I honestly felt tears coming on when the dad said that he felt like he failed as a father. I have a 5 month old and am new to this father business but I will be sure to teach my son the gentle art and hopefully give him great confidence
I've noticed something regarding fathers these days. When they feel like they failed, it generally turns out they delegated all of their child rearing decisions to the mother. Men have been neutered in today's society and deference is given to mom. Yes, Mom is very important, probably more so than Dad, but when Dad has no say, you end up with troubled children.
At 41 I just started BJJ, watching this vid makes me realise that yeah i'm still effected by being bullied at school 25+ years ago. I'm always on edge if i go out, etc. Knowing this back then would have totally changed my life, i failed everything at school because of it. Great video.
I went through the exact same thing, and once I took Muay Thai, it really changed me. Everyone at the gym, you feel connected to, and you feel like a family. My instructor was one of the kindest human beings I've met in my life.
I LOVE what you teach so much I enrolled my five year old granddaughter in the Bullyproof Program immediately. Offering gratitude for what you and your family has brought to us! I hope to bring Alana to the University in the future to meet you
Amazing story! Wish these guys had been around when I was a kid. I'm now a karate instructor teaching anti-bully programs and self defense. I'm also learning the gracie combatives program!! Keep up the great work Gracies!!!!!
I love that you guys took him in and gave him the confidence to carry on forever. But I do have to say that when his Dad says (around one minute or so) "I felt I failed as a father.." I immediately thought that HE didn't fail as a father, but the bully's father and all the fathers of the 'witness'/'casual bystanders' were the ultimate failures. Unfortunately, your anti-bullying work is NEEDED, and I thank you for it.
I used to be a 'back of the class' kid at school, I never really new who I was. I have trained in karate since I was 3, I'm now 14 but I was allways to scared to use it as I thought I would hurt someone else or myself. I used to get bullied, but after watching this I am probably one of the most popular in my school, there is now a group of us, we hang around in the corridor, asking people if they are ok, or if they've had a good day, if we get told about a bully, we go with the victim, to help!!
I'm 39. I was relentlessly bullied from the day I started school until the day I had to leave at age 14. Not only was I bullied by peers, my secondary school headmaster enjoyed embarrassing me in front of the whole class. Thankfully, learning is something I enjoy as a hobby so I'm still educated; but I wish I had known how to defend myself. I'm still really affected by what happened. I'll never get over it. I'm grateful for you guys. You're awesome, and what you do is so important. 🖖
This is such a GREAT VIDEO....it’s hard to believe that this video doesn’t have millions of views💯🤯It was AWESOME for you all to do this for Austin...you changed his life💯💪
One of the best videos I have ever seen. It is awesome to know people out there care and are willing to help. I wish more people were like this. Gracie Jiu-jitsu is amazing. Thank you not only for this video but all the others that get posted.
i was bullied, took mma, grappling, and traditional karate, my self confidence sky rocketed i no longer feared my bullies they shoved me around i paused and thought of my sensei and shoved back in self defence some one stopped the fight but i stood up for my self and it felt good i do belive martial arts does help you deal with bullies and is a great method to deal with that stuff i really appreciate what you guys did with austin.. keep it up guys
I've watched several of these documentaries. I believe in this system, two of my granddaughters have visible physical differences that were prone to be brought out by bullies as children. My son sent them to several different martial arts training centers and over several weeks, months I saw good differences in them regarding how to defend themselves and even stand up for others. It's been years now and they are well-liked teens, have many good friends. No one thinks twice about what they look like and in fact, they have embraced their unique beautiful identities. I thank you Fight Academy of Pasadena.
Thank you for helping this young man realize his own human potential! Your compassion and respect for others is truly a gift in this world. I wish I could come train in your beautiful facility and with your expertise!
God Bless you Rener Gracie...as a retired Law Enforcement Officer and Juvenile Officer in the Chicago area....I applaud your effort in the war against bullies. Outstanding job....your entire families commitment to install a humble discipline in people is beyond spectacular. You are truly a quality person and mentor to many.
Is Austin still training ? It would be cool to see a 'Follow up" episode. Both of my daughters train and have been around the gym environment all their lives. Great job Gracie family !
The Gracie Academy is doing a wonderful job carrying a message of empowerment. I just started training in Jiu Jitsu through a GA certified instructor. I am excited to join their online university as well. I have two young girls and as soon as I get somewhat established and grounded as a student I will make sure they understand this very effective martial art. Helio Gracie was a genius!
You guys are heroes. Above all the children come first they are the future, just so beautiful the way you embrace that. I had the honor and priviledge to train at the Gracie Ju Jitsu Academy in Miami years ago, I have unlimited respect for you guys. Outstanding work guys, really.
talk about walk before talk! so happy u did this for this kid. i felt exactly like him when i was younger then i learnt to fight with some tech in boxing and my life changed.
You guys are amazing people to do this to one of the many kids being bullied for being different. You may have only helped one person but that if that one person helps another, the good will spread like wildfire and the world can become a better place.
God bless the people at Gracie! As much physical work as was done, these are mental journeys & big reclamation projects & it is so touching to see them transform these kids & touch lives for the better.
Unbelievable. Austin, my friend, hang in there. What a touching video, and what a kind gesture by Rener, Ryron, etc. This does not come off as a self-promotion gesture, it comes off genuine, and that's real nice. Hope you guys do a follow up on Austin soon.
Love everything that ryron and rener are doing. They have put a new face on Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Took it to a whole new level. Thanks guys!! Relson Gracie Brighton
Great video! Even better program! I wish you would travel and do this program across the county! The world is changing and we need boys to learn to take care of themselves like never before. PLEASE keep doing this!
Excellent video. If I could talk to that kid I'd say Austin you are not alone. Seeing that assault reawakened dormant visceral anger and shame from my childhood 50 years ago. Anger I carry around to this day. Anger I only learned to deal with in my twenties when I began boxing. But it had taken root by then. Anger that, when I learned to fight, got me in heaps of trouble. I wish this kind of thing had existed when I was your age. BTW: Rener, you're one of the good guys.
I don't understand how anyone can say anything bad about this?! Yes it's a business. So what?! These guys have just made this kids life 110% better. It's amazing!!!
I have the greatest respect for the Gracie family but even more so after watching this video. It takes special individuals to want to take time out to help someone on a personal level.
nice work Gracie... I wish, I had that lesson in my primetime, i believe my life would have gone completely postive way than it is now. And I believe that a many parents and their kids would be thankful for that if they got the opportunity to practice martial arts. Thank you Ryron, Rener.
just found this, I knew Rener was just a awesome cool guy, but this is just amazing giving back. kudo's I know where I want my kids to go for Martial arts.
You guys did so much good for that kid. I hope they're still doing well and training. One of the little girls I teach had a bullying incident a couple months ago and successfully defended herself against a bigger boy (she's only 5). This stuff is profoundly effective and I wish it was mandatory in schools. Bullies would think twice if it was and other kids wouldn't just be bystanders.
This is what I love about the Gracie family and the programs!! Im doing the Gracie combatives program myself and I run my own martial arts school, I was bullied at school and this is what its all about.....Keeping it real to the highest degree!!!
Brilliant to see and hope he sticks with it. He had a pretty nice looking RNC going on and if he's doing that after a week it would be cool to see him after a few years training.
Is this program still active? Best content that I've seen in a long time. I know these are old but I'm new to them. Wish I lived in California, I'd definitely join. Great work, really commendable work.
I learnt taekwondo when I was 13 because I used to be bullied in school and had moved left my friends so I could go to highschool so I was pretty broken because of the mood then getting bullied by 3 guys it really broken my spirit I even went to take my own life then my mum helped by finding my confidence by signing me up to a taekwondo class I hated it was in groups so I got special private one to one the guys who helped me did the same thing in this video they taught my basics then moved on to psychological training and then moved onto advanced training I beat them bullies when they tried to jump me in the toilets in school my sabom raised me up they build a fire inside of me that to this day keep a smile on my face and confidence I lacked but now have I'm now 31 and have 7 years of taekwondo and 3 years of kung fu. So the things Gracie Jiu-jitsu Academy are amazing for these kids who were just like me. Thank you Gracie Jiu-jitsu Academy for your amazing work.
i did a few years of Jiu Jitsu training as a young adult (early 20's) in the first 2 weeks i learned enough to have stopped any of the scumbags that made my primary and secondary schooling a nightmare. i learned in my late 20's what it had done for my self respect when a hells angel i was joking with at a pub told me he thought i could handle myself in a fight. i was Andrew back then and transitioned in my mid 30's. i haven't been a victim since, i'm 54 now.
CLASS ACT! That phrase sums up Rener and Ryron...as well as the staff at Gracie Academy. I'm so fortunate my sons are exposed to incredible role models like Ryron/Rener and the rest of the Torrance clan! They do just "think about" doing a good deed they "execute the mission!" My monthly dues at the Gracie Academy is truly the only bill I'm happy to pay each month!
Great video. I d like to add as a Judo instructor, that marital arts is not just for people that need to learn to defend themselves. We have had several kids that were once bullies themselves. They come in channel their energy, aggression and feel part of something. I m sure other styles have similar stories.
very well done to austin it took courage to make that step and try make the difference within himself and build his confidence back up. we can all learn from this and use this as an example to do the same and make the change within ourselves before we change the world
I think this was a great thing Gracie Academy did. I wish all you mixed martial arts people would not argue so much about who is good and what style is the best. I am sure you are all good in your own ways and develop and further martial arts in your own ways. I wish you all would focus on kicking the crap out of just 1 bully and helping just one bullied kid. If everyone did that, it would have an impact and change things and it would be something everyone could be united behind!

"Everyone is missing something until they find jiu jitsu" so true Ryron. Words to live by. Thank you.

I've been in mma for a month and at 29 years old, I am discovering this. It is true confidence.
All I can say is "WOW!" What a BIG heart you guys have. You guys are great for sharing your knowledge.

Did you ever take self defense?
Don't let these negative memories control you. Use that energy in a positive way. Do something kind every time you get a bad flashback.
This is such a GREAT VIDEO....it’s hard to believe that this video doesn’t have millions of views💯🤯It was AWESOME for you all to do this for Austin...you changed his life💯💪
I remember you commenting on this incident when it came out and how you wanted to reach out. Thank you Gracies for following through. Peace.
This is just amazing. I have no words to describe how awesome you guys are for doing this. Thanks a lot, Ryron, Renner, Rorion!

The truth for me is his posture! It changes from beginning to end! Powerful stuff.
I just looked in the full description for the video. Music is right at the bottom. Thanks man

Thank you so much for the response dude . Defenitly looking forward to checking the place out .
Thank you Gracie Academy for bringing light and attention to the bullying epidemic.
The only reason why I watch these videos are to see if I want to do it and I'm starting to get hooked.
Have you tried it yet?
Beautiful people. Thank you for this.
Congrats Brother. Training changed my life as well, I hope to see you one day.
I don't understand how anyone can say anything bad about this?! Yes it's a business. So what?! These guys have just made this kids life 110% better. It's amazing!!!
This is the spirit of martial arts. Good work GJJ!
I love these videos. If there was a Jiu-Jitsu class near me I would seriously considering going to it.
GREAT video! It is a life changing thing what you did for Austin. Bravo.
Beautiful. I hope this lad goes on to achieve everything he wants in life.

This is amazing, such an honor, such a valuable experience.
This is what jiu-jitsu is about. This makes me smile.
It feels so good to get your first stripe! way to go!
The Gracies are true Trailblazers. Their kindness and devotion cannot be compared.
Im glade this academy went 110% on helping this teen out keep up the good work :)
Good jobs guys! The gift of self preservation, is a gift indeed.

Rener should be awarded a honorific bench title as a LEcturer in a marketing school...
HE OWNS IT!!!!
Que legal este trabalho que vocês fizeram. Com certeza, conseguiram cativar este garoto, seus pais e a mim, que vou passar este vídeo pra frente! :)
Continuem o excelente trabalho!
Thank you
Great work! God bless
The Gracie family is amazing.God has blessed us with all of em.
When i was a kid, i was beat up a lot. I evently did a couple years for stabbing. A couple years ago (i was 26) i trained with tom supnet. I talk to people a little different. Maintaing my boundaries is easy. Jiu jitsu was alot of fun, and i made some real good friends. Im grateful that you helped this kid out. Maybe someday, ill even make the trip and say it in person
Nice video. Shout to Austin. All the best dude.
You are all a class act. Great work. keep it up.
You guys need to do something in New York , PLZZZ ! I really wanna start training with the Gracie family .
Very classy and awesome of you, Gracie Academy folks. :)
