I remember not being good at math. In college I started at the lowest of low math class, which wasn't even college level. All together, I had 11 math classes. It was very hard, I did have to repeat a few, but looking back it was all worth it. I have a very good high paying job in engineering, with great benefits. I know this stuff is hard if you're currently taking it, but you will thank yourself later. You can do this. You are worth it.

I have always thought of Geometry as a very important prerequisite for Trigonometry.
It seems like a lot of people consider only Algebra to be a prerequisite for that course, but Trigonometry does deal a lot with triangles and parallelograms, and also circles to some extent (the unit circle), so it makes sense to finish Geometry before that course.

But now I quit to go back to college (just before covid happened), started studying math 8hrs/day everyday, I was able to pass precalculus 1 & 2 (teacher knew my story and was stunned I passed lol) and am now in Calculus 1 well on my way to an electrical engineering degree. Thanks for asking @@notz7737! I am at university now and doing great. I've made it through calc1, calc2, calc3, differential equations, and linear algebra (plus physics 1 & 2 and all the other hard undergrad weeder classes). Amazingly I am really good at math now. Tonight I'm brushing up on Laplace Transforms for a Signals & Systems midterm Thursday. Calc2 was my hardest math class, but to be honest, things I learned two years ago are still clicking into place here and there. One thing to keep in mind is that math is something you can visualize. Take functions in R^2 for example, you can see them plotted on the x-y plane, so where some might only see something like f(x)=x^2 as letters and numbers on a page, being the student that knows how that plots onto a real (or imaginary) plane is invaluable and only gets more and more useful as your math education progresses. My best advice would be to ALWAYS make a note sheet for every exam and keep them organized. You'll be using them all the way through college. Note sheets I made in precalc2 are still proving useful. Oh, and I have not opened a single math textbook, all my at home education is thanks to papa youtube.

I have literally spent the last 2 weeks confused about how the slope of a tangent line equation was made. My teacher was so bad at explaining it that I just assumed it was impossible to explain. This video spend 45 seconds to basically create the equation, and now i actually understand it. Thank you Khan Academy.

Very helpful! If you take too many derivatives, you could get SLOPEHAPPY! Just a little math humor that may be enjoyed by some.

I dropped out of calculus 3 times!! About 5 Years ago..since then, EVEN changed my major! Back then, just 5 years ago, RUclips was not so popular yet..and much LESS VIDEOS like THIS were NONEXISTENT! DAMN!! WHY ME!!?? WHY!!??? This video FINALLY SHUN some light into derivatives! Maybe I will finish my current major and take calculus again some day.

I took Calculus 1 as a first-semester sophomore in college and failed. I passed with a C the next semester. That was 2001. This RUclips generation is very lucky because videos like this are more easy to understand than my TA's office hours.

    nts 8:28
'as h approaches 0, secant line gets closer and closer to the slope of the tangent line'
can therefore find the exact slope of that point along curve

Love your videos man, I've been watching them for weeks, altough the I screwed in the Derivatives quiz las Thursday, I'm learning.
Just a friendly comment would be to please would you enhance you math symbols, many times I get lost when I see f(x)-3 being it f(x)=3.
    You'the the best Sal.

you can use the line tool in mspaint to draw the axes and various straight lines. even the simple functions (y=x.x) can be drawn with some cutting and pasting.

This video rocks. The way I am being taught Math and Calculus is I'm given the formulas and am being told it is what it is. This video, and all the rest of them, 1) put them in easy to understand terms and, 2) actually show how he came up with the answer. That is of more value, learning how to get to the equation then just seeing it and going with it.

Finally! I understood exactly what a derivative is! It's actually better a video in English than a book in Spanish.

Thank you! I've been reading this kind of information for the last couple of weeks, yet there has been to 'reference' information that this video has. Now I can apply derivatives with full understanding into my vector fields (of which I'm implementing into my directx game). Plus, when I get stuck with calculus, I know where to look :P! And again, thank you!
