      Cause I literally figured out how to do balancing reasonably well withing 2 minutes of ever first looking at the Logic Pro mixer...it's something that someone with 0 music production experience and a bit of common sense can get the gist of
      meanwhile it can take 10 hours or 10 months or 10 years to even train the ears and brain on how to hear what different compressor settings are actually doing to different sounds

    This workflow is amazing. I bought your mixing course a few years ago and that balancing trick to put down all faders first is the best mixing advice I ever got.

  • @proverbalizer
    @proverbalizer 2 года назад +9

    It's so easy, my balance is always perfect in the rough mix after production.
    But compression and getting too caught up in the details/losing perspective/working to make everything super clear inthe mixing process usually throws things a little bit off. One thing is don't be afraid to let background or subliminal elements be really subtle. Yeah we work to make things sound clear, but for the listener hearing every track clearly at one time is like seeing every extra's face clearly in a movie scene....

    Sick video. Quick question. Once you set your mix balance..how do you maintain the levels and balance when adding processing? Because processing will increase and decrease certain elements ...Basically destroying your static mix..

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  День назад +1

      I find it easiest to get the essential balance down and make adjustments as you go. For compression, most of them have auto make up gain that will help keep it consistent. Keep an eye on your meters for big level changes but also it doesn’t have to be exact, just use your ears!

    • @PLPOMH

    Awesome as always Sean! You rock man.... any chance to make a video on how to balance in a more hearing approach when bringing up each fader... I know its a subjective approach to every one.. but each fader in a way has a sweet spot where we can say " there is " the right volume for this instrument " - so basically determining those in the balancing phase. If you have a in-depth video on this, please pass me the link... if not.. would be great to make one.
    Thanks Sean - 8AUDIO

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  3 года назад +1

      is what you mean not the process starting @ 3:00? I didn't talk too much during it because I'm using my ears for the balancing... there's no definite place to put tracks (every session is different). If I'm misunderstanding your question, let me know.

    • @TheMultimedia8
      @TheMultimedia8 3 года назад

      Hi Sean.. what I mean... is subjective. When you bring a fader up its supposed to be heard i the mix.. and there is the " seeetspot " - any way to show this ?? Sounds like basic but many people struggle with even that... myself included in some cases. So basically, knowing there isn't a specific value but on how to hear each instrument when bringin it up with the fader. Thanks

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  3 года назад

      balancing is something that is in itself subjective… it’s why mixing is art! there is freedom of choice (tons of them) and there’s no right or wrong :) As far as something practical that can help is to focus on developing your ear and musical taste. When I started mixing, something I did was begin to listen to mixes very critically and take notes on where tracks were sitting in the balance, how they reacted with one another and why it made me FEEL a certain way. I hope that response doesn’t come off as vague and is somewhat helpful.

    I'm stuck on LPX 5.1 until I buy a modern computer bit I see my Limiter doesn't have an Out Ceiling. It does have an Output Level though. Are they the same thing? Also, I have a release function which you don't seem to have. And my Lookahead only goes up to 10ms. All very different to yours. I have a "mode" selection but I don't have Remove DC Offset. They look almost alike but might be completely different Limiters? I wonder why Apple do these things and do they explain why? It may affect people's earlier projects when they upgrade to 10.6+ Anyway, I assume it's not important or there is a workaround. Maybe Apple forgets that some of us Logic users are not at the expert stage yet. (hence why i watch your videos religiously. You are one of the best teachers on youtube). P.S. I especially like when you you use your own music as an example.

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  3 года назад

      Out ceiling and output gain aren't the same thing. The ceiling sets the absolute MAX level that will leave the limiter. If you're on 10.5.1, you should have both the Limiter and this one, the Adaptive Limiter (completely different plugins)... thanks for the kind words!

    • @audiospectra

      I always do gain staging during recording and production because of the plugins that I use during mixing (they require a certain level to sound best). But some people just mix, as long as they avoid clipping, I'm guessing Sean does it this way. It's just a guess though 😎
