Thanks for the review. The product is Ukrainian, and the price is American. The average salary of an electrician in Ukraine is $470. In 2014, I had a salary equivalent to €290, and in 2016 it was equivalent to €140, due to the drop in the exchange rate of the Ukrainian hryvnia against the dollar and the euro. At that time we left to work (live) in Poland

Thanks for the content. I believe that the difference between the Hapstone CBN plates and the premiums that you reference in the video relate to the abrasive material thickness. The cheaper ones are just plates that are surface coated with CBN abrasive. The premium ones are metallic bonded stones with 3mm thick abrasive layers. These can be used for a lifetime and still keep going, whereas the Start series will wear out quickly, as the abrasive layer is extremely thin. It has nothing to do with the grit rating. In fact, if you finished your sharpening progressions with the surface bearing plates to a very high grit, then introduced the "premium 80 grit", you would bring your mirror or near mirror edge back to a matte, rough finish. That 80 grit metallic bonded stone is extremely coarse!

I was thinking the same thing, I just ordered the tsprof Kadet pro and a full set of the premium hapstone cbn because I wad told they were amazing and they would basically do everything I need.

After a bunch of careful research... I narrowed it down to between the Hapstone & the TSPROF.
Ended up going with the TSPROF, "KO-3" model. It just seems to have a bit more versatility.
Both of these systems have some very serious competition now with the made in the USA Edge Pro "BevelTech." It's an incredibly well designed system that pretty much checks all the boxes with regard being user-friendly, etc and made right here in America.
    Appreciate your tutorials, thanks buddy...

I own the venev set and hapstone premium cbn set. I lapped both sets right away. The cbn stones cut alot faster than the venev. The cbn 80 is alot more aggressive than F80 venev. Also the cbn stones are all the same thickness, where the venevs most of the time are not. Both great stone sets. Both definitely need to be lapped with silicone carbide powders. Stroppy stuff works great but for mirrors gunny juice is still best. I just sharpie what micron the strop is on the bottom of aluminum blanks.

    • @NeevesKnives

Yeah I do not find that at all, I can reprofile a knife on the venev, I cannot on the cbn

    • @codyshannon24
      @codyshannon24 9 месяцев назад +1

@@cody3078 you use silicon carbide powder on a glass lapping place to re surface the stone. There is evenly distributed abrasives thru out the stone, so you can un dish and re expose fresh abrasives with lapping.
Btw.. any resin or hybrid bond stone will perform EXPONENTIALLY better after lapping compared to factory "new".

Nice review. I was trying to figure out the way to go if I were to get a Hapstone. The R 2 looks like a better clamp than the R S with its little screw pivot, but is that even needed with 2, 3 or 4 clamps on the R S holding the blade. I also cannot really gauge the size difference between the 2 . The R 2 is larger, but how much?

I don't understand what the point is of being so exact when measuring the angle at the start of the sharpening, when it is going to change as you move along the edge of the blade anyway. Since, it is a function of the distance of the section of the blade's edge you are currently at from the pivot point.

They should at least clearly recommend to people to add that $6 item to their order cause I would never sharpen any blade on any guided system without it.

This provides a level of consistency and accuracy that is impossible to achieve by hand. Not to mention the added speed and ease of use.

@@Zpalq Use a marker if you're a beginner. Now you'll know exactly where you need to sharpen. No need to buy junk unless you really think you must have it. But hey, it's your money. Knock yourself out if you think it will help you.

No one said you NEED it, but rather it's an option. You trade more money for the time and effort required to gain the degree of freehand skill that would be necessary for the same results and consistency. Just because you don't want to make that trade off doesn't mean it's a waste of money.

@@Ub3rMario Well than pay $300 for what you can just do with an angle guide and a marker. Here's the thing though, you don't gain expertise by doing it like this and there's really no advantage with this if you spend a little time sharpening knives. Start with inexpensive steel that is easy to sharpen, then work your way up to more difficult steels. As long as you don't use knives for field use, in which case you'll need to cart this contraption with you or hope someone is there to help you if you need your knife sharpened.
