    Thanks for your repair videos and extensive knowledge. You have given many viewers confidence to tackle similar problems. I fixed a DENON cd player/cassette recorder recently. It turned out that the DAC was faulty and the cassette auto reverse was sticky. All okay now.

    Judging the servo board and the laser, it’s a Teac cd writer probably.
    It have the AKM digital sound processor, so should be pretty neat

    Great find, Dave! Those sleds on some of those drives can be quite annoying when they jam. Too many plastic pieces. I'm a big fan of Denon products. I have a low power receiver, around 35 watts per channel, but it runs class A and can be cranked to maximum volume with little distortion. I purchased it around 1985 and aside from a few noisy pots performs excellent to this day.

      Especially when people pry them open to retrieve a stuck disc which is what I suspect the previous owner did.

    I picked up a sony CD recorder for £10 a few years back. I use it frequently to digitise audio.
    It's also the main CD player in the living room, even though I have DVD recorders and a UHD bluray player there too, I prefer separates so I have a CD player do the job :)
    And yes, lasers. Love lasers.

    • @mrnmrn1
      @mrnmrn1 8 месяцев назад +1

      It makes sense to use a dedicated CD player. I use my BD player to play BDs, a DVD player to play DVDs and CD players to play CDs. If you use all formats frequently, spreading the load will make each device last longer. No point putting wear on a BD player by playing DVD or especially CD on it. Well, I need to get a newer DVD player with HDMI out for the main TV because in recent years i often end up putting DVDs in my BD player just because it upscales them, while the DVD player only has composite and RGB on SCART. Yes, my TVs are old enough to have SCART on them.

    • @dlarge6502
      @dlarge6502 8 месяцев назад

      @@mrnmrn1 Yes, it helps with wear but the real reason I do it is because dvd and BD players tend to make poor CD players due to so many using the TV as the interface. The audio output etc from dvd and BD players is excellent, but I don't like not having at least the basic controls on the remote and a display on the player that gives track and time information without using the TV. Some of my players can just about do it, although I still would need the TV to set up a program, but my UHD player and my other BD player upstairs have no display at alk and no physical buttons beyond power and eject.
      Basically I want to avoid ever needing the TV on to play a CD. I can turn it off when everything is set up and playing but I prefer something that is audio only to be fully controlled via it's own display, buttons and remote.
      Some of it is simply me thinking that audio has no image, I close my eyes when listening and might even be in a dark room. A tv would be too bright. But also I still have an aversion to allowing a TV to display static images. In the CRT days that would risk burning the screen, and as a kid I was taught into the habit of avoiding that by my granddad who used to be a TV repair man. Even with LCD I try to avoid it, and now with OLED it is a thing again.
      If a DVD or BD player has a full featured VFD or LCD screen and can be told to play CD simply by powering on and pressing play with no TV needed to select the CD player function, then it will do. I have only found one of my players comes close to that, the others always let me down somehow.

    Good job, Dave. I have a similar unit Denon CDR-W1500. Unfortunately, mine only takes those "Music Audio" CR-Rs for recording. Not that I care at this stage - I have a few dozen blanks and only used one for testing, no reason to copy CDs at this stage. What makes both yours and mine DENON somewhat unique is they play (properly decode) HDCD disks (there's a logo on the left drive). Another failed format that never took off and probably had no real reason to exist. But hey, that's now a good reason to have one more piece of gear in our collections :-)

      I think I will keep this one. Johnny sendcheck who is still jerking himself off sending complaints to google cloud compliance will call me a hoarder. Well if collecting vintage components constitutes a hoarder I guess I am. Just like my neighbor who collects old cars. His only problem is where to store the cars. So he rents a barn on an old dairy farm which now grows corn to store his 20 or so old cars. All he does is spend his days there tinkering with them. He is an old retired mechanic that lost his wife a few years ago, and son and grand kids live in Australia so he spends his days just moving his old cars from one side of the barn to the other, or putting his mechanics plate on them to drive them to his house where he has a lift so he can tinker with them and then drive them back to the barn about 20K from his house. Interesting fella in his early 70's. I see him driving around several times a week always in a different old classic hot rod. For years he has been trying to convince his son to move back to canada with the family. Even offered them a house to live in, but his daughter in-law doesn't like our "frigid" weather! last winter it made it down to -10c for 5 days.

    I guess this model does not use those stupid music cd-r disc i know a lot of standalone cd recorders did. i had an awia cd recorder in 2001 it worked good for awhile but then a component for the power supply went bad so i had a guy fix it for me then i sold it for $250. I think it was around $300 new from best buy. and i just bought a JVC cd recorder with a 3disc changer for $15 after coupon & membership card from goodwill they wanted $25 originally. it just needed a new belt on the cd-r side. and i cleaned both laser's

    Why don't they make belts that don't turn to mush ?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  8 месяцев назад +1

      They do. Natural rubber belts don't but most manufactures used synthetic belts as they were claimed to last longer. Well they didn't. If a device was well used and used every single day they tended to last a long long time the problem is when devices were put away and not used for years that's when they all started to turn to mush. Synthetic belts need exercise to keep them from disintegrating which means that they have to run. natural rubber belts on the other hand might not turn too much but they do get slippery and start to slip so they need to be replaced on a regular basis as well

    That belt must have made from the same material that the Feet of MUZAK/MOOD MEDIA players.
    When sitting on the top of warm Amplifiers they melt into the Cabinet and made for a Sticky, gooey mess.
    I found Goo Gone was the ticket to clean it up..
    I'll have to go look to see if the one I have is the same model. It is still in the original packaging.
    It was Bought for a Church but they went a different route, and I bought it at cost. and never used it AHAHA
