  • It's safe to say without Linda Simensky, that we wouldn't have the level of animation that we have today. With shows like Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Rocko's Modern Life, Ed, Edd n Eddy, Rugrats, Doug, Ren and Stimpy and as well as so many more. Well, we might still have those shows, but they wouldn't be the outstanding cartoons and spectacular animation that we know and love today. She fostered a playground for these creators to work in that exuded the best material during the animation renaissance from the early 90's until now. The aforementioned creators of the shows up above know just how hard Mrs. Simensky worked and went to bat for them on a regular basis. And in Some cases as she details it (PowerPuff Girls) was so close to not getting made, but with her tutelage, never give up mentality and pure adoration for this median (animation) is the reason we can look back so fondly over the last 30 years of animation and say, damn my childhood was great!
Linda is the head of Animation at Duolingo, as well as a professor at the University of Pennsylvania with classes like, the history of American Animation, The Animation of Disney and so many other fantastic courses!

Cartoon Network (like most cable channels) is a sad, hollow shell of its former self. Back in the early 2000's, when I was in high school and college, it was in peak form. The amount of variety it boasted was truly incredible: New, original shows, classic Looney Tunes, classic MGM shorts, sort-of-classic Hanna-Barbera junk, superhero stuff, cutesy kid stuff, anime, and the early days of "Adult Swim". The schedule flowed effortlessly throughout the day. It changed drastically after folks like this woman left, and not for the better. Thank you, Linda Simensky, for all you and your colleagues did.

There’s still some good stuff out there on CN. It’s for sure imo a better class of cartoons back in the 90s/00s, but I can still appreciate some of the shows that have come out post the cartoon renaissance

Awesome interview! It's always a treat to hear Linda's CN stories from back in the day. Definitely should consider inviting Vanessa Coffey to the podcast too if you haven't. She's yet another animation producer legend imo

Would love to have her on! I’ll see what I can do no promises and thank you for your kind words. It’s always an absolute honor chatting with Linda. She has had some of the coolest stories I’ve ever heard while doing this podcast. Enjoy your weekend!

      Mary Harrington should as well.
My Mount Rushmore of animators would be Danny Antonucci, Joe Murray, John R Dilworth, Everett Peck (RIP), and Sally Cruikshank.

I assume said executive during the Fosters days is Jim Samples?

So one of the old executives said"Foster's sounds too much like a Pixar movie". Pixar is awesome. So that's a very good thing.

I've first met Craig McCracken and Lauren Faust back WonderCon in 2011. I ran into both a couple of times at animation events. 😄

Oh that is so very cool! I had Craig on the podcast last year, it was one of my Mount Rushmore creators and a bucket list guest. I would love to have Lauren on one day. Thanks for commenting and watching the content, I hope you’ll continue to check these out, we’ve got a lot of cool stuff up now and even more coming down the road!

I was definitely a Nick kid as a kid. Never really knew CN even existed and it wasn't until 2020 where I read about the live-action PPG reboot that I even knew PPG existed. Thought the live-action script was terrible without even having a clue about what it was based on. Now I've caught up somewhat and found a few retro CN shows that I love with the OG PPG show being #1 cartoon of all time.

@@WhatsInMyHeadPodcast Been in the US all my life. Didn't get to be home all that much with school and my sister's dance classes. I did try a total of 8 CN shows from back in the day and only 3 held up. I may do another attempt later, but I'm not optimistic

What 8 did you watch? Dexters Lab, Samurai Jack, Ed, Edd n Eddy and Courage I would recommend if you haven’t watched those yet

    • @BellyLover06

@@WhatsInMyHeadPodcast First let me explain what had to be met to pass and continue watching. All the show needed was to entertain me. The 8 candidates were: PPG (98 ver), Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Courage, Ed, Edd N Eddy, Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Scooby Doo, Where Are You? and Codename: Kids Next Door. Only PPG, Dexter's Lab and Codename Kids Next Door were successful passes. Unfortunately, Courage and Ed, Edd N Eddy didn't do enough and I left halfway through the ep. Courage also didn't make sense at all. Johnny Bravo and Scooby Doo were successful in that I watched the first ep, but needed more to confirm whether it was good or not. Unfortunately, the show proved repetitive in the storyline. Apparently Grim Adventures has dark humor, which could explain it, but I enjoy 1000 Ways to Die, which has similar dark humor just fine. I'll be perfectly honest here, The PPG reboot I found more enjoyable than the 5 other CN shows that didn't pass. I've had a knack for going against popular views without intending to.

Amazing interview! Got to know some facts about how PPG was almost not greenlit as a series back in the day. Can you imagine how many shorts have been scrapped back then(current too), that we have never seen? Hope you get to interview me one day as an aspiring animator/filmmaker.

As great as I think these interviews are, I've been wondering out of curiosity, will you be doing voice actor interviews again? It would be really cool to see you talk to some of the people who do the voices for these great shows these creators and writers have worked on. Just curious.

    • @WhatsInMyHeadPodcast
      @WhatsInMyHeadPodcast  2 года назад

Yes I will! I’ve got a few coming on very shortly. A few anime voice actors that will be announced in the next couple of weeks. With people traveling to the cons again, it’s been a little tricky to get some of the voice actors on because they are gone every weekend.
