because it's boring, repetitive and goes nowehere, lacks creativity and has terrible dialogue.
the characters learn a bunch of stuff yet they try nothing new: every day they wait fir the night and every night is the same as the last one which quickly grows old and boring to watch. All the kills look the same while the characters just wait to get killed and do none of the obvious things they should do like interrogate the woman that clearly knows stuff, search the cargo at day, set up some kind of a trap. or leave the boat and set it on fire in the daytime etc or just check the box that all but says "VAMPIRE IN HERE" on it. The reason they don't just blast the whole cargo open (desire for a bonus) is abandoned WAY too soon and thus makes the whole thing hilariously stupid instead of terrifyingly desparate.
the dialogue is often disconnected from the events taking place and referencing things the movie didn't show or let the audience connect to, or monologuing today's politics in moments when it's frankly hysterically funny to do so. The only GOOD line: "it's the devil, and we're all going with him" is immediately ruined by "to hell". Just in case we thought he meant the Mall; lucky they cleared that out for us.
The vampire and the ship are visually ok I guess, I can't be sure because the lighting of the movie is terrible. The acting is good but it can't make up for the terrible script that leaves the characters feel much more like the writers didn't know how to deal with them, rather than scared and disoriented as they should be. The geography is lost on me; the ship practically starts teleporting as soon as the writers realize they have no idea what to write next.
And finally, the ending is absolutely hilarious: I don't mind them going with a demonic version of Dracula, it's actually my favourite version of the vampire (big fan of Del Torro's The Strain), but trying to sell that THAT incarnation could just show up in a highly populated bar without everyone screaming "wtf is THAT???" is so hilarious. I mean, they could've easily handled it the way The Strain did, but they didn't.
What this SHOULD have been is a slow burn story in which the characters learn new things and desperately try different methods of survival each failing after the other until their inevitable demise at the end. Instead, it's a convenience fest of the same death scene over and over while making sure we remember Racism is Bad because that's what Dracula is all about (btw, The strain did THAT way better too).

I feel like it could’ve been a bit better with a few tweeks.
Specifically if they kept the dog running off at the end (even though we know the pet dog was killed) and also if they made Dracula at the end look very noble, just his cane and tapping at the end.

Makes me wonder if slavic people who the first people to come up with the vampire folklore mightve been an inspiration from cannibalistic individuals or cults. But other than that man we need more 30 days of nights type . I reckon we only got a few films depicting them as a force of nature , the monsters and not some playboy sexfiend 😂 we got plenty of those already. Glad this film was made even though the returns are not big 😢

Mmm, the idea of Dracula being a savage killing machine...that's never who the character was really. I mean, certainly the look of the creature in this would suggest that it was going to be that, but in a way the whole point of Dracula was that he was a more controlled creature, I think. Just as evil and murderous but with less gore. I think it may have been a slight design mistake to make the monster so vicious looking in a way, because one expects a creature like that to be just fuckin rabid, tearing people to shreds and stuff. Maybe a different creature design would have been more in keeping with the style of the original story, or maybe its the juxtaposition that they were going for - it looks like a madman but it is actually a less gory killer. I havent seen it, but I'm gonna be doing a trailer reaction later today probably, so I'll see what I think when I see that. Cool review. :o)

Honestly, to me, this movie definitely felt that it had lower budget. Not nearly enough shots of the ocean, the landscape, and beautiful vistas are used. And in certain scenes, it straight up looks like there is a green screen behind the ship, which is a huge immersion-breaker for me.

I think I would give the movie the same rating having just come out of it barely an hour ago. But I think it was decent enough because I think they were trying to go for something different with him being more gruesome paired with the psychological part of it because you don't necessarily see him much or for very long. So when seeing the gradual bloodshed and then FINALLY seeing him for brief glimpses adds to the horror of it all. I do agree though that it was drawn out for time for no reason. They didn't need to make it two hours long. An hour and a half or an hour and forty minutes would have been plenty.

Anyone knows what was the story with the dirt in the crates? Does Dracula need it in his new home?
Other than that I totally agree that it was an interesting take...Dracula on a ship, but at the same time, I would have wanted more gore or some manipulation or some story/dialogues with Dracula. It was repetitive as hell and I just think it´s a shame that the director/writer didn´t explore it enough.
