It was understandable that they have preferences and that they have their own beauty standards/ expectations but a lot of the comments were just straight up racist, adding insults that were irrelevant to the movie and were just insulting black people. They were making caricatures and photoshopping Halle, which was sad to witness. And then they started insulting other black people who weren’t even involved with the movie. And seeing how most of the commenters are grown adults made it even sadder.

Well done Amayah, you are very discerning and you have pinpointed astutely that the real problem is the insidiously influential media. The media is one of 7 global spheres of spiritual influence along with government, education, entertainment family, religion and business. These are all areas that we are influenced by, often without really appreciating that a lot of what we take from these areas as facts and truth has been manipulated and shaped by a particular bias of those controlling these areas.

Hello Amayah, as I am just viewing this video, I feel very saddened by this. It did not matter if her skin was beautiful indigo or cream colored and anything in between, she was still black. That was what mattered. This is all so ridiculous that people are so threatened over an imaginary character such as a mermaid. I can understand why races that has been under represented in the media feeling a sense of pride regarding the movie but why are people so alarmed in a country that is very homogenous getting threatened by a character being played by an African American actress? This is very unfortunate and one of the issues that speaks to the twisted mindset of too many people in the world. God bless you, and thank you for posting a great video.❤❤❤❤

I wouldn't see anything wrong with that. You're literally condemning the tribal African beauty standards, too, just like the Koreans and Chinese are doing. Black representation in the cinemas is equally relevant to both Africans, and African American, just so you know. I'm not Asian but from growing up around a lot of Asian people, they say it goes back to slavery in their country, the slaves/servants had to work outside while the kings and queens could rest in doors, and because they were indoors most of the time, they didn't get a tan, so people knew they did not have to work, which was a sign of royalty and a high status. This reminds me of black American history and black people issues with colorism. Even White people had that for years, you know the term in old stories "who's the fairest of them all"? They were saying they're the palest and they look like wealth because they didn't have to go outside and work.

Same with Japanese Anime. Many Asians see whites as or white skin as beautiful although the characters in Anime are still Asian they look very white skinned. The booming beauty/plastic surgery business in China and Korea show many Asians trying to modify their features into European features. This has been going on for a very long time. Some Asians may see some blacks as beautiful but not anywhere as beautiful as compared to Europeans. You should look into traveling to Ghana or a West African country to travel to. They have opened their citizenship rights to Blacks in the Diaspora. And learning to speak Swahili would be good as well although many countries in West Africa speak English and French.

Caucasians think sun-kissed skin is beautiful, Asians are the opposite. Pale skin back then meant that you had enough money to not work in the fields where your skin would darken. It became that "pale skin = rich or nobility". Europeans have the coveted pale skin and they didn't even try, so we're frankly envious. Plus their colorful eyes and hair? It's intriguing. It's exotic, and honestly you're gonna be looked at like an animal at a zoo. Sometimes not in a good way. (people are gonna ask for your hair and touch your eyes)
Meanwhile dark skin is looked down on. The darker you are the "poorer" you must be. You might even be looked at like you're literal dirt. Asians have mostly moved away from that but most still favor pale skin.
That said, that's not the main reason why the Asians disliked the live action. It's becauss it's a live action again. Because of the raceswap. Because the trailer looked horrible. Halle Bailey is cute, but not someone I'd describe as very beautiful. Because there are better shows to watch locally, internationally, and in Hollywood too.

Actually, that could be a double edge sword. If you look at some of the movies in the past and some that were not too far in the past, they didn’t bat an eye. you wondering which movies were talking about there’s been several that came out and to find out they had cast white actors in the place of minority, but nobody talks much about it because they didn’t see nothing wrong about it only minorities point that out. It was kind of weird to a point It was like they were sweeping it up under the rug. That’s why you didn’t see a lot of people talking about it like they’re talking about the little mermaid or other remakes that has minorities in the place of white peoples a lot more up on the media, where the other ones that had white people in minority roles weren’t on the media like that. they had Johnny Depp casted as a Native American, nobody talked about it the only people that pointed out that Johnny Depp played in a role like that was Native American and Black people or maybe some Hispanics but other people were quiet and I’m sure there’s other movies that nobody paid attention to it, or possibly gaslight it people that pointed that out at the time. like heck I didn’t even know the movie Tropic thunder that one of the characters was in black face. It was a big surprise for me to see that but I know people don’t like to hear it. They like to act like they’re oblivious or don’t believe this there’s no way could be true but if you look at all the movies dating back, maybe 50s or 60s going up till now there was never this much of a cancer up the butt of an issue with it when white people were playing Asian characters or Hispanic or Romanian in the list goes on, so that’s why I say it’s a double edge sword. Now is the problem because these directors are deciding to switch it up and put minorities in white characters spaces it’s like you guys are getting a touch of your old medicine being thrown in your face but by your own directors that are white people so it’s interesting to see their reactions but I don’t see what they’re getting out of this. they might as well make newer characters and who cares if racist white people don’t want to watch these new characters to hell with them and hopefully they get hit by a car who cares but they will be more newer stories that relate to the cultures of minorities that will go out through history and white people can never open her mouth to say that they were originally connected to these stories that come from these cultures. It would be good if they did it like that but what do I know, I guess the movie industry currently don’t give a rats behind right now and I’m sure that as open minded we’re trying to work towards right now our kids will surpass us and they won’t care. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they look back at these movies and some of them say they like it.🤔

      @@fusemore1059No way.
If Snoop Dogg, D.Dre, Luke Cage are white actors, Koreans wouldn't like that. We just love the originality.

@@kuratainoma852 But Korean's aren't even white, they bleach their skin and stay out of the sun to appear white, but white people in America and the UK, do not see asians as white, they call them yellow skin/tan skin people. That's why Asian people look crazy being upset about Arial, a made up, WHITE mermaid.😂😭

I wish you wouldn’t accuse the entire Asian race of protesting against the new Ariel. Many homogenous countries, in Asia, the Middle East and in Europe lack diversity and inclusion, period. And they need to do better. However, in the US, for example, many of my Asian friends have shown strong and resounding support for their fellow black/African American communities. My Asian friends have made it a point to go see the movie specifically because they wanted to support it. In addition many if not all of the major Asian groups/coalitions I can think of in the US have strongly backed the BLM movement, the Asian community has come out in droves to participate in support. I also have friends in the countries of which you speak who are extremely passionate about diversity and inclusion. racist minds exist among every ethnic group and other countries and ours as a collective need to do better and we need to do more but Im not a fan of typecasting a whole race at least as far as your video title is concerned

What are you taking about? She's addressing the Chinese and South Koreans... Not all Asians. For example, the movie debuted number 1 in Japan. Glad they didn't follow the hate train.
