Five Hours In, Dark Deity is Just Pretty Alright

- Old school Fire Emblem has a very specific rhythm to it. It's a rhythm that even its own franchise has largely evolved beyond, but as Dark Deity shows, it's still a formula that can work and be entertaining. Unfortunately, Dark Deity pushes itself a little too far and sometimes confuses complexity for depth, bogging down an otherwise entertaining game. Overall, it's just kind of ok, but in such an underserved sub-sub-genre, even ok can sometimes be good enough.

Just in general, the older I get, the more my time is far more important to me than money. So I just wanted to say I appreciate all you do with this channel.
I'm just happy there's another classic FE style game out there now
Been loving your videos, the emphasis on time as well as the insightfulness into the games is perfect! Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see more.
Also really happy the channel is doing better :)
Great video. I've had this game on my wishlist for a while, but was unsure of it, but after this even though I haven't played a Fire Emblem game before I think I'll be able to push through that and enjoy this game. Additionally, I am SO HAPPY that the channel is doing better
Another fantastic review! Sad to hear they didn't include some of the social elements that made Fire Emblem 3 Houses so endearing.
Yeah, it's much more about capturing the GBA era of games than the modern ones, which are their own very different form of fun!
Always great to hear/see when art inspires other art :)
Also If your strap for time you can listen to let’s player play the game for you in background as you do something else
This is a great video, and has given me some great insight about this game!! It's been on my wishlist ever since I saw the creator talking about it on tiktok. Been pretty skeptical but interested, so thanks!!
By the way, this is the first video I've watched of yours since your submission on Rabuzten's stream. I can tell you've gotten even better since then. Keep up the good work!!
Hey, thanks for stopping in, and I'm glad you enjoyed!
this game made me play Three House again (that's a good thing is was locked in a curch playthrough and I wanted the "other" story but before playing DD didn't had any stregh to begin a new playthrough)
Thanks for the vid
Everything in the game looks beautifully designed but unfortunately those battlefield backgrounds look awful.
Yeah, they're a little raw.
Live by the Sword: Tactics, do you think you will cover it?
We just want Fire Emblem for PC. I'm definitively not buying a Switch just for that shit.
Cool
isn't that funny, i *just* put this game on my wishlist. i was like "these fire emblem fan games always put way too much nitty gritty in them, i dunno if i want this" and lo and behold alex coming in and confirming things for me. still, i respect the effort put in. i do have some questions, if you're willing to answer them:
1. can you save whenever you want? that helps with the long missions
2. is weapon durability a thing? i couldn't quite tell from the video
3. archers are terrible in 99% of fire emblem games. that the case here?
1. Best I can tell, not during missions, but I might have just missed the button.
2. Weapon durability is not a thing. Thank god.
3. They're not so bad. They're still squishy, but bows have some decent weapon/armor advantages that empower them in the same way rogues are. Really, it's armor units that lose out the most in this game.
@@FirstFive thanks!
Basically, pick up the game if you are a fan of turn based rpgs.
