- Parenting is a treacherous journey - don’t we all know this to be true! But the beautiful thing is, we don’t have to do it alone. We shouldn’t do it alone. Today I talk with Heather MacFadyen, the founder of a brand and podcast called Don’t Mom Alone, about the idea of community. It can be awkward to seek out and pray specifically for, but we’ll be better parents if we find like-minded people to walk through this with. And Heather says that of course, parents matter, but we’re not the end-all, be-all, and that’s both hard and incredibly freeing to realize. Don’t mom - parent, grandparent, aunt/uncle, etc. - alone, okay? Find your people!

Toni, thank you for your podcasts. I grew up in a generation, where I was a parent, having to hide all the family faults and put on a show for others. I had no one to turn to, no podcast, no really good books, only books on how to be the best Christian mom that God wants you to be, etc., not on how to fix the actual problem. And don't ask God for help, he has more important things and bigger issues than to deal with your family problems. This lifestyle backfired because my now adult kids, who have children of their own, are struggling with the way they parent their children. I keep reminding them, the way I did it, is not the way it's suppose to be done. I send these podcast and other very good, updated, real life reading material/books to my children, so they understand, the way I did it or the way it was taught to me how to parent, does not work for today's parents and families. Also trusting God, being obedient to God, having faith and hope in God, knowing God gives us His grace and putting God front and center in your life, spouse life, child(ren) life and parenting, makes it so much easier not to have the feeling of shame when you fail at something, because not all options work across the board, each family and individual is different and different approaches must take place and you eventually will find the option that works. It's not failure, it's finding a solution that best fits for a certain season. Changes are allowed to be made as long as they are centered around God. God is there to help and guide the parent(s).
“My presence is more valuable than God’s”…WHOA.🤯 I’m in tears bc that belief is not only so hard to let go of but also to accept that it’s one I’ve been living by. You try to hold on to the belief that God is sovereign but my family cannot thrive without me. One has to die. Let the Holy work begin in me! This episode is so powerful. Thank you for this conversation that was filled with salt and light!!
