I just bought a £12 riq, I am aware it won’t sound great because it’s so cheap but it’s a low investment way to start learning and I’m so excited for it to arrive so I can start learning! I love how it sounds and once I learn how to play and I enjoy it I will buy one of decent quality. Your videos make me so excited to learn!

Thanks for the kind words and enjoy your new riq! I remember my first one was a very basic instrument but it was enough to get me going on the techniques. Have fun!

Thank you very much for your valuable instructions. May I ask what kind of skin (drum head) you use? Is it a natural skin? Can you tune it?

    • @kenshorley

It's a Remo tunable Weatherking head.

Khawp Khun Ka thank you from Thailand. I love the way you teach the riq, so easy to understand the technique and rhythm! look forward to your next tutorial. Im buying a riq from Cooperman which do you prefer the weatherking head or renassaunce? thanks Pu

Thanks for the kind words! I have the Renaissance head on my Cooperman Tars but I prefer the Weatherking on the riq. But either one will be great!

@@kenshorley I notice you have a renassaunce head on your riq any particular reason? maybe a little more mellow sound .
