Finally found a natural channel for those of us with fine hair. I have 4a 3c fine density… beginning to believe we aren’t out here. Every natural I see has medium to thick hair
Funny enough, my hair does well with a silk press. It does not revert even in the highest humidity. I have very little shedding or breakage. The key for me is the deep conditioner. My only problem is that I feel bald.
Yes to all of this! The breakage for me comes if I don’t follow up that silk press style with a good deep conditioner and some TLC right after the style. I really wish there was a way to thicken up the look with fine hair but the only solution I’ve got so far is to do a light flat iron on a blow out - and no second or third passes of heat (which isn’t good for the health of the hair anyways).
I’m terrified of silk presses. Not only does it not last but I always got heat damage, even using a low setting. Haven’t used a flat iron in at least 3 years
@@FineNaturalHairROCKSYep, I tried 4-5 different salons, then tried to do it myself after that and still had the same outcome, I guess they’re just not for me😅
I feel like when my fine hair is short and natural it doesn’t look full, but once it goes past shoulder length my braidouts look fuller. I like my hair straight, I don’t do it too often but I’m considering becoming a heat trained natural for convenience.
@@FineNaturalHairROCKS I don’t mind doing it myself, I feel like salons are overpriced these days. But I’m going to get a trim after I take my braids out
I do love a good silk press but not that often. I've done two this year and they were at home so I didn't use a lot of heat and yes it puffed up but I when I had it professionally done it lasted about 3 weeks but I avoided humidity didn't take super hot showers and wore it wrapped if I was home. Now 2024 I've done a blow out every wash day this year now and my hair has less single strand knots , less breakage and more manageability. I will be going to a professional before the year is over to address these ends and I plan on getting a silk press but I live in Texas so humidity is inevitable.
Yes, blowouts have worked really well for me too. I've enjoyed a lot more success doing blowouts than I have doing silk presses. There's something that just seems to work better with the the blowout than with the silk press. Thanks for sharing your regimen with us though! It seems like it's working really well for you!! 🙌🏾
I have fine hair to and have grown to hate silk press 😂. First off I always get heat damage. Second, my hair is fine so it appears thinner than it already is 😒. If I want my hair straight I’ll just put on a wig and call it a day 😂.
i stop after the blow out but i use a round brush to curl my ends, pin curl at night to reset for the next day. frizz doesn't look as bad with curly hair and it makes my hair look fuller so i avoid flat ironing it. also, if your hair is frizzy and have not tried Paul Mitchell's skinny serum, you are missing out.
I've never had a silk press, only blown out my hair, but I do know what my hair would look like in a silk press because I've had relaxer before. Relaxers and Silk Presses are very different, however, they sort of mimic each other: straight, flat hair. And i DO NOT look good with straight flat hair. I look much better with my hair blown out. The only time I would want to get a silk press is for a trim. But even then, I just trim my hair blown out instead.
Yeah, I'm starting to notice that it's rare for someone with fine natural hair to love silk presses. They just don't seem to work all that well on fine strands. Thanks for sharing!! 😄🙌🏾
I get the Botox treatment on my hair and now my silk presses last and work well for me despite have fine and somewhat low density hair. I wouldn't have maintained this without the Botox service.
Oh wow, I've never heard of Botox treatment for hair before. It sounds like it is working out really well for you. I'll have to look into it further. Thanks for sharing! 🙌🏾
@@FineNaturalHairROCKS Wash N Go's, pulled back into a bun, or a twist out. In that order. Aside from the budgetary constraints I workout at least 5 days a week and sweat profusely. That is not conducive to maintaining a silk press or flat ironed hair.
Silk press on my fine hair only looks good on day 1. Then it looks flat and greasy. And yes - it ALWAYS leads to more thinning and breakage if more than 1 time per year
I feel the same my hair is not necessarily fine hair but it’s not really thick either. I only do silk press once a year for Christmas and it only last 2 weeks. Maybe because I do it myself it might be time to check out a hair stylist then again I don’t like to put silk press in my hair.
Yes to everything you mentioned. I always feel like my textured fine hair looks much nicer styled than when it is fully pressed. Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us! 💛
I have 4b 4c natural hair and although I can maintain my hair better when its straight, it just looks blah. Long, but flat to my head, one layer. It took me some time get used to my voluminous hair in its natural or simply blow dried state, but now I love it better! And its the reason I decided to stop relaxing my hair in the first place. However, the twists outs, braids and manipulation of my natural hair without at least being blow dried first causes more breakage than anything. And I just cant bring myself to purchase the pricy rev air. Ive been close, but chicken out at check out! 😂
Hey Camille! Thanks so much for sharing your journey and experience here on Fine Natural Hair ROCKS! Like yourself, I also love the look of my hair when it's in its most voluminous state which is usually blown out. I also suffer from tangles and breakage whenever I let my hair stay tightly curly or in a braid out/twist out on shrunken strands. This is the reason why the RevAIR has been so helpful to my journey because it straightens the hair and creates a perfect style to just wear as-is, or even a lovely base for braid outs and twistouts. Honestly, I know the price is super steep but for me, it paid for itself 100x over because it cuts down on my need to go to the salon and on my breakage/tangling from wearing my hair in a shrunken state. @@FineNaturalHairROCKS thank you for your response! How would you compare the Rev Air to using a regular blow dryer on a low setting in terms of breakage or hair health overall? Ive seen reviews all over but your content seems very genuine so Im interested in your opinion on this. Keep doing what your are doing. Your hair is always beautiful regardless of how you wear it and I appreciate your content.
Absolutely. Silk presses are definitely dangerous for length retention when they’re done incorrectly. It’s the reason why I always get mine done at the salon- and very rarely at that.
Now my fine hair may puff up after a silk press or will get super oily after a few days. I don’t do pressings often mainly if I’m getting a trim. But I will say when my hair is stretched out it’s less breakage because there are no tangles.
Yes, I’ve had this experience as well. I do find my hair tends to be drier on the next few wash days though which can lead to breakage if left unchecked. A good deep conditioning treatment usually balances things out though. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! 💛🙌🏾
Hey there! I get your request completely however I don’t actually straighten my hair myself, and unfortunately, I did not film that salon straightening and trimming session. I agree that it would be helpful to see the process so the next time I get my hair straightened and trimmed, I will record and share it right here on Fine Natural Hair ROCKS 💛
Curlfriend, do you silk press your fine natural hair? Let me know in the comments 👇🏾
Silk press makes my hair look too thin. I've done it once, never again.
I get that 10000% !

Thanks for doing this. So many people misunderstand and mistreat fine natural hair.

Hello Lavinia I have never had a silk press. I only had my hair blown dried. Thanks for the information.💜🌹
Oh wow - that's awesome! How often do you blow dry your hair?
I only do silk presses when I want to get my ends trim professionally by a stylist.
Yes! Same! and even lately, I've noticed that fine hair can still get a pretty good trim with just a good blowout. Thanks so much for sharing! 💛
Same. I prefer silk pressing for a good trim.
