in listening and speaking exercises. Also, importance should be given to comprehension activities every time to understand and analyse content.
      As with every remediation program, we should plan it according to the specific needs and goals of the student.
      I hope it was helpful.
