Today is May 3, 2022, and for those who started January 1st, it is DAY 123. I don't know how Father pronounces all the names. Talk about murder; I'd murder each of the names! While Father was reading, I asked the Lord why all the names? I thought He gave me a smile.

Today is May 2024, it’s day 123. My second time around with BIAY. Simply fulfilling and satisfying to keep learning. Love the OT except for the difficult names😅
Interesting that I started this for lent, but I decided to do two a day and then wanted to keep up my Lenten practice afterwards by doing it daily from then on. It’s May 4 2024 and I’m on day 123 so I caught up almost.

Father in heaven, we give you praise and glory. We thank you so much for your Word. We thank you for just the fact that you've worked in history and you continue to work in history. Lord God, you've worked with every one of these people, and every one of these families and tribes, just like you work with us. Every one of us listening to your Word being proclaimed, all of our families, strong and weak. All of our families, whoe and broken, All of families united and families divided. Lord God, you are part of history. You're the God of history. And you're the God of eternity. And you're the God of our history. And you lead us, you call us into eternity. And so we give you thanks. We give you praise. And please receive our praise today on this day. This day, 123 days of listening to your Word and bieng shaped by your Word. We thank you and praise you. In Jesus' name we pray. Day 123..what a tragedy the ongoing fighting of Saul's and David families, story continues 😢 an innocent man is slayed in his own bed..but they will pay with their own life's!
The book of chronicles is almost as complicated as the book of numbers..great pronunciations of all of the Israelite's. Makes it easier when I hear them each time.
What a great list of musicians..
Didn't remember these people before. Just goes to show, each time we go through the Bible we pick things up that we didn't get the time before.
Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity..I hate the company of evildoers, and I will not sit with the wicked..such strong and wise words! Prayers for Father Mike and all the BIY family 🙏❤

An important story that shows David being faithful to God and God’s chosen people.
* Samuel 2: Ch4 - Consistence of David being merciful and those who do not deserve to die. Even when Ishibosheth was from the family of Saul and thus a challenge to David’s throne, David never ordered the attack on Ishibosheth but punished those who murdered him because he was a part of the family of someone who was once anointed by God. We must also not rush but allow God to do things as He pleases. We must not sin even if that sin will make things better for us.
* 1st & 2nd Chronicles after the exile, David united 12 tribes and then during King Solomon, it was divided- 10 in the North was Israel and 2 in the South. Thus, the divided people again desired for the unification and the worship of the Living God.
* Psalm 26- Plea for Justice and Declaration of RIghteousness- A Psalm of David- Have no company of wicked doers (Even Jesus sat with sinners but to make them better, and get closer to God, let us be like Jesus)

According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory.)
The Prayer of St. Gertrude
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
God would reply to St. Gertrude that He would use whatever was offered to Him for the faithful departed, according to His inclination to show pardon & mercy.
Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, & all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, deciding, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand the word of God in the Scriptures that we may revere and treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. I started a new job on May 1 on this year without knowing exactly the start date. Every perfect gift comes from God and work is a gift for us as it says in the catechism of the Catholic Church. Saint Joseph is the patron saint of workers and God me this gift through obedience to my earthly father.

It is so good, Father Mike to actually pray through the psalms with you. These ancient prayers become more meaningful and seem to touch our souls deeply. With them, we can cry out in anguish or praise our God with joyful and thankful hearts. What a blessing it is to pray this way.

Today is 5/5/23 for me & I say to you Sir George “You are brave to question God about all the names”. I mean that in a good way. I certainly agree with you about how great a man Fr Mike is in pronouncing these names. I wonder how much time he spends preparing to read the Bible for us.

2 Samuel 4 shows the house of Saul weakened after the death of Abner. Saul's troops are led by Baanah and Rechab, sons of the Tribe of Benjamin. Jonathan's son Mephibosheth is described as a man who was weakened as a child due to an accident with a nurse. Baanah and Rechab managed to kill Ishbosheth and escape. David ordered the execution of these assassins to which his men obeyed. They buried the head of Ishbosheth in the tomb of Abner in Hebron.
1 Chronicles 5 lists the descendants of Reuben who settled east of the Jordan River. It lists the descendants of Gad who dwelt in the land of Bashan. Finally, it lists the descendants of the eastern tribe of Manasseh.
1 Chronicles 6 lists the descendants of Levi. It has a separate list of musicians for the House of the Lord including all of the Kohathites (several Psalms were written by the Sons of the Kohathites). The descendants of Moses' brother Aaron are listed. Finally, the cities and dwelling places of the Levites are listed.
Psalm 26 is a Psalm of David. David pleads for the Lord to vindicate him. He proclaims his innocence by describing how he has resisted temptation from idolatry and hypocrites. David asks God not to gather his soul with sinners. Instead, David wishes to bless the Lord in his congregations and he prays for the Lord's Mercy.

David being the parallel opposite of Saul. Saul did not learn from David how to love God, but David learned what being disloving of the Lord is by way of Saul's desire to secretly and directly killing competitionto his power. David chose by will not to eliminate potential enemies from within the body of God's people tho Saul's relative may treat David in the way of the pagans as competition to power and property.
We must learn from the mistakes of those who dishonor God by making different decisions when the shoe is on the other and look in ourselves those opportunities to make wrongs right, or as least wrong as pur possible understanding permits with the purest of hearts and intentions to please God.

totally different topic. I'm not a catholic but would like to donate money to an after abortion ministry. can I just take a check to the church and ask to support a specific ministry or does it go into a general fund for the catholic church to dispense? thank you!
You'll have to find that specific organization and donate to it. The church will have a second collection during mass for various ministries but only focus on one each week. It's luck of the draw whether you donate the right week or not. Ex. Last week the second collection was for a place that's supports homeless moms. The week before was relief in Ukraine.

I can understand why people would kill every man, woman and child and their cattle too, but what makes me wonder is that they say God directed them to do these acts of barbarity.
God is a just God. In the Old Testament God directed His people to use "An Eye for an Eye, and. a Tooth for a Tooth." The 12 Tribes of Israel were dealing barbaric pagans who worshipped idols (false gods) and sacrificed their own children which was an abomination to the God of Israel, our Father in Heaven.
