I knew it! Definitely earning some Amazonian angelfish points for guessing correctly that you were preparing this tank setup for Altum angelfish, lol. Awesome looking fish though!
A highly informative vid by a good presenter & skilled aquarist. I am getting in new altums soon and will follow this acclimation process to the T. I am sorry we have to wait for the sequel.. Please me, Kham, how long have you owned these fish?
@@leahnichol6665 👍 if you search breeding Altum angels there are some videos of one of the pioneers of captive breeding in Europe with excellent footage of several sub species of Altums
i saw you have big tanks with egg grate separaters are these used for breeding pairs? if yes does the fry pass from 1 section to an other? also you use 1 filter and 1 heater with this big tank with separators??also if the pairs are seeing each other will still breed?? any help and tips?
@brianagius5937 I use egg create to divide pairs. They will see eachother and will motive eachother to breed. I usually pull the eggs into a separate tank to unsure success
I wonder why so very few people are breeding Altums, at least that I know of in the US. A few I know of are acclimating them to pH 7.4 or so. Angel S. and Son N are. I did not look into other F1 vendors as they had bad reviews. Probably it’s because Altums are fussy and not popular with hobbyists. Many pet shops don’t want sell high maintenance fish. Acclimation to tap pH may not be enough to make these fish more marketable.
First off, angelfish is already popular. It's usually the market that drives the breeder. I've kept and bred multiple cichlids before creating the Amazonian Angelfish brand, and angelfish is the most marketable for me. With that said, the market is usually people that are getting into the hobby or people that are getting into Angelfish, beginning with very little experience. Angelfish being composed of leopoldi, scalare, and altum, people would go for the easiest one to keep and the better looking of the two, scalare. Altums being a very delicate fish and difficult to breed, they work against the market. Buyers are being deterred away, and dominos the breeders unmotivating them to breed them. Breeding them in itself is a long and patient process. It requires a set breeding skill level, a level of patience, and a level of water parameters keeping. All of this has to be met in order to breed the altum, and that means most people are lost, and only a very very small amount of people can breed them, in your case, 3 people. Altum being equally, if not more delicate than discus, but not as colorful as discus, people gravitate towards discus. That's why we have so many different discus colors and so much effort in breeding them because they come with a big market. It's the market that drives the breeder, as I mentioned earlier. That's why all these years since the discovery of altums and discus, the discus have drastically evolved from wild morph colors compared to the altum being the same as just wild colors and no color morphs have been discovered or created because they are marketly out competed and effortly out breded. Altums are the king of angelfish, but sadly not the king of all fish. That crown goes to the discus.
I just discovered your channel and subscribed but it looks like it's been a long time since you've posted anything. I'm a new fish keeper. When you say that you are not going to keep fish or cull them what do you mean? I sure hope it doesn't mean that they are going to fish heaven. 😢
You did EVERYTHING Possible to ensure these lovely fish thrive. Good luck!
Thank you

You have some very nice blue angels. I wonder you have any large blue angels for sale.
I am going to Google Altum angel fish and see why they are so special. 🤔
Largest and most delicate of all angels also only started being bred in captivity recently
@@BadlydrawnBen And beautiful long streamers flowing from them. Very stunning fish! I get it now.

Where are the videos my guy
How are the altums doing? Hope they’re well!
They are doing fine atm. The littlest one did not make it though
What happened to rule #1 about needing a cycled tank?
You can throw that rule out the door if you do weekly water change. For these guys, I do every other day water change.
