Saudi Arabia with both the Sunni and Shia versions of Islam. Ireland, and ‘the Troubles’ between Catholics and Protestants. It doesn’t work! No one wants someone else’s beliefs forced upon them. Almost a month later she was taken to the hospital for what was thought to be complications. They heard a heartbeat, that wasn’t the mothers. Turned out the niece had been carrying twins. One fetus was snuggled safe and sound in the uterus, healthy and happily growing. That little girl goes to school, takes ballet, and can charm everyone she sees. Thought someone could use a smile. That's when Roe was in effect, still crappy. 2 months ago I was feeling very ill and I suspected a pregnancy/ miscarriage again I was never told I was pregnant. 6 weeks passed and I finally set up an appointment in Clovis, NM and never made it. I suffered a miscarriage at home because in Texas there are no exceptions until your dying. I was alone I was scared and was able to pull through. These doctors are worthless and I live in one ofn if not the most red county in TX, Lubbock. My body had a spontaneous abortion aka miscarriage. I refuse to even be seen by a Texas doctor now. But they do not have a right to inflict their beliefs on others, particularly when they put them at risk of poor health, physical and psychological, at risk of poor quality of life and/or at risk of death and particularly when they have no medical knowledge. How can doctors be prevented from saving a life for fear of retribution?? This is stunning and how it is a part of the conversation in 21st Century democratic America or anywhere for that matter is beyond me.

He was rescued and I was told he most likely will not make it through the night - well he made it because he had great care and after many months he came home to stay with me until strong enough to continue his life. He was a fighter, there arent many parts of his body that were without damage but his determination to get his body to function again made him someone I admired. He did win, he has his family and is happy - when you fight you win💝💙💙💙

We saw several patients at Johns Hopkins cycling through their own tests. One was there 18 years after a transplant. Another was weeks into his adjustments - and he was making the difficult adjustments to get to a more modulated stage of medications and side effects. His wife was his nurse, as I was Holly’s. We compared notes. We told him of a monthly zoom meeting and I gave him my card. He was joking about being handsome. I asked if he was familiar with all the side effects of the drugs he was taking. He said he guessed so. I said one you may not have considered was delusion. We all laughed. Of course, we were kidding.

And if that is not an analogue for your current political trajectory I don't know what is.
But naturally, with the Flannerys, "All is for the best in the best of all possible worlds." ( my Voltaire to your Sartre.) A peaceful weekend to you both. From A Small Island.

    👋
So delighted to hear all went well with medical checkup. It’s always a wee bit anxiety provoking before, but the relief when over is immeasurable! YAY! 🙏🏻🤗
As I listen to you speak, I’m sure you were Jesuit trained. My late husband was a professor at a Jesuit university. He was beyond brilliant, and with a last name Flaherty, witty as hell! Before he died, I never used google because he was my human google! 😊. You both would have thoroughly enjoyed philosophical discussions!
It so wonderful to get the good news you and your bride received today!
    Be well!
    Victoria

I’m grateful that the Jesuits in high school taught me how to think. I also had the sense that they held nothing back - except any discussion about the inquisition. I’ve thought about teaching. In a way, that’s my advocacy. Your husband Flaherty shared my curiosity about things. I’ve been collecting sea shells of incidents my whole life. Flannery is an Irish name, derived from flanabragh, in the Gaelic, from County Mayo. Your husband may be from that same sept. I’m glad you had your time shared across the years Victoria.

Wow. A reference to Seneca. I was reading about his dinners with Paul of St. Paul in Rome (64 to 66 Paul died in 67). Good job Mr. Flannery. Alway enjoy your thoughts from here in Houston.

So happy for you and Holly. Thanks again for taking the time to chat. I’m sure you had a long day. Right now I live in AZ. I have a double zeros to hear. Trump and Lake. How these people get a following shocks me.

I see labor unions as a reasonable option to a stalemated congress.
With the advances of AI, it’s going to take an, “all of the above,” strategy if we don’t all want to become serfs!

Thank you for your time, again. I’m grateful that all is good for Holly for now.
I wish I could wrap you up and present you to my family, and have them listen. It’s heartbreaking. They won’t listen to me. I’m almost thankful that I live a thousand miles away from them because absence makes the heart grow fonder.
You said don’t be afraid to fight, and I’m not, but
I’m outnumbered in my family. They have made their ugly point, and I’ve made mine, and all I can do is hope that they really do have some kind of a miraculous conversion.
We don’t do Thanksgiving, and, frankly, I don’t want to anymore. I don’t golf, swim (sorry), attend a church, and I usually forget to thank God for making such a beautiful place to live in. I’ll try to be better.
Thank you for all you do, John.

We all share this planet. It is infuriating that people who will never feel the effects or be hindered from global warming are destroy it.
