    3:30 Tape conversions in the UK: For more than 10 hours of VHS or Beta, I charge £9/hour with a minimum charge of £4.50, i.e. half an hour charge for short tapes. Then for less than 9 hours, I charge 50% more (but never such that more hours costs less, I'm fair around the 7-10 hour point). Cheaper £8/hour for 8mm and cheaper again £7/hour for miniDV. A single tape is usually £15 minimum. Well that's the way I try to keep things as simple as possible and so avoid misunderstandings.
    But some people just read the bit they want to read, oh it's so much per hour so they can give me a pile of 5 minute tapes and I'll run them for pennies each. Or they think it's going to save them money if I hunt around their tapes looking for just some select fragments they want.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  4 месяца назад +1

      I get 10 per tape for VHS and 8mm. Trying to get more is useless because the Facebook crowd offers it cheaper. I deal with many that offer transfers for 7 per tape. Race to the bottom. Amateurs using a dazzle box.
      I get more for betacam, umatic, and betamax but VHS and 8mm so many doing it and half don't understand what it is worth.
      Race to the bottom. Big difference in quality between a 49.00 dazzle and my 1500 capture card but people see the cost as a factor.

    Engine oil should actually be replaced every 12 months, espesially if you live in climate where temperature variance can be 40C or more. like here from -25 to +25. Water tends to get in the oil and if the engine never gets much use = never gets in to operating temperature in winter time = bad. Yes it is expensive, but not as expensive as a new engine

      In EU FIAT Professional Diesel vans (there no gas option here) are oil serviced every 48K Km or two years. And the companies using those vans follow their intervals and one of the reasons they follow those intervals is because the engines are going to last even to 400K Kilometers without major breakdown. It's part of the reasons FIAT was asking premium for their model with their Diesel engines.
      There might be exceptions like taxis with engine running pretty much 10 hours straight or repeated start-stops without the engine ever getting warm but very few should need servicing sooner with the modern all synthetic crud they put in. Actually I believe it's pretty good stuff... you just don't buy it from FIAT at 35 Eur a liter.

      On the volt the engine seldom runs. It can be 6 weeks between starts (it forces a start and warm up every 6 weeks if now used.) The computer keeps track of how many hours of run time plus how many days it has been in. % indicator ticks down regardless if used or not. I change when it gets to 5% life.

    Hello. I have a sony slv-x30ps vhs player. I have been using it actively for 5 months. When I first bought it, the capacitors on the power stage were leaking. I replaced all of them, then after using it for 1 month, the problem started again. This happened 5 times, I always do it, 1 month passes and it breaks again, I wonder if it is normal. The problem is that the screen does not appear when connected to power, but the head and motors are constantly rotating.

    6:16 If you own a BMW and decide to take it in to the stealers it will cost you north of £350 ($600 Canadian) for a fluid change (brake and oil) and those are 2015 prices - that's a Stage 1 service; a Stage 2 service would be more like £500. I started going to the independents when I decided that annual warranty charges were uneconomical and I had the freedom to choose who serviced my car.

Sometimes "well built" and "complexly built" step on each other. Sony does this a lot. Higher quality? Sometimes yes. now the repair price point thing happens. will the customer be willing to eat the cost of your labor to have it fixed? I suppose it depends on the person.

      I made 60 on this. not much considering it cost me $160 to have the oil changed on my car and it took them all of 10 minutes but the reality is that's what people are willing to pay to have their electronic serviced. there's a reason why all the shops closed their doors it's because there's not enough money in fixing this crap to run a business, and the only reason I do it is because it gives me content for my RUclips channel that's where I'll make the money. I've gone for quantity on my channel because each video makes me a little bit of money every month when you've got 2500 plus videos. Old content according to metrics accounts for about 45% of views. Some videos have done really well. Even after all the taxes get deducted I made almost as much from the ad revenue than i did when I was fixing TV's and vcrs full time. Now if only people would not block the ads i could make even more and Uncle Sam would too because RUclips homes back over 30% for taxes. For that matter so does PayPal. So I have to inflate shipping costs to cover the fees I pay. If someone sends me 100 via PayPal i end up with about 85 after all the deductions are done.

There are no discounts. 1 tape or 100 it's the same price. 5 minutes or 2 hours same price. It's a pretty simple formula.

      I don't give written estimates. For Conversions its pretty simple. For VHS its 10 per tape up to 2 hours. That's really not that hard to understand. 10 tapes is 100, and it doesn't matter is there is 10 minutes on t he tape or 120. I get people that think some how that if they give me 10 tapes and have me just record 10 minutes from each, that adds up to less than 120 minutes so it should be 10.00 and they try to bargain after the work it done. Like today when a customer is picking up his old radio and thinks I will want his old TV in trade. Nope that's not the way it works.
