    Speedy, If you ever drop the cradle again in the future! Just remove the bottom shock bolt and not the two top bolts. Way easier because it’s one bolt and nut, plus the bottom of the shock sits in a cup like pocket. Plus, try placing your floor jack under the coil spring pocket of the Big lower A arm that the coil spring sits in. This will still give you great clearance and way better control over the cradle. And of course do one side at a time leaving the cradle bolts tight on the side you are NOT working on, so it won’t change the thrust angle. This is per Mopar factory repair manual. I did my 2015 Challenger SRT392 last week with all BMR parts and it worked out great. Not a bad job if you take your time and work smart like I know you do. Love your videos, and you should have been the Donut maker without a doubt.

      Good suggestion! I considered the lower shock bolt, but if memory serves the car has to be setting on the suspension in order to properly torque that bolt, which is tricky with the car on the floor. At least that's what I remember from doing suspension work on other vehicles.

    • @lylereinier4989
      @lylereinier4989 Год назад +2

      @@SpeedysGarage , yes but you can torque it while the suspension is loaded on the jack, wheels off! As long as the cars weight is loaded, it doesn’t mean it has to be sitting on the floor. I just picked the car up off the jack stands with the floor jacks in the spring pockets (I used two floor jacks) one per side. That loads the suspension, then do your torquing. You have to have the suspension loaded under cars weight while you torque all of the control links and trailing links, So you must have the wheels off. Same as a Alignment tech would do if he were doing this work for you on an alignment rack. They can load the suspension with wheels off. Just trying to help

    Wise choice Speedy I went with the whole front to back set from AAD and it dialed in my alignment dead on and am extremely pleased with the workmanship. Be advised after I changed to the AAD setup I had the original HHP links at 8.5 inches center to center and they still made contact. I put the stock links back on and plan to wait until AAD comes out with theirs.....options are to go with adjustables Make certain you ask for ALL the tabs for alignment shop and give them all the options rather than the standard amount offered. You an tell them apecific alignment specs if you desire. There is room to adjust with AAD parts you will NEVER get with stock

    First off, huge fan of this channel, Speedy has some of the best install content for hemi guys. I've got AADPERFORMANCE setup as well, below is my install notes and feedback.
    I have a 2019 Charger 392 with dynamics package (one day ill own a hellcat) but his vids have been extremely helpful across both 392 and hellcat platforms imo!
    Sorry for posting a book Speedy, just wanted to share my experience as well.
    When I installed the rear upper control arms (forward and rearward) as well as lower rear trailing arms on my 19 Charger 392, I had to go the cutting bolt method. I also did everything with hand tools. You will def feel it next day lol.. It took about 5 hours to do it all. I was hesitant about cutting but in order to do so using a sawzall is purchasing a good set of Diablo 9" blades and installing them teeth facing upwards. I had the car itself jacked up and a smaller jack on the whole spindle assembly to relieve tension and aid with installing bolts. Loosen the bolt that is near the frame as best you can, and it will provide just enough space to get the blade between the bolt head and arm. Cut upwards taking your time, and spray a little bit of lubricant as you go. Don't rush and the bolts will cut off easily. Cutting upwards prevents you from potentially damaging or nicking other frame components/wiring/lines etc. Once the bolt is removed you can then install the new AAD supplied hardware with the bolt head on opposite side for ease of removal without cutting or lowering cradle next time if need be.
    If you do it this way, torquing the bolts is still a pain but still possible. I also used BLUE loctite for peace of mind as well as used a paint pen to mark everything for visual inspection after a few hard miles of driving. Take your time, ask Zach or Parker of AAD questions if need be since they are fantastic to deal with.
    I've had my AAD parts installed for over a year without any issues. One of the best mods I've done and firms up the rear end in not only straight line but also turns. Wheel hop is gone when it spins even on the crap oem 275 Pirellis. It hooks and just wants to go straight. I had AAD setup the arms with +1 degree of positive camber or basically stock to help with launching.
    Lastly, if you have the ability to lower the cradle, do so. It makes the install much easier especially with torquing the bolts. But there is a second way as well as mentioned above if you decide to do so. AAD provides instructions for both.
    I also have pics and brief writeup on hellcat.org forums under Charger 392 thread showing my AAD install.
    The lower trailing arms are very easy. 30-45min job. Its the upper rearward and forward arms that are time consuming. I can't comment on the toe arms since I haven't installed yet. Good luck with the mods

    Hey Speedy, great content as usual! I am getting ready to tackle this install, and was hoping you can clarify your statement with what you did with the four 18mm cradle bolts as explained beginning at 3:00. I just want to make sure I am following you clearly. Thanks for the help and the continued content.

    • @SpeedysGarage
      @SpeedysGarage  3 года назад +1

      Bottom line, don't remove all 4 cradle bolts at the same time. You want at least one in there to keep the cradle in line. If you can get it done with only removing one side at a time that's best but I had to loosen some on both sides to get it low enough.

    If you don't want to drop the cradle for the upper trailing arm inboard bolt that's against the body all you have to do is loosen the bolt and then cut the head off. Installation of a new bolt the the nut against the body. In your vid you mentioned cutting the frame that's not necessary. To do the toe arms and the sway bar or any of the cradle bushings you will need to drop it to change those items.

    • @SpeedysGarage

    Great detail and tips in your video as always.
    I gotta tell ya though, please rethink not putting a permanent 2-post lift in your awesome shop. Watching you bend down and work on the suspension was killing my back. My shop is 16''8"wide by 28'8"long (interior dimension) as the 3rd bay of my garage. I added a 12' tall, 10K pound DP10A Forward lift and my cars get a lot more attention underneath simply because it's easy to put them in the air and inspect them. Little stuff get's attention that never would. And my back and knees don't hurt. Yeah, I'm older than you.
    Just some friendly advice: Stop worrying about how those posts will be in the way - your garage is huge and you won't mind a slight detour around them but your baby will get much better care once you have a lift.

      I had full intent to put one in when I built the shop. Just got spoiled by the space. Maybe one of these days, luckily the Hellcat has been super reliable so I've really only needed a lift twice now in the 4 years I've owned it.

    Great video but your comment about an extension changing torque is incorrect. If it is a straight extension there is no change in torque. If you use a crows foot or are torquing a bolt that is offset from the drive rotation you need to make adjustments but a straight extension does not effect rotational torque.

    Hi Speedy...Great vid and very helpful tips. That nice shop makes it look a lot easier than it is and I consider 5-hours as pretty fast. This is definitely a 2-person job, both with a high level of skill. Will be very interested in how the thrust angle alignment turns out. Did you consider replacing the bushings at the cradle mounts? If I had your money I'd burn mine (LOL) but I would definitely put in a lift. Just yesterday I got the new 2020 Challenger Service Information from Tech Authority (MOPAR.COM). Following the linked information under the Rear Suspension Spring Installation will eventually lead to a Torque Spec Table in Chapter 13 Frame and Bumpers. The rear suspension crossmember (cradle) to body bolt torque value is 185 N-M 136 Ft Lbs. Hope that helps. BE SAFE

    • @SpeedysGarage
      @SpeedysGarage  3 года назад

      Thanks for that, I'll set them to 136 ft/lbs. I'm very happy with the ride of the Hellcat and I only want to do enough to get the 60' optimized, so I've avoided doing cradle mounts. I'm hoping this suspension will get me what I'm looking for.

      @@SpeedysGarage I, like the others, will be waiting for your follow-up and how much shim you put in for the track. More important will be how you determined how much to put in. I know you already know this from your past experience but thought I would tell you anyway. From what you described as to how you did the work, you are in good agreement with what the manual says with one difference being (and you may have done this and I just didn't hear it) but the manual says to put the car on the alignment lift (which I interpret as load the suspension to ride height) and then tighten the suspension arm(s) bolts to final torque spec (they do say to raise the car just enough to access the bolt). From my past experience this is a standard requirement which allows the bushings to be unloaded in torsion i.e. no preload at ride height and they will last longer. AAD should have had some instructions. Good luck in next seasons racing. BE SAFE

    • @SpeedysGarage
      @SpeedysGarage  3 года назад

      You actually can't get to a lot of the bolts with the cradle even in the car LOL, so we had to tighten them where we could reach them, some with the cradle lowered. The AAD parts use derlin or spherflex (sp?) bushings so hopefully they're good to go with that method.

    • @jcasey460
      @jcasey460 3 года назад

      @@SpeedysGarage Yea...that's why they say to raise the car enough to get to the bolts. After I sent the last reply I went to the AAD web and looked at their instructions for the rear lower trailing arm and sure enough they did not say anything about setting the car down before final torque. I sent them an email asking about that and the lubrication instruction. Hope they get back with me. Thanks for your feedback, I now have a better idea of what I'm up against and what's OK and not OK.

Better buy the multiple alignment package which I never have done before...have a good evening and thanks, this was really helpful.
