I honestly felt tears coming on when the dad said that he felt like he failed as a father. I have a 5 month old and am new to this father business but I will be sure to teach my son the gentle art and hopefully give him great confidence

I've noticed something regarding fathers these days. When they feel like they failed, it generally turns out they delegated all of their child rearing decisions to the mother. Men have been neutered in today's society and deference is given to mom. Yes, Mom is very important, probably more so than Dad, but when Dad has no say, you end up with troubled children.

At 41 I just started BJJ, watching this vid makes me realise that yeah i'm still effected by being bullied at school 25+ years ago. I'm always on edge if i go out, etc. Knowing this back then would have totally changed my life, i failed everything at school because of it. Great video.

I love that you guys took him in and gave him the confidence to carry on forever. But I do have to say that when his Dad says (around one minute or so) "I felt I failed as a father.." I immediately thought that HE didn't fail as a father, but the bully's father and all the fathers of the 'witness'/'casual bystanders' were the ultimate failures. Unfortunately, your anti-bullying work is NEEDED, and I thank you for it.

I used to be a 'back of the class' kid at school, I never really new who I was. I have trained in karate since I was 3, I'm now 14 but I was allways to scared to use it as I thought I would hurt someone else or myself. I used to get bullied, but after watching this I am probably one of the most popular in my school, there is now a group of us, we hang around in the corridor, asking people if they are ok, or if they've had a good day, if we get told about a bully, we go with the victim, to help!!

I'm 39. I was relentlessly bullied from the day I started school until the day I had to leave at age 14. Not only was I bullied by peers, my secondary school headmaster enjoyed embarrassing me in front of the whole class. Thankfully, learning is something I enjoy as a hobby so I'm still educated; but I wish I had known how to defend myself. I'm still really affected by what happened. I'll never get over it. I'm grateful for you guys. You're awesome, and what you do is so important. 🖖

I've watched several of these documentaries. I believe in this system, two of my granddaughters have visible physical differences that were prone to be brought out by bullies as children. My son sent them to several different martial arts training centers and over several weeks, months I saw good differences in them regarding how to defend themselves and even stand up for others. It's been years now and they are well-liked teens, have many good friends. No one thinks twice about what they look like and in fact, they have embraced their unique beautiful identities. I thank you Fight Academy of Pasadena.

Excellent video. If I could talk to that kid I'd say Austin you are not alone. Seeing that assault reawakened dormant visceral anger and shame from my childhood 50 years ago. Anger I carry around to this day. Anger I only learned to deal with in my twenties when I began boxing. But it had taken root by then. Anger that, when I learned to fight, got me in heaps of trouble. I wish this kind of thing had existed when I was your age.
BTW: Rener, you're one of the good guys.

One of the little girls I teach had a bullying incident a couple months ago and successfully defended herself against a bigger boy (she's only 5). This stuff is profoundly effective and I wish it was mandatory in schools. Bullies would think twice if it was and other kids wouldn't just be bystanders.

I learnt taekwondo when I was 13 because I used to be bullied in school and had moved left my friends so I could go to highschool so I was pretty broken because of the mood then getting bullied by 3 guys it really broken my spirit I even went to take my own life then my mum helped by finding my confidence by signing me up to a taekwondo class I hated it was in groups so I got special private one to one the guys who helped me did the same thing in this video they taught my basics then moved on to psychological training and then moved onto advanced training I beat them bullies when they tried to jump me in the toilets in school my sabom raised me up they build a fire inside of me that to this day keep a smile on my face and confidence I lacked but now have I'm now 31 and have 7 years of taekwondo and 3 years of kung fu. So the things Gracie Jiu-jitsu Academy are amazing for these kids who were just like me. Thank you Gracie Jiu-jitsu Academy for your amazing work.

i learned in my late 20's what it had done for my self respect when a hells angel i was joking with at a pub told me he thought i could handle myself in a fight. i was Andrew back then and transitioned in my mid 30's. i haven't been a victim since, i'm 54 now.

I am sure you are all good in your own ways and develop and further martial arts in your own ways. I wish you all would focus on kicking the crap out of just 1 bully and helping just one bullied kid. Very good point. A lot of bullies have aggressive parents. They were taught to deal with their emotions with aggression and violence by being around parents or guardians that show that example. That's not to justify their behavior, but to "fix it" we need to understand it.
Aggression, just like fear, is a human emotion that has to be controlled. Sports and martial arts especially can teach someone how to do that.
