Since retiring one of those kits resided in my garage for 20 years. A guy asked me if I had any old military stuff I didn't want and I gave what I had to him; button stick, spent rounds, brass buttons etc. and said Outfit Anti Dimming. Then came COVID and after lockdown, Liam the Barber went back to work wearing a mask that steamed up his spectacles. He got rid of his Outfit Anti Dimming just when he needed it.
These were used with the old WW2 GS respirator and the post war lightweight respirator which was phased out in the 60s. The S6 respirator issued in the mid 60s had a demisting feature where the air was drawn in over the eyepieces and anti dim was no longer required. All later respirators such as the s10 and GSR also have this feature.
@@simonh6371I was issued an S10 when I joined the RN in 1989 and I never saw this or even knew it existed. Is it possible that it was only issued to the army by that stage?
Note: Because there has been a lot of misunderstanding in regards to the Outfit Anti-Dimming and its intended purpose which, perhaps myself did not clearly state here is a brief but informative explanation on the Outfit Anti-Dimming and the intentions of its purpose as follows. The Outfit Anti-Dimming is a capsule like, tubular shaped container containing on one side Anti-Dimming paste and on the other, a rag or cotton cloth. Anti-Dimming Outfits were used to prevent condensation or fogging up on the Respirator eye-lenses, naturally as one would expect the eye-lenses would fog up after time, due to the result of the wearer breathing through the Respirator and their breath being warm and full of moisture content ; thus the Outfit Anti-Dimming prevents this as such. The Outfit Anti-Dimming paste would be applied prior to the instructions on the container, the purpose is for the moisture to form not a mist but rather a clear film which does then not interfere with such vision. Hopefully now you should have a clear understanding on what the Outfit Anti-Dimming is and its purpose. Kind Regards, TM.

But those were still issued with my S10 in the late 80s and early 90s.

Hi, might have heard of the MK.3 Anti-Dimming Outfit, not sure. Anti-Dimming Outfits aren’t my strong point, they’re just nice to have.
