Heroes one and all! That tale of the Anzacs arriving at Singapore in time for the shameful surrender by our British generals always sickens me and as the grandson of a casualty on board the HMS Celendine 1944 I don't speak flippantly. God bless Australia and New Zealand. 🇬🇧☘️🙏
Whew! The music is so intrusive it is difficult to follow the narration! Most likely that was the style back then. Lots of great information in this video. Best of luck!

Hi, I used to have a few good friends who were ex Shroppy boys. Roy Purdon was a PO Blacksmith in CANBERRA and one of the last off Canberra before she was sunk. (he used to brag that he even managed to get his toolbox off!) He then posted to Williamstown Dockyard and was only there a few months when they posted him to pick up Shroppy. As he said to me 'his name was still wet on the books'. There were others who should have gone before Roy but since he was the only PO Blacksmith with 'Cruiser' experience off he went! The story of how they eventually got to England to pick her up is epic. My very good mate Oscar 'Ocker' Collins was a LSPT in Shropshire and always talked about his time in Shroppy during the war. The Annual HMAS Shropshire Ball used to be one of the gala Social Events of the year. Cheers mate, Lest We Forget.
Both great grandparents were in the navy , great-grandmother navy nurse, and great grandpa on the navy ships, family has a glass plaque looking disc with hmas westralia navy logo could of been one of the ships grandpa was on.
Then you would be well pleased they have found her final resting place yes? My old man was a paramedic in the Royal Navy for 21 years, served with 40 Commando Royal Marines in Malaya.
My dad was in the navy in the `50`s with National service. Thanks mate
Respect
Thanks for this. I am currently building a model RAN destroyer for my old man who served in the navy during and following WWII. This is a great help.
would it be a RAN version of the Royal-Navy's 16 Tribal-class fleet-destroyer?
This was the R.A.N. component of "Australians At War" , which had a good Army and RAAF doco as well.
Really? wow-ee When who was being filmed in what year which who was created?
@@jonathanstrong4812 Huh?
@@KG84CIt looks like he's asking for more details on the documentary you speak of..
