Thank you for the humor in the video. I have desperately been trying to be creative with the food I receive from food bank and the humor in this video helps alot. Thank you again
Great ideas. Great idea about Food Bank. Please do a challenge about food received at the food bank. I am a disabled senior. Our Food Bank is amazing. Not just for the food. But for the loving kindness of the people.
Yay! I love the food bank and agree, there are incredible people working at the food bank. You read my mind and I have started working on a food bank video--coming soon!
Thank you for the shopping list. By the time 3 weeks roll around, I can start over beginning with the first list. You are kind to share with your subscribers. I hope you will continue making videos. I glean so many great ideas from people and channels I watch routinely on RUclips. I am always interested in something new and I am not intimidated by making my version. Hope to see a new video soon. Be safe and keep cooking! Willette
Thanks for the kind comment, Willette! I'm happy to share and I think that's the best part of RUclips--sharing and learning new things. I've finally gotten my act together and will be posting another video this weekend. Thanks for watching!, and you stay safe, too 😊
Gurl, you crack me up & loved this video. I make similar meals to yours (minus beef/pork, partner eats chicken/fish) and that saves $$$. First thing upon entering my Fred Meyer I head to mark down rack, all fruits & veggies $1 a bag, often even organic.💖
One of my backpat moments every week is using up all our leftovers or better yet not having any! I halve large recipes (just two of us) and freeze, so we never get tired of chili or other foods and are set for lazy days.💕
Christy, I am now just seeing these vids on 'eating on the cheap'. I love this creative new venture you are doing. Looking forward to more, thank you so much!
That mixer scene was hilarious!! I was a little scared your hair was going to get caught in the beaters for a second. 😂 We have a church down the road that puts together those food boxes. I’ve never gotten one (even though I qualify), but I do stop when they put free stuff out by the road for anyone to stop and grab. It’s the most random stuff, but usually some type of fruit or vegetable. I love to stop and then see what I can make with the ingredients!
I do qualify for food pantries but my sister doesn't. We took her grandson to the doctor and passed a church having a giveaway. While she took him in I checked the pantry out. They didn't ask my name or income so I got her some too because if not they were going to toss it. We got 2 boxes with 12 1lb packs of ground chicken and at least 40 boxes of mac and cheese, canned goods, produce and snacks. I barely had room for them to sit. I am always appreciative because of my fixed income and I always share with family and friends.
I save all the end bits of onions, carrots, celery, bell peppers, squash, cabbage and peels in a container in my freezer. When I have a few cups I boil them down for about an hour and half. When it cools I strain the delicious and healthy vegetable broth into a JAR (I know you like jars) and use it as a base for soups or vegetables. Waste not, want not! I love your videos☆☆☆☆☆
My fam does themed days like "Taco Tuesday" etc, but the idea of themed weeks is totally new to me and I love it!!! I see how it can simplify meal planning and save money, I'll be experimenting with that concept. Thank you😊👍🏼
I always try to cook with what I have in the fridge and pantry before doing my groceries. I can often have a soup, muffin and fews meals for the week with my "old" food!
cooking im not inspired to do any.. i dont have an oven either.. loved the info but a lot of stuff i make is from other cooking machines that dont draw a boat load of watts
You are adorable and hilarious. Your photoshoot with your mixer was cute. Then I realized your hair was loose...ahhhhhh! (-a mom of three long-haired daughters and a son whose hair is too long ;^)
If you don’t need the food from the food pantry bags, perhaps consider giving it to someone who does? Or find ways to prepare those foods for the person who needs them? When I was a single mom, the fruit that came home with free school lunches for my kids wasn’t great quality, and the prepackaged fruit cups wouldn’t get eaten as is, but I’d cut it up and make baked oatmeal or baked cinnamon apples to put on toast for breakfast.
I like to get my meat fresh. We have a great pork shop. I buy 5lbs of sauage at one time. I cook it all up and add 2 peppers, onion bags from dollar tree, and a bag of spinach. I divide them up in 1/2 lbs bags (I usually only add 1/2 the meat to recipes - extra veg). That way it is quick and easy to take out a half pound bag of meat, add some vegs, and rice or pasta sprinkle on some cheese. I can cook a dinner in less than 20 mins without a lot of work. Keeps me from getting take out as often. Also, if u use sausage instead of ground beef u can use less because sausage has a bolder taste.
I try to make dinner on Friday or Saturday that will stretch into weekend lunches and/or a couple of nights dinners. For example, I always cook a large amount of chilli and put it in the crockpot. It’s inexpensive and saves time. Plus, there is no temptation to go out to eat.
I hope you enjoy my meal planning tips! Please share your own tips in the comments below. Happy Cooking! ~Christy
Great video!!!!

Lo e that spreadsheet idea. I just switched from weekly to fortnightly shopping so something like that would be helpful 😊
Awesome, let me know how it goes!

Love it!! I need to find a Fred Meyer!
@@ChristysDiscountLife JIC you don’t have a Fred Meyer in Oakland, they’re basically Kroger (only better because it’s more than a grocery store.)

@@joanfisher9805 Lol! Yes I was glad she made it through that scene!

This is a great tip! Going to have to incorporate this into a video asap...featuring, of course, JARS! Jars are the best and so is tasty broth :)
The mixer moment was awesome!

Love the mixer mixup lol fantastic! Does that mean for regular popcorn, omit the sugar? I totally want to try this!
Yes it does! Regular popcorn is even easier. You should have no problems with it sticking 😋
@@ChristysDiscountLife I can’t wait to teach my youngest this - she ♥️♥️ popcorn!
@@margal3120 That's great! You're teaching her a valuable skill :)

Its in a tiny town called Ramer, TN. Town isn't even big enough to have a dollar General.
These are really great suggestions! and this is such an important topic to be discussing at the moment, I really enjoyed the video!
