Had an SE version for about a year and then upgraded to Core USA made one. Difference in feel is huge. Neck is fatter (especially after 2022) and comfier. Feel wise the guitar just feels much tighter, resonates way more and in my case it was considerably lighter as well. Sound wise there is a noticeable difference in the clarity and the dynamic range of the pickups and in my book the jump from SE to Core is absolutely worth it. Compared the SS to some Custom Shop Strats and to be honest I think the SS sounds better and (completely personal thing as I have quite big hands) feels much much better, as I just couldn’t find a comfy neck from Fender. You’re gonna love it! Take care! 🙌🏻

@@anejo333 Absolutely worth it imo! Just make sure to get well well informed on the subtle differences through the model years. Some have slightly different PU's and neck carves and also they started doing all nitro finishes after late 2019 (if I'm not mistaken). Another thing worth mentioning is that the finishes on the newer ones are as thin and soft as it gets and you pretty much get dings from thin air. That's something I dig a lot, but might not be to everyone's taste! Getting a perfect setup also is a bit trickier on these ones! Hope you get one soon and enjoy it. Mine's a late 2022 and I think it nails the sweet spot for neck carve, puck ups and finish. :))

I have two core silver skys. I prefer the older ones. They changed the pickups in either 2020 or 2021, as well as the neck shape. I have an 18 Onyx and an 18 Tungsten, my Onyx is in E and Tungsten is in Eb. Everyone seems to like the SE neck profile better than the core, but I prefer the older core pickups. When PRS changed the pickups they made them lower output. Also the finish went from Poly to Nitro. I haven't gone back to a strat since picking up my silver skys.

I recommend you try the core SS. I’ve had strats for well over 30 years of playing guitar, and didn’t want or need another when I already owned 4, that I considered really good.
Made the mistake of playing one, it’s one of the best I’ve played and now my number 1. 😂

Congratulations on the new silver sky. I have the core and love it. It’s become my number one regularly (I play it more than my ‘68 strat - which I still love as it does a special chaos thing). PRS makes great guitars as we know. They are refined, consistently on point, and punch way above their weight. Things i had to do to get my SS to what I like: a/ raise the action, b/ I bent my tremolo bar out to match more of the angle on my strats.
As much as I love the John Mayer PRS, I’m hopefully anticipating a Philip Sayce PRS guitar.
In my opinion there is a feel and attention to detail difference between the core and se versions.

You’re right, it doesn’t sound like a strat. It doesn’t have the anemic and thin woes of a strat and actually has the benefit of sounding full without being piercing. I’ve played nearly every production model strat, and the core model (not SE) sounds unequivocally better than any strat I’ve ever played. This is coming from a lifelong fender fanboy who was resistant to the silver sky for years before dropping my bias and actually giving it a fair go.
