Smooth Jazz Bass Solo!

- Once again I feel like a fish out of water when I try to play a bass solo. I won't tell you how many takes I had to take to get an acceptable solo . All I can say that way too many takes, way too many. The bass I played is Fender American Elite Jazz Bass V.
If that is just an "acceptable" solo, I can't even imagine a good solo! So melodic and so smooth that, on that rainy Monday morning, I find myself driving a Mustang on a Californian highway :-) Thanks (from France).
Thank you! Yeah, I tried to have some west coast vibes in this one! :)
Im getting into Jazz Bass now after 15 years of playing and you have inspired me even more. Great improvisation and solo my guy!
Thank you very much, I appreciate it! 🙏
Dude has earned a spot as one of the greatest bass players of all time
I absolutely love this I’m making it my ringtone
Nice!
❤ Best bass solo ever. Instantly loved it!
WHoa i can sit and listen to this all day......I appreciate the rain now as its so good with these melodies.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
This is beautiful
This sounds very City Pop, and I love it
Thanks!
Solid groove!
This is amazing
i love that it's only fingerstyle in it's perfection
Thank you!
@@paulipetas what if I combine jazz with phonk and make soft phonk
really freshing my mind after work, thanks!
この演奏を聴くと何故だか涙が出そうになります。
Very nice solo! Some great note choices in there. I really enjoyed this one!
So soothing!! Any reference (links, songs, genres, styles or artists) you can name for similar melodic bass solos?
Thanks! I don't listen to smooth jazz that often, but I'm inspired by artists and bands like Lee Ritenour, Yellowjackets, Larry Carlton, Fourplay, Steve Cole etc.
@@paulipetas many thanks! Keep up the good work!
BRO YOU CALL THAT ACCEPTABLE I WISH I COULD PLAY THAT BUT WHEN EVER I PLAY I GET A CRAP ROCK SOLO your amazing keep it up
Thank you! I’m sure your solos are great, not everything needs to be smooth or jazzy ✌️
I am in love with this solo. Been pausing and learning how to play it XD
I'm flattered, thanks! 🙏
Thanks for posting this. Just what I needed. Am moving from jazz guitar to bass, and you've inspired me in my search for direction. Much appreciated.
Thank you for your kind words!
@@paulipetas You're welcome. I love the lines you took - very natural, great use of the major 7, very close to where I would go (if technically able).
Love your honesty in the description. Your playing was more than acceptable. Loved it!
Thank you, much appreciated!
Every track you make is so on point! Great work!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Congrats dude, this is full of very good melodic ideas, putting a lot of guitar solos to shame!
Inspiring playing! I struggled with playing solo on bass and your video open up my mind to ideas and phrasings that allow me to play a decent solo. Great work!
Thank you! Bass solos are a never-ending struggle for me too, so I appreciate your comment!
This sounds great man but I would also try adding some repetition because you have a lot of cool licks but they're getting lost because the audience doesn't have enough time to digest them. This would add more space and also allow to you accentuate some really nice lines.
Really nice solo from tone to the playing, you done very well !
i think this is the first time i will ever say "this captured my heart".
Oh wow, thanks!
Great solo sir! Super love it! Love from the Philippines..👍
Thank you, I appreciate it!

So smooth.
Smooth 😁😎👍
Once more !!
Nice music.
So sweet brah!
very smooth indeed !
Thanks!
This is awesome. Love the groove, and your approach to improvisation. That's a great sound you have - do you have a video describing your setup? Love to know how you get that tone+attack combo.
Thanks! Maybe some day I will make a gear viideo of some sorts and explain how I get my sound. It's usually a blend of a line sound and a plugin-amp sound with EQ and compression added.
solid
So good
Love it smooth
good vibes!
Is there a bass tab for this.
Good work!
Thank you!
Its beautiful my Man,FUCK YEAH VERY SWEET❤

Quite close! It's 94 bpm 😁
@@paulipetas thank you😃😃😃😃😃
Great job! What the chord progression you're playing to?
Thanks! The chords go something like this: A-part: Bm9- F#m9 4x B-part: Bm9 - Amaj7 - G13 - F#7(#9) - Bm9 - C#7(#9). I hope this helps.
Omg I'm addicted you're AMAZING !! May I ask you if I use it for practicing piano and singing ?
(If I post it somewhere I'll of course credit you)
Yeah it’s okay to use it!
Thank you !!
I want to learn how to play bass since forever. Now I am trying to get into it and having trouble figuring out which base to use-- a J or P pickup or J & P pickup, J & J, Humbucker, etc. Its confusing. I do know that I want to play smooth Jazz for starters then perhaps move into what I call groove. Groove is smooth, chill, rhythmic and has upbeat positive energy. Not high energy, but sort of liberating, smooth, make you feel good groove. Any ideas what type I should invest in? Anyone? I am going to bookmark this page and come back hoping to find some feedback. Thanks in advance.
Yaeh ❤❤❤
Pauli, I've been listening to some hymns recently - i.e. Agnus Dei; Hymn of the Cherubim; Miserere mei. It's not my normal forte, but when I hear them, I wonder what they might sound like with a jazz bass behind them. Just wondered if you'd ever explored this or know of others who have? Thanks
Interesting! I don't think I have ever heard anyone try to arrange those hymns differently... or add a bass to them. I have to check out if I find anything.
Very nice. Well done. Where can i find the backing track?
Thanks! I made the backing track myself, but I'm afraid that I don't have it anymore in my hard drive.
Nice tone. What audio interface did you use?
Thanks! I use M-Audio M-Track II
Wow ça sonne bien je vais le travaillée
Hey do you recommend the bass that your playing or the new american vintage ii jazz series? Thanks for the good music
Thanks! I think it depends on what you are looking for. My bass has both passive and active electronics and is a 5-stringer (of course 4-string models exist too). If you're looking for a more traditional tone and feel, you should go for a vintage ii series bass.
Aijai! Olipa hunajata tuas! 👍😊
Kiitti! 😊
release this on some platform og
Hi buddy! Where i can find that backing track for practice please
Hi! I made the backing track myself, but I don't think I have it anymore on my hard drive :/
May I know the song you played in the backing track?
I made the backing track 😊
@@paulipetas can i borrow it I will take the exam with the teacher. It's a wonderful thing.
I tried to find the track, but I've must deleted it when I cleaned up my folders some time ago. I'm sorry!
@@paulipetas that's okay. thanks for your help🙏🏻
nice! what bass was that?
Thanks! It's Fender American Elite Jazz Bass V
oy!
backing track ? 🙏
I made it myself. And I don't think I have it anywhere on my hard drive anymore, sorry 😕
oke.. 🙏🥹
what's this song called?
It's just a backing track I made for this bass solo 😁
What scale did you use?
I think in the beginning it's mostly F# minor scale. When there's a dominant chord (F#7b9), 5th mode of the harmonic minor scale works on a place like that. There are couple of places with altered chords, where the super locrian scale sounds nice. But I think that the way you play the scales is equally important to what scales you play, phrasing and such. I hope this helps!
What are the chords sir?
What backtrack is that?
I made it myself!
Amazing bro, do u play in a band?@@paulipetas
Yeah I play in multiple bands
@@paulipetas Do u have your bands pages? I wanna check it
Tabs would be great
What is the song title?
It doesn't have a title. I just made a background song that is good for improvising 😁
@@paulipetas Oh your so great!
Thank you!
